  • Unboxing & Review: Samson MBA38 Boom Arm and Auphonix Aluminum Shock Mount.
I have been using my Yeti on the stand that it comes with for a few months. It works great but since it is on the table any slight bump gets picked up hard. I wanted to try a boom arm to prevent that AND to give me table space back for my laptop. Lets see how this goes.

Hey there! Any follow-up about this boom arm? Have you had any issues since then? Would be great to hear from you! Thanks!

I have had no problems at all yet. It is still as tight as it was. No problems with it being loose or anything like that. No change at all. I will say if someone bought this arm it would last a long time.

@@SteveSantoianni Thanks for the quick answer! I'll eventually need a boom arm like that soon, and this one caught my eye. It'll probably be the 28" though as the 38" is a bit too big for my setup!

It is super hard trying to move the swivel part by the clamp. I am not joking when I say this, I tried moving the boom arm forward and I noticed it was stuck. I was recording and put my phone down to move it with both hands and my desk literally broke where the clamp is. The boom arm didn't even flinch and this isn't one of those cardboard desks from idea. This is a very thick and expensive desk and it gave up before the boom arm did. That is actually really fucking impressive for a $50 boom arm, just socks I cannot even move it forward to actually use it so I have to sit forward and sort of stand up to speak into my mic defeating the whole purpose of why I even bought it. Does anyone know how to fix this?

yeah for sure. you really need to put some OOMPH into it to push the mic sometimes but you are right. for the price it is a great boom. I really love mine.

Having the same issue. How does one loosen the swivel part by the clamp? It's no good if it can't move.

@@authenticvisits So when you set it up you move the whole thing by just moving your microphone up, down, forward or toward yourself. It's hard to explain but you get use to it after 2 or so days.

Very useful. Was planning to buy this boom arm -- any update on alternatives? I'm curious... where did you buy the oversized wind sock?

Hey there. There are tons of alternatives but I have seen that Elgato makes one that is very popular. You could probably check their website. The windsock I purchase separately from Amazon as well. I just searched for blue yeti pop filter I think lol.

Do you know much room there is between the top and bottom of the clamp? My desk is pretty bang on 3" and it says it's 3" on amazon but also someone there said there was more room.

I would say it’s accurate. The clamp does open pretty wide. I’ll record a video measuring it

How's the stiffness when pulling the arm forward and backwards? That joint seems to be a typically stiff one in these arms.

When you pull the arm down and towards you, you can feel that it takes a little bit of effort and it is really secure. When you are done and you want to push the arm up and away it’s really easy to move.

I just got this arm, trying to find the best install orientation. Problem is my desk is too deep so the clamp doesn't fit. I was wondering if I could attach the flange to the wall, then the arm to the flange...

    • @SteveSantoianni
      @SteveSantoianni  2 роки тому +1

I think you should be able to do this because it comes with that little adapter that theoretically is to screw it onto a desk so you don’t need the clamp so you should be able to screw that into the wall. Is that what you mean?

    • @MelancholyMadoka

Yeah, that other mount. However, I decided against it because, while it does have a screw that allows you to tighten it, the arm is sat in place by gravity, so the one screw alone is insufficient for the weight of the arm, mic and any subsequent movement from adjusting. Still a helpful video!
