- Camino Frances - Day 8
Ciruena - Belorado - 28.8km
Another great sleep and up early. Blisters addressed and on the road by 6:00am. What a great day for a walk. Flat terrain and the weather was perfect for waking - 26 degrees and cloud cover. A 13km hike to breakfast today - we certainly were looking forward to having breakky today.
Struggled with my blister today. Every time we stopped I’d hobble for the first 5 minutes until it gets used to walking again. At one stage I felt the blister pop - the relief was unbelievable. Let’s hope that this doesn’t bring on another problem like infection.
We passed through many reaped and ploughed fields today and sunflowers. These made us laugh as people had taken time to put faces on the sunflowers and we saw some of the biggest stacks of hay bales I’ve ever seen.
After a 8 hour day trekking we arrived at our Albergue A Santiago. We had a shower and even had the energy to have a walk into town. Belorado is a beautiful village. They had some lovely street art along some of the buildings and a nice park in the centre. It appears they are setting up for a festival. Not sure if it’s tonight. We are staying at the beginning of the town so this may be a good thing.
Back to our Albergue for a wonderful dinner. Just the two of us tonight. Even though the dining room was full of Pilgrims it appeared folks wanted their own company.
Tonight we are experiencing thunderstorms and rain. Not sure what the morning will bring, hopefully it’ll blow over before the morning.

Hi Jim & De, I'm so pleased that I found your videos, so very informative. You mention in this video about changing shoes, can you please elaborate on this? What shoes did you take? I am planning on wearing trail runners and take sandals to walk in if the need arises.
Midge Guidera
Thanks Midge
We both took trail runners and ordinary runners ( with a good sole)
We had planned to take sandals also but decided against it ( bad decision) as you will see in a later video .. day 16 I think..
Sound like you are doing all the right planning, we’re sure in that case that you will have a fabulous Camino
Buen Camino
Jim and De
Oh PS
W changed our shoes halfway through each day
Unfortunately we still got blisters so make sure you have a plan to deal with them and medication just in case
Buen Camino
Thank you so much for your daily videos. I am using them to walk a virtual Camino. I am hoping this year to actually be there and walk, but will have to see if things open up with Covid 19 restrictions. In the meantime, I am really enjoying your videos. You are a lovely couple. I only have one question--how did you take the areial video shots? I thought maybe you used a drone... but don't know...
Hi David
Glad you are getting something out of our video's. We hope you are able to walk in the near future and it is finally starting to look a bit more promising.
Yes we used a drone a Mavic Air . I love it , its small and the video quality is great. There are a number of restrictions regarding flying drones in Spain and the penalties are severe so when you walk your Camino if you are thinking of taking a drone make sure you research the Spanish fly rules
Buen Camino Jim and De
Well done, yet again! Your changing of footwear is not something we've seen but if you're prepared to carry the additional weight it would be a great idea.
Also, since I mentioned weight - how much did you have in your packs?
Hi Mac
Yes we changed socks and shoes about 4 hours into each days walk we were sure we could avoid blisters but we didn’t DE’s pack weighed 8.5kg and mine was 10.5kg
We packed ( we thought)relatively light but as the days passed we started to look for things to off load
