I remember I had this dilemma too when I visted Turabdin (Mardin) on a trip in 2022, about how I would introduce myself when I interacted with the Syriacs there. Language can serve as an identity marker, as can history, geography, religion, community, and nomenclature. Individuals have the freedom to identify with various aspects of their heritage, such as the Assyrian Empire, Aramean polities, or Chaldea (history); the Aramaic language in general or specific dialects like Suryoyo, Surayt, Suret(h) (language); regions like Beth-Nahrin, Assyria, or Aram-Damascus (geography); religious affiliations like Syriac Orthodox, Chaldean Catholic, or East-Assyrian (religion); communities such as the Syriacs, Arameans, Assyrians, or Chaldeans (community); or specific nomenclature like Suryoyo, Suroyo/Suraya, Othuroyo, Oromoyo or Chaldoyo (nomenclature). Recognizing these identity markers as part of our identity is crucial to defining ourselves as a nation. This doesn't mean that we have to identify with all these markers on an individual level, but we should respect and accept each other's preferences. If we fail to do so, we risk undermining our hopes of becoming a cohesive nation. The current divisions are evidence of this challenge, highlighting the need for us to set aside our differences and work together to succeed as a unified nation and pass this nation on to future generations.

Ook al ben ik er niet mee eens, maar ik begrijp nu wel waar jullie vandaan komen, daarom respect voor de deze openbaring en uitleg.😊
Beschamend om te horen dat George Kiraz ons Aramese taal in het Engels Suryoyo noemt. Suryoyo is een inheemse en onvertaalde benaming in ons eigen taal. Wat zou jij van een Marokkaan denken als hij in het Nederlands zijn eigen taal onvertaald en Magreb noemt?
Shlomo holo Aziz, Neem het malfono George Kiraz niet kwalijk, we spraken namelijk af dat we als Suryoye onderling met elkaar in gesprek zouden gaan en dat onze doelgroep voornamelijk Syrisch-Orthodoxe jongeren zijn. We spreken dus in vriendschappelijke kring met elkaar. Zie dit gesprek alsjeblieft als een gesprek tussen Suryoye. Het woordje “shamosho” wat dienaar of diaken betekent hebben we bijvoorbeeld ook onvertaald gelaten. Er zit geen agenda achter. Natuurlijk weet malfono George dat onze taal de Syrisch-Aramese taal is, er is geen Syrioloog in de wereld die dat zou ontkennen. Tawdi voor je opmerking holo!
Grieken noemen zichzelf Hellenes. De Europese benaming "Griek" komt van een provincie in hun moederland en van een stam Graeci/Graecians. De Romeinen hebben hen deze naam geheven. Onze probleem komt van de Westerse benaming van ons volk. Die hebben alles uit elkaar gescheurd. Daarnaast is "Suryoye" recent ontstaan. Wij zijn Suroye. De "Assyriers" van de oosterse kerk noemen zichzelf Suraya. Wij zijn gewoon één volk, met meerdere kerken. Iedereen die deze eenheid niet met zich meedraagt doet ons meer kwaad dan goed
