Doug, this is such a heartfelt and deeply personal rendition of "Brooklyn Roads" that must have shaken Neil's inner core to sing and actually return to those days of bittersweet memories. Your portrayal with family photos are amazing. Thank you for elevating it to this level of perfection.
Thanks very much for your kind comments Donita, much appreciated. Hope you are well. Sorely missed your comments on my previous video, 'Suzanne'. So glad you love it. This video truly was time-consuming. The entire process took in excess of 70 hours, from searching, downloading the images then working on them to in an effort to remove the blurriness of the old low resolution images, failing in some. Then of course doing genealogical research on the Diamond family and finally creating the family tree. I'm reasonably happy with the video; a big improvement on the one it replaced (done 9 years ago). Best wishes always, Doug
A special time in our history that encompasses the journey of so many immigrants including my grandparents from Italy and Canada that this song holds an impact on my life as well. Between Neil's life, his lyrics and music combined with your visuals makes this special. The clarity is stellar and the time you devoted to it is remarkable. Neil should be so proud and honored.
Thanks for your comments Donita. Here's a titbit for you. Neil has a speckle of Italian blood. 😊He mentioned that in a live show. When he did so, he was asked by a member of the audience if that meant that he would consider doing a couple of songs in Italian. 😊
Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated. I was spurred on recently when a viewer commented on the previous version (9 years ago). I replied to his comment and also commented that I would be working on an updated version as I found the previous version woefully unsatisfactory and lacking in a whole host of information and that I have gleaned in the ensuing 9 years. Not to mention the lack of skill back then... baby steps.
Neil and Katie are aware on my channel. Not only did Katie assist me in having the worldwide ban on my video 'The African Trilogy' lifted, but also when May Gómez De Paz (Madrid) attended Neil's 50th Anniversary Concert at the 02 Arena (2017) in London. 🍑A few weeks ago, I was reminded that anyone who knows the music of Neil Diamond will surely know the man. Well, that's true. Of course, one could study a biography or autobiography first and then listen to all the songs....would you learn more? No. Neil Diamond tells his own life's journey best when he sings.
"Brooklyn Roads " is one of his most popular songs because of that very aspect. Neil wants us to know him! And this song was special to him, as he stated once; he had freedom to write without concern about "charts", or rankings when he joined MCA Records in 1968. He had a story to tell.
When I was at the Atlanta and Las Vegas concerts in 1976, I recall many fans shouting for "Brooklyn Roads "....he didn't sing it then. I don't know why.
This video. Oh my goodness! In my opinion, Doug has outdone himself. This video should be a documentary on TV or Streaming Services. It is simply awesome. He shows us all we need to see and hear about who Neil Diamond is! Period!
I took Neil's music off simmer a few weeks ago to reacquaint myself with this extraordinary man. Doug has covered that perfectly with "Brooklyn Roads ". Well done, Doug!🍑

TV talk show host Phil Donahue once referred to Neil as the poet of our times and that his music was the tracks of our lives. A storyteller, each and every one of his albums are a leaf, a page of his life at any given time; a direct reflection of his life at that moment in time.

Downloading relevant images, attempting to "unblur" them, succeeding in some but failing in others which beyond redemption. Doug, this is a dear video regaling the young life of Neil Diamond, and I view it as one of several lessons that I am due in order to reacquaint myself with the man and his music. I will be reading more about Neil's life in connection to various songs. So much time lapsed between 1976 and 2022-23. Time to catch up.

If you expanded this video , say to 30 minutes, it could easily be a worthy documentary on ND's roots. Deep and strong roots in fact. You have the "video artist" gift of image editing, special effects, and high quality sound editing. In other words, Doug, you can make a movie 😊☺️

Thanks for your comments Louise. Time to catch up indeed. As for expanding the video to 30 minutes, an impossible task as the song is only 6 minutes and 2 seconds in length. In addition, with the pressures and constraints of modern living, where people are time-poor, the idea of seeking to keep viewers on a video for the entire duration of 30 minutes an impossibility.
My pleasure. As for your questions as to why Neil would include or omit any song, is entirely up to him. He makes every attempt to target his songs at his audience. 'Brooklyn Roads' a must in New York. Not so in Las Vegas or California. Omitted from his Setlist in Hot August Night (1972) , Hot August Night ll (1986) and Hot August Night lll (2012) or for that matter his Thank You Australia Concert. Understandable.

No problem. Thanks for answering. Today I am 65 years old, I mention it to give context. My father was a fan of classical music. I suppose that the structure of classical music influenced my taste for progressive rock and progressive metal made, a band from your beautiful country that I really like, Caligulas' Horse. Among my teenage friends at that time, Neil Diamond was too pop. In private or alone in my room I listen to Neil's music. And, with great pleasure I tell you, I still love Neil Diamond music. At the time the movie came out and the Livinston soundtrack, I was going through very difficult times, you know, teenager, I just found out that I was adopted, mistreated, humiliated, I guess I was a problematic young man. I watch "Livinstong" seven times. And I remember thinking, either you follow another path or I end up dead or in prison. And, luckily for me, I joined the Marines Corpse. This truly was. the entire process took in excess of 70 hours, from searching, downloading the images then working on them to in an effort to remove the blurriness of the old low resolution images, failing in some. 😔 Then of course doing genealogical research on the Diamond family and finally creating the family tree. I'm reasonably happy with the video; a big improvement on the one it replaced (done 9 years ago).

This song always makes me cry. Neil had a beautiful grandmother and mother, and his dad was quite debonaire and a real character with that twinkle in his eye. Doug!!!!!!! OMG, I was worried something had happened to you because I haven't had a new video in my email for a LONG time!!! At least it has felt that way. I always get excited when I see a new one, and I LOVE this one so much. ND the storyteller, it's no wonder he has been one of the best songwriters of my generation as well as the generation before me. I don't know how the generations after mine have felt about his music, but I would hate it if I would have never discovered him.

You people lived through two horrific forms of dictatorship. First, the murderous Nazi then under the poverty stricken, dictatorship Communism. Regardless of your politics, I held/hold great respect and admiration for Angela Merkel PhD (who hailed from East Germany). A woman of courage and intelligence who was Chancellor of Germany of a unified Germany for 16 years! Amazing woman. One of the very few world leaders who put Donald Trump in his place and make him look like the fool he truly is.
So glad that you now enjoy a good life with your children and grandchildren. And having a son who is now an emergency doctor of medicine, wonderful.
