When you said “saving for a yard sale - hummm that’ll never happen,”. I laughed out loud… I just cleaned out a down stairs bedroom (that had been piled up w yard sale stuff for over 2 years..). All was donated to Mission Lexington. An organization that helps the needy. Win win! My room is a bedroom again and hopefully others can use the stuff! Thanks for all you share!

That is too funny- I know the “saving for a yard sale” all too well! Nice job donating everything! 😊

I’ve been boxing up things for my son for several years. My husband used to get Christmas gifts from clients, employees, etc. and often they were things that we already owned (example….steak knives, wine glasses, etc.) Instead of donating them I decided that one day my son would need these items for his own home. I didn’t start doing this until he was nearing adulthood as I wouldn’t want to keep in storage for decades. He will be out on his own soon as he’s newly married and by doing this we will have saved him a lot of money. When decluttering I always think that there will be people that will benefit a lot more from these items than I am. Why not bless others rather than keep items in storage that you no longer use.?

Such a good idea to save those items for your son!!!

My youngest will soon be moving out and I have passed on so many kitchen things to him that he will need to buy very little, if anything. Win/win for us!

Awesome! I'm going to do the same - so much better than having to buy new stuff!

You’re smart to do this while you’re still young. I wish I had started years ago.😩

It's such a process - I think it's going to take me years, all in!!

Even taking photos out of the frames if they're just sat in a box saves so much space and I can put little artwork or photos and gift them to friends in those frames I dont need anymore :)

UA-cam put an ad right when you opened that little door, like oh the suspense 😂. It really needed scary music lol. Just kidding, but it made me laugh.

9:00 I'm not sure if you caught the irony of your (dead) last question but I enjoyed the pun!

Ha, I didn't even catch that!

Interesting you should mention looking like you're in a hostage situation. Even though you were just referring to the lighting and the joke gave me a good laugh, that's how having too much clutter and being in the thick of the decluttering process can make you feel too!

Put those tea cups in your kitchen cabinet and use them. If they mean enough to put in a memory box, you should use and enjoy them.

I went through my memory box and asked myself "if i died tomorrow, would I want my kids to see/read this stuff?"... I then read my old diaries and letters and either thought "Why did I keep this?" Or "No way do I want them to see/read this!"... and binned 95% of these things.
Decluttering is always ongoing due to life changing and new stuff coming in.
I keep decluttered good kitchen stuff in boxes in attic for my oldest son who is 18 and will soon leave home. But I always ask him first.

So true about the diaries! I'm also trying to limit what comes into the house so I can declutter less but it's also hard with kids who like to bring stuff home and also holidays, etc.!

Burn those diaries and journals! 😂

My kids are in their 40's. Get rid of things and don't buy replacements. We moved to a smaller space. Tina, Al's wife
