    hoqw does the front wheel drive work since you have steering someone explain :P

    • @fupabox
      @fupabox 8 років тому +5

      the chain goes to the front sprocket (right side under steering head) from the engine..the front sprocket is attached to a universal joint on one end, and the drive sprocket for the front track on the other(left side ) the universal joint allows the one sprocket to remain in line with the engine while the drive is transferred to the left front no matter what angle the handlebars are turned

    If you used an overrunning clutch to the front driveline, it would steer a lot easier. Very cool project. Nice work!

    • @jeep2003
      @jeep2003  8 років тому +5

      That might be a future mod. I can use a bicycle ratchet in place of one of the sprockets.

    • @skwimjim
      @skwimjim 8 років тому +5

      Bike sprockets are typically splined on the inside and may be difficult to attach.
      Might be easier to get a properly sized sprocket that will go right onto your shaft like this one: www.daytonsuperiorproducts.com/one-way-sprocket-clutch.html

    I have to go up to my dad's camp to shovel off the roof and it is about a 30 km round trip or in miles would be about 25 miles A bit far to walk up but I want to try to build a Segway type transporter using the tracks you are using on the bike you got there in this video going to start working on it tomorrow I am using a eight horse power motor I will post it if I can get it to work. I will try to just use one track.

    you might want to get rid of the filter as if it gets moisture it will chook out the engine I bought a snow blower with a Honda engine one time and it ran good until it was a humid day and I noticed it ran bad after a while when I figured the filter was chocking it out I removed it and it ran well afterwards you will notice most snow blower engines don't run a filter as there is no dust in the winter if however you decide to run it in the summer I would put the filter back on. just some info to save you personal trouble.

    When I was a kid back in 72 or 73 my buddy and is father made a tracked rear wheel drive Rupp mini bike with a ski on the front. I thought it was pretty kool.
    Rupp also made a long seat two wheel drive quad. They also had a powered track pull along where you sat on your toboggan and pulled by the tracked tractor. Kinda kool.
    Your mini bike looks fun but everyone should have a helmet on.

    Find a front gear with one more tooth it`ll steer better most 4x4 vehicles have a faster front diff , like ford 3:54 3:55 front ,, Nice machine I Like the front drive .

    • @jeep2003
      @jeep2003  6 років тому +1

      Yes I should try that or lots of guys build them with a one way sprag clutch like the rokons have that would be ideal. It would be easy enough to use a bicycle sprag on one of the sprockets

    Here is a picute of it in action the DUG bike ua-cam.com/video/3XWobltmdys/v-deo.html There all a copy of the Rocon. The rocon has a disengage feature when you turn the front traction disengages i am not sure how it works but I was thinking that a person could put on a disk brake and when you would turn it would act in the same way! what is your thoughts on having a disengaging system? As I said before if your going slow no problem but if your moving if you turn the tire turns at a different speed and could throw you over.

    Must be a gas hog though. Also, did it cost anything, or made from scratch? Because i plan on making in the future a vehicle like a tank (military kind but for up to 4 humans like a normal car) and use it for either mud-bogging/mud runs or maybe get it manufactured or get a license and whatnot for it

  • @lonewolf2156
    @lonewolf2156 7 років тому

    nice.... clever set up for the front track, u should consider a gokart torque converter, may need to move a couple of things but will perform much better then a centrifugal clutch..... great takeoff torque and higher top speed, basically a CVT transmission were the centrifugal clutch was.

    & fits lots of tools on the motor. (I have that) That model is very usable for these applications. Martin Holmes

    Did you put something between engine and frame plate ? Something elastic ? Or mount it directly on the yellow plate ?

    • @jeep2003
      @jeep2003  4 роки тому +1

      Yes it is a steel spacer about 1" thick. Not elastic it is solid. I believe it came from an old snowblower

    • @jeep2003
      @jeep2003  5 років тому

      Thanks they are from a snowblower. There are many different types but these are the best with both side plates. People modify them a bit and replace the bushings with bearings. I havnt had a problem with that yet. They are getting hard to find and go for 3-400$ on ebay now. I know Ed Moore has a set he might part with but they will be heavy to ship

  • @sutluc1
    @sutluc1 7 років тому

    Hi, cool build. I have a question, in the first design of this bike it looked like you were using a hand operated clutch. Were you ever able to get that to work properly? I'm kicking a build around in my head and I'd like a hand operated slack belt clutch, but it looks like the throw on a handlebar lever is barely enough.

    • @jeep2003
      @jeep2003  7 років тому

      Yes it was a process getting it fine tuned. The throw was barely enough and I had to use a belt that wasnt too sticky. There wasnt much room to work with under there with the tensioner and all. But it did work. Though I had real low gearing. Im sure it would be even more touchy normal gearing that a regular minibike has because it would also need some amount of slip and V belts dont like to slip.

    • @sutluc1
      @sutluc1 7 років тому

      Thanks. I'm kicking around the idea of a fat tire bike, but basically a zero dollar build. So I have to use what I have and that happens to be a vertical 8hp Briggs and a peerless 700 trans. So the idea is to use the 700 (after race prep) as a right angle drive/multi-ratio jackshaft. I'll drive the input 1:1 to reduce the torque load it sees. I'll just have to see how it shapes up.
      Too many projects on the go.
