🌐 Buy a Reel from Moteck Machining and Cylinder Mowers

There are nice things in life and then there are the cutting reels from Moteck Machining and Cylinder Mowers.
In today's video we're back in the shed with Shane as he shows how he produces his MMCM cutting cylinders for the 14", 17" and 20" Scott Bonnar mowers.
Shane's reels are second to none. He manufacturers each one by hand using 1" CNC-machined stainless steel shafts, 4mm laser-cut disks, and matched blades.
Each blade is fit by hand and the reels are TIG-welded before being painted (optionally powder coated) and lathe-sharpened for a mirror finish.

Most reels on the market today are made in China and are reproductions of the original Scott Bonnar reel design. The Moteck reels are not only significantly better made, they're also competitively priced.

About me and this channel: I'm Michael, a homeowner and aspiring lawn addict. I make these videos to share as much as I can, as best I can, from my recent experience rebuilding two Scott Bonnar 45 mowers. Although I'm a passionate wood worker and ex-IT guy, I have zero mechanical training. I'm no expert on these subjects but I learn by sharing and it encourages me to grow a better lawn and build a better mower if I know you're watching!

In the 1980's and 90's I spent a lot of time in garages and shops. Mullets and pin-up girls were common. This guy is keeping it reel 🤣
Shane I love your work, you just can't beat Australian made products 👌
I'm a boilermaker pressure welder WTIA certified tig welder and everything you talk about is spot on.
I bought an 8 blade from Shane about a year ago. What a great piece of quality engineering. I couldn’t think of buying one anywhere else.
Excellent workmanship, I wish more were like him instead of slapping things together for a fast turnover. Top work Shane
Price is very justified after watching this video! 👍🏻
great to see the workmanship that goes into a quality product
What a craftsman. Such talent
Thank you Micheal. Great video buddy

Awesome vid & info 👏🏽👏🏽
So so good!
Craftsman 💪🏻
Always wondered how they were made, super interesting
Quality. Worth it!
100%
What's your view of hardening the reels?
Shane replies: "the blades are spring steel hardened to 44 Rockwell" (but wasn't sure if that's the question!)
Is there a web page to see if he makes /sells reels for mclane 20” 25” ?
Moteck.com.au but he's only doing Scott Bonnar reels
did it myself once ,when i got side tracked by a customer,, we are all not perfect
Do you know if Shane has made any reels for a diplomat? I know Shane has several Diplomats.
Not sure off the top of my head but I don't think so (I think he's only doing sides for the Diplomat?)
Correction--Shane says he is looking at Diplomat reels but hasn't yet had time to remove a sample from one of his eight Diplomats...
we were taught to never leave the key in the chuck
I spotted that too when I was editing the video. Definitely good advice for students but of course anyone have a moment of forgetfulness. I'll ask him about it 👍
