When you pulled the hood I was thinking WOW!It is definitely summer with all those bugs on the grill. First class is a beautiful classic working truck that stands out on the highway. All the flashy lights and chrome will not make an plain trruck beautiful.
A few years ago, on one my Harley trips to Montana from NJ, on the way back I stopped to see my other brother in Hinton. Left Sioux City, and was looking for a nice curvy road (Since Iowa is noted for roads that run north and south and east and west only), and saw Rte 141 - the only curvy road in western Iowa. So yes, at one time in 2003 I rode through Mapleton, Iowa! Green HD FXDXT with NJ tags.
Very, very enjoyable videos, one and all, and I greatly envy the sanctuary and escape the truck, open road, and no-rush/no-hurry attitude bring you. Getting into an auto and hitting the interstate, away from big cities of course, can be therapeutic and inspire me to contemplate my life and my relationship to the world at large. I appreciate your narrative and perspective on the reality of owning and operating a commercial vehicle and of course maintaining it. I also enjoy getting to know Opie and see how he can adjust to the rigors of riding/zonking out in the back of your cab. Getting on board with you through your video helps me decompress at the end of the day. Thank you, and continue to "be safe".
Hi Kurt I had no idea what was wrong. I've heard noises right on my firewall to find it wasn't the firewall at all . Sounds like they're coming from one place when they're actually nowhere near you thought. I'm glad it was only a Hood spring. I hope you and the warden and a children all enjoy your vacation. Safe travels take care cuz we care
I have taken the ferry at Kampsville IL (Illinois River) on the motorcycle a few times. Also one further north that crossed the Mississippi from Illinois to Missouri.
Every time I see you go in and out of the yard, I wonder where it is. Now I see a land mark. Miller Bros furniture. I know exactly where you are. I worked at the truckstop that was there in the mid 70's.
I spent a lot of time in Galena when I went to college in Platteville. Beautiful place. We've all played that noise game. If the dash doesn't light up like a Christmas tree, it's fine. Stay safe, and God bless.
In high school I had a 1983 Chevette that was just the opposite. The more dash lights that were on the better. It's when they started to turn off that worried me.
I always love to see a train in your videos. When I first moved to Iowa .. over 8 yrs ago... the thing that caught my attention immediately was TRAINS TRAINS and more trains. Now whenever I go back to my quiet country place in Texas for a few months I miss the trains so much. I never hear or see a train at my place. Trains got into my soul. Could never stay away from them now.
Yep knew the sound. Same happened to my truck replaced both and safety cables. The springs at Kenworth are not cheap 189 ea. you can get them cheaper through Michigan truck parts. I got both , plus shipping less than kw asking for one
I will be heading down to Prairie Du Chien in a couple of weeks. One day we will be riding down through Galena on our way to Savanna IL and then back up the Iowa/Wisc side back to Prairie Du Chien. Have been down that route several times. A great ride.
That’s pretty country around there. I used to work on the railroad line which parallels the river through those towns, and it was a nice ride. Being from New England, the Galena area was my getaway when I was homesick for some hills and trees instead of endless corn fields.
When I drove a school bus, I played that game. One time my bus wasn't able to go above 25 mph. I had to pull over at a students house and ask the mom to call the garage to bring me another bus. I had to drive another bus for a few weeks so they could repair the trasmission and a few other things they found.
I'll play the "What was the mystery noise" game... the "bang" was the spark plugs falling out. Check and see if they are still there, if not, call CAT and get replacements as soon as possible. I will admit my first guess was "The shocks gave out", but I mentioned that once a while back and then I got shadow-banned shortly thereafter. Thank you for your time.
We were in Galena early June, took off to the northeast and found a hard surface road thought I was going to New Diggings, ended up in Hazel Green, then to New Diggings, thought I was going to Elizebeth and ended up in Scales Mound, oh well they roads were great to ride
Kurt, from what I've heard, they're going to try to drive a few thousand more trucks off the road.😮 Where I am, the rates are holding. But my friends are doing local and heavy haul. Some scrap loads to the yard. That's about it.
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Have you ever thrown a hood spring before? That’s one unusual thing to break & very unusual sound as well when it does. Was that a little L8000 Ford outside the truck wash? Those were some sweet little trucks. A good ride. I’ve been to that town in Illinois. What a nice town & friendly to boot. 💥🥰✌️
I splurged on 2 under step mudflaps at Peterbilt,,put them on and within 2 weeks they started tearing apart they were garbage…waste of 70 dollars….THANKS PETERBILT
Some pretrip trucker you are 😂. You forgot to check the hood springs😂 tires make thumping noises, but did the hood springs make their twanging noises? During your DAILY pretrip??? Tsk tsk. At least it was a “cheap fix”. Which are by far the best fixes. Second only to no fixes (you are hearing things again)😂
Hello 👋 Hey Hi and Howdy Hero.. Waivin a 👋 Hand out here in Greeley Colorado. .. I'm thru Topeka Ks twice a week ... maybe one day we'll cross paths.. ( Side Note .A Close Friend of Mine is thru St Joe and across Rte 2 alot... drives for Pyle Transportation) actually I have 2 Friends @ Pyle , we're all from the Southeast Corner of The Volunteer State aka Gods Country . ) Where our Blood Runs Orange whether you like The Foosball or Can't Stand the Foosball lol lmao. . No football fan here. But I do Love to Hear When The Vols Are Doing Good....
You have a beautiful truck

Glad it was only an hood spring!!!!! Hopefully U purchased 2 of them Mr Kurt!!!! Better 2 replace BOTH & keep the old one for a spare
When you pulled the hood I was thinking WOW!It is definitely summer with all those bugs on the grill. First class is a beautiful classic working truck that stands out on the highway. All the flashy lights and chrome will not make an plain trruck beautiful.
First time you hear that spring go, scares the devil out of ya. Anymore it's "oh crap, now I have bend the pieces around each other to get by on."
"What's broke now"
The trucker. 😃
Last time i lost a hood spring it cracked the intercooler and i had ro do a JB Weld fix it in a church parking lot😊
Don't think you could have timed that better...when you ended with "Me and Bud are going fishing", you pulled in next to the BUD LIGHT truck. LOL 😊
Hood spring was gonna be my guess......and then when you had hard time opening hood, I was like, yep, hood spring......been there done that👍🏻
Hey Kurt….. ya caught a train , love you guys

If you had an emissions truck, you’d be so good at playing that game…you could get a jersey with your name on it

Glad it was just the spring Kurt! You might've heard it when it snapped back. Safe travels.
Kurt, the starboard steer tire is cupping a great deal
Your right it is!!!😮
I noticed that a few videos back. It's gnarly. I wouldn't let it go much longer. Figure out what's doing it because tires aren't cheap.
Nice trip on the Harley!!! Just some tire shine and polish the wheels you’ll be stylin driver😊
First Class is a good looking 🚛. She does what you asked as much as possible. Yeah the children are slowly leaving. Cherish them. Safe travels 🚛
I have taken the ferry at Kampsville IL (Illinois River) on the motorcycle a few times. Also one further north that crossed the Mississippi from Illinois to Missouri.
Free Iowa fertilizer at the truck wash.
Yes I guessed hood spring. I had one let go on my truck and it sounded like it was near the firewall also.
Good to see you and I hope you're all enjoying your holiday Kurt
Every time I see you go in and out of the yard, I wonder where it is. Now I see a land mark. Miller Bros furniture. I know exactly where you are. I worked at the truckstop that was there in the mid 70's.

Kurt, I said the same thing. I said “Ole Don, I’ll wager that was a durned ole wore out hood spring.” Yep, that’s what I says to myself.
You and BUD are gonna go fishing... I see whatcha did there 😂

Diesels don't have spark plugs.
Don’t buy the hood springs from Kenworth you can get 2 from Michigan truck spring for less than 100 dollars
Galina is awesome, use to go up there every year around super bowl and go snow skiing at Chestnut mountain resort
We were in Galena early June, took off to the northeast and found a hard surface road thought I was going to New Diggings, ended up in Hazel Green, then to New Diggings, thought I was going to Elizebeth and ended up in Scales Mound, oh well they roads were great to ride

That gas station makes me laugh at the name.
Keep on trucking!
You ever had a Gunder Burger while rolling through Eastern Iowa on the bike?
Your truck needs a Mager paint job curt
O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 Have you ever thrown a hood spring before? That’s one unusual thing to break & very unusual sound as well when it does. I think Hood Spring 😂🤣😂
Yeah sir that was the first thing I thought of hood spring cause it happened to me
You forgot too say Galena isn't fun to drive when you have to go to hospital there. Road can be a Hazzard going up or down😅😅
I honestly guessed hood spring told my wife what it was and she didn't believe me
I have been wondering for some time, when do you use the lights on the mirror frame that are covered with a white clamp on cover? Demo perhaps?
Mite want to pick up A couple of hood springs.🙂
That baby needs some grill bars
Hood spring was my guess. 😂
👍
Hi Kurt Matt from South Alabama ! You got a nice Harley what year model is it ? I know it 17 or above.
🍭SWEET🍭Did you buy that KW sign?🙏🏼💖👍🏻🌞
Opie knew what it was nice 😂
Sucks if you pay a monthly payment on a truck not worth it unless it makes you money in a job or business
Sorry Kurt. Next oil dump..have the pan dropped and roll in a ser of main and rod bearings. Cheapest insurance ever. SAVE THE BIG CAT
Best channel on the tube
Did you fix those hood springs?
