Freddie Jackson began his career as lead vocalist for R&B/Funk band Mystic Merlin who had some minor R&B hits in the early 80’s around the same time Luther Vandross sang lead on the hits “Searching” and “The Glow of Love” with Change.
Freddie Jackson had a few nice smooth hits. `80s R&B was very underrated...so many great songs & singers. Freddie sounded a lot different than Luther. Luther had a much deeper tone. This was a top song at the clubs when the slow jams came on. My memory of this song is dancing several times a night. No romance memories attached to it. But loved being spun around to this and dancing with a man who knew how to dance 💜

There was a time in the mid-late ‘80’s where Freddie Jackson was nearly as popular as Luther Vandross among R&B fans. The press portrayed them as rivals. Freddie stated in an interview that any rivalry was friendly as they were good friends and supported each other. He never achieved the crossover success as Luther.
