Same here. We retired to central France in 1996. The thing that really annoyed me was that we didn't have the right to a vote in the referendum. I've never been particularly politically minded, and rarely voted, as we were always in the type of constituency where it didn't matter a toss who you voted for, the same party always got back in! The one time it really mattered to me, I wasn't allowed to vote. I am very grateful to the French for their support in negotiating the minefield of bureaucracy, and getting our 'permis de sejour' sorted out with very little trouble. At our age, it wasn't even worth considering going for French nationality, as it can take ten years!!

In 2007 Irish national debt hit 124% and today it's at 47% and the majority of the people in the country did not even notice the impact on their wallet! How was it done? Well Ireland is a trading nation, it's been producing growing positive balances for trade for decades and so long as you are continually selling more than you are buying you will always work your way out of trouble. But the UK is not a trading nation in reality, it has neither the manufacturing capability nor market access. I don't know how they will fix this. Now I'm Irish by birth and Swiss by choice. So yes BREXIT is an issue for me as I have many cousins living there. And unfortunately because of a change in Irish law, parents born outside Ireland can no longer pass on their citizenship to their kids. So the next generation of the cousins are British only 😢

I know exactly the kind of comment you want to react to.
And I would agree to everything you have said in the video.
I have a few acquaintances in the UK myself, they voted for brexit (wtf -_-) , generational torry voters, they aint too politically savvy, if you know what i mean...
I was there in the UK in 2015, a year before the referendum, having tea in my mate's home, talking with his family, I tried asking a question about the brexit referendum and engage with them to see where they stood politically on the issue, as I did not know their political views at the time.
I asked what they thought about brexit, and the mother told me that it was "very unfortunate" and then proceeded to quickly change the topic by asking me how my trip was and then another question about how the weather was at the time..........................................................................................................
I later leaned that they all voted for brexit during the referendum.
I understand some people do not wish to discuss politics, especially not with an outsider in their home but nevertheless I was genuinely flabbergasted at their reaction, in my country talking about politics at the table is absolutely normal, politics is a public thing, it boggles my mind that people can be so dismissive and make up their mind on a issue so complex with such insane ramifications as brexit...
But then again they are avid readers of the daily telegraph and the daily mail and also voted for borris johnson in 2019 so i suppose they did me a favour that day, as our conversation would not have resulted in anything positive I suppose...
Im sorry that brexit ruined the lives of those who were against it, as much as I, an European, despise and reject the nasty and insulting rhetoric about the EU that come from most torry politicians (including the reform UK bandwagon), I also remember that there are good people from England like you.
Hopefully in the future, the UK will join the EU with the same duties and responsibilities as any other EU member would.

Whenever i see politicians getting real excited ( no matter if they are on the right, center or left) i tend to take notice and go on a research binge to see:
    1. what proposal they are excited about
    2. what is actually in that proposal
    3. what benefit ( yeah right) or negative impact this proposal has for the regular people, the average Joe and Jane Public
Usually point 3 is negative galore where its really bad news for everyone but wrapped into shiny Christmas paper to give the illusion that its "good for you" while in reality its not. Then using these questions and answers i try to wake up people.
I have a very close friend, whom i consider a brother from another mother, whose entire family ( including his mum and dad) were pro brexit and they were borderline mental about it. They blew up their relation why their son ( my friend) over something stupid like brexit despite him like me trying to convince that brexit would hurt every British person. As of a couple weeks ago his parents reached out to "mend the fences". People need to realize that its family first, politics last because we are all together on this spinning mudball of... insanity.
I know that putin instigated this brexit junk just as he is funding all these other "leave the EU" parties. Gov and politics rarely work as proscribed and there are a lot of issues no matter what gov you look at be it EU or non EU but all these "leave the EU"parties make it seem that if the EU is bad and everything else is good.
I love France, except for Paris ( but that is because i had to travel through it every single day for a couple years) and i have properties ( also renovated those, one of them my mom, dad and I renovated ourselves and turned it into a bed and breakfast with guided tours) southern france, as far south as Andorra/ Pyrenees.
    Great video as always sir.

The country has been bled dry for decades, with manufacturing fleeing and rising energy bills through Net Zero. Brexit result was a symptom of the people to blame the EU for their plight, without jobs, left behind and undercut by imported labour and trying to stop the economic wrecking ball, but continues unabated, because much of those policies are ardently supported by the UK political class.

Despite being British, neither me nor my family could vote as we’d been gone too long, and yet we were the first affected. Took French nationality, as did my siblings, so that protected us from the worst of it. But still. So shortsighted.

My brother set up his first business in 1971/2, it was very much a European based business , he later built up another one, both very, very successful. Time came to retire so he sold his businesses and then later came Brexit, which, a huge shock to me he voted for. After Brexit one business located to the Netherlands, the other to Dublin (now expanded to Spain and France) and my brother was devastated. I couldn't understand how someone so successful reached that mindset to vote leave and then be upset that his old businesses fled the UK. Now in his mid eighties, he said to me during a relatively recent phone call, that he couldn't understand his decisions either, I think he might have implied he fell for too many lies. I don't know though, it's never made sense to me.

In a earlier episode you talked about the debt and it has to get down to 60% of GDP. I asked an AI how long time it will take to get down to 60%. Here is AI's answer:
"The UK Parliament’s Economic Affairs Committee has suggested that a new fiscal framework is needed, with credible tax and spending plans covering five years. This indicates that even with a structured plan, reducing the debt to 60% of GDP would be a gradual process, potentially spanning over a decade or more."

Just shows how stupid AI can be!! 😂
Reduce debt from over 100 to 60% at a time when in reality the debt is still growing in just a decade??
That would mean redirecting money from everything else to debt reduction - in effect a reduction of 4% minimum fall of quality of live for a decade!
As the UK is one of the most unequal societies in the West, it would hit the lowest parts of the income range by far the most!
AI can be worse than natural stupidity!!

In January the debt ratio, meaning the real issue with the debt, that difference of what you produce and what you spend in debt, was 64 per cent in Germany and 92 or 94 per cent in the UK. I had 3 years of Economics and let me tell you, the UK has levels of a "second world" or "developing economies level", and it is being artificially supported by all those profiting on the disaster economy in the City, and even that is going away, then what?

@@verttikoo2052 "The shift of euro clearing from London to the Eurozone is a significant change with several potential impacts:
Financial Stability: Moving euro clearing to the Eurozone aims to enhance financial stability within the EU. By having euro-denominated transactions cleared within the Eurozone, EU regulators can better oversee and manage risks, especially during financial crises.
Market Fragmentation: Critics argue that this move could lead to market fragmentation, making trades less efficient and potentially increasing costs for European customers. A smaller pool of trading within the Eurozone might reduce competition and liquidity.
Strategic Autonomy: The EU sees this shift as a step towards greater strategic autonomy in financial services. By reducing reliance on London, the EU aims to strengthen its own financial infrastructure and reduce vulnerabilities.
Economic Impact: The transition could take several years and might initially disrupt the market. However, it could eventually lead to a more integrated and resilient European financial market.
Overall, while the move is intended to bolster the EU’s financial stability and autonomy, it also comes with challenges related to market efficiency and costs."
