    Hi Jim, nice to see you getting more enthused with Lrc. Some of the library tools that I use daily are so powerful that I'm sure many of your viewers would blown away if you could show them about collections, compare view, survey view, reference view and dual monitor potential to name a few.

      Thanks and yes there are a lot for sure, and admittedly I am trying to get more familiar with them all. I am pretty solid on the editing aspects but need some more time with the rest of it.

    G'day Jim - I remember when you were looking for "greener grass" in regard to editing software. I stuck with LR as it taken me so long to learn it! I also use Neo, ON1 PR 2024, Topaz Photo AI & Nik 6. So, LR is my launch pad to other software & then I might return to LR for final touches. Cheers, John.

      thanks much and yes LrC will be my launchpad as well, as I will continue to use Luminar and On1, etc just like you - thanks!

    I’ve come back to Lightroom in a big way also. It seemed like they started slipping after Apple discontinued Aperture. And I love the integration between the desktop and mobile versions of LR. Great video Jim, thanks for sharing.

    Jim, interesting to hear your "there and back again" story. My workflow has changed from LrC to Lr to ACR then Photoshop, and these days it's just mostly ACR + Photoshop. My cataloging days are pretty much over. All my photos are in various folders that I keep on an external drive. To open a photo I just go to the folder, find the image, double click, and it opens in ACR where my editing starts.

    Interesting and timely. I've literally just done the same, leaving Lightroom 4 some years ago and coming back to it just a few days ago. So I'm refining my round-tripping between camera, LR for iPad, LR for Mac, LRC for Mac, and the Photos app, and it's working great so far.

      Glad to hear it and yes Adobe has a really functional ecosystem of interconnected apps etc. Glad you are enjoying it.

    One of the features you have not mentioned is the use of Lightroom mobile. I shoot the majority of my photographs in Lightroom mobile when I use my iPhone for the casual images then when I get back, it is easy to do minor tweaks in the desktop version if I wish
    My workflow is reliant on a specific import I have created for many of my images then I do my basic edits, then I bring it into topaz, photo AI for reduction in noise or increase sharpness then I go back to Lightroom do the masking color correction and then I take it into Luminar for the final touches. I Luminar does an excellent job with our contrast tools and the occasional sky replacements. I will do that as well.

      Thanks and yes I have LR Mobile as well and have been playing with it a bit. I might delve into some videos on that at some point, we will see. Thanks!

    If not Luminar then I use Capture One Pro. I don't know why but it gives me much better image quality than Lightroom.

    A bit off the subject, but what happened to your use and endorsement of Mylio Photos?

    • @JimNix
      @JimNix  3 місяці тому

      Hi Barry and good question. Mylio is a great product, very interesting and useful, but I find that with my editing I am better off storing everything in LrC and using plugins like Luminar and On1. It just suits me better.

    • @BarryNeedle911

      @@JimNix Thank you. I've tried Mylio Photos+ cataloguing to handle my ~100,000 photos and videos ... most all shot using iPhones. What I've found is I really don't need Mylio's prodigious cataloguing capabilities ... it is quite a complex relational database product. Most all my photos and videos are in the iCloud Photos Library. I own Luminar Neo, ON1 Photo RAW, and the Affinity Suite. I've never subscribed the Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop (20 years ago I did own the apps ). After seeing your "return to Lightroom", I think I'm going to cancel Mylio Photos and do a yearly subscription to Lightroom. I think it'll suit me better as well.

    Hi Jim, thanks for the overview. I was a LR user, but walked away from Adobe circa 2013. My issue with Adobe was their software seemed to have tendrils that bogged my iMac (which had plenty of RAM and an adequate processor for the time). I felt the Adobe products excessively hogged computer resources. Since I've used Affinity Photo and On1 and have not had a similar experience. Question, has Adobe improved that component? Is it more computer resource friendly now and less intrusive? Just curious. Hope that made sense.

    If he's being totally honest the real reason is the cashcow of Luminar tutorials and On1 is starting to wear thin.
