    Hi Philip. Firstly, thanks for going to the effort of posting the videos of the Cormorant. Have found them very helpful in gaining an overview of the use of the machine in conjunction with the Artisan software. A couple of questions. Am very interested in the Cormorant roaster after looking at roasters for some while and coming across it by accident. Like the idea of using the Artisan software with it as you are doing, but when looking at the software, see it doesn't list the Cormorant as a supported machine. Obviously the two can be used together, but am wondering if there is much configuring to do to enable them to work together.
    And the other thing.... as long as the thermometer being used can log two channels and connects to K-type probes, is there anything else that needs to be considered when purchasing? I see there can be quite a wide variation in price between different units.

      Hi Peter - thank you for your comment - really appreciate it. I don't know what level you're at with Artisan or indeed roasting - but am going to assume you're at the beginning - apologies - if I've got that wrong. Please also note that this was quite early on in my roasting path and that graph is by no means an ideal profile for roasting a Brazil. The Cormorant not existing in the drop down menu is not an issue because it doesn't have any built in PID's that you're trying to hook up to. Connection to the probes is done externally either via a meter like the Mastech in this video or using as system like Phidgets which I now use.
      I would suggest you look at the Phidgets VINT hub and TMP 1101 - which would allow you to connect up to 4 Thermocouples. If you do decide to order a Cormorant there is a user group on Facebook which has all the info on how to do this. Good luck with it all - I can't recommend the Cormorant highly enough - it really is a beautiful piece of kit.
      Thanks Philip

      @@beanobsessedroasters9073 Hi Philip. Yes, you are quite correct in your assumption that I am new to the roasting scene. Thanks for the replies. I can see there is going to be quite a learning curve, not only with the process of roasting, but with the technology involved.
      Have now placed an order with Johan so am looking forward to trawling the Facebook users site to help get up to speed with all things Cormorant :-) Cheers, Peter

    Hi Phil, I recent received my Cormorant roaster too, I was wondering if you have roasted any smaller batches and what experience you have if so?

      Matt Pitts Hi - smallest load I’ve done is 300g - bean probe is a bit unreliable below this - but will be experimenting over Christmas with smaller batches. Have you joined the Facebook group?

      Hi Tony - I absolutely love it. For the money you can't beat it - especially if you live in the UK.

    How does the CR600 compare to the Huky 500 T?

    • @beanobsessedroasters9073
      @beanobsessedroasters9073  3 роки тому

      Sorry Jake don’t own a Huky nor have I ever done. But the Cormorant has a larger capacity, built in burner - more elegant airflow and a smaller total foot print.

      @@beanobsessedroasters9073 There's indeed a 100g difference with the Huky but I don't think for sample roasters this is such an issue. I'm more picky on easy of use, build quality, roast quality, repeatability and longevity. Besides the Huky, I'm also intrigued by the Kaldi Fortis. It looks and feels a lot like the Huky but it has that 100g additional capacity, although a similar footprint.
      I'm not in a hurry choosing a new roaster but it sure ain't easy.

      @@Obshowersyndicate I got a CR600 in the meantime. From what I've read, you can probably roasts with similar results on both but I like the small footprint of the Cormorant, that it comes with all the bells and whistles included, ready to go when you unpack it. I've had to wait for 6-7 months for delivery but it was totally worth it. No regrets.
