- The 80s cartoon ‘ThunderCats’ has been monumental for those growing up during that era. So monumental that today you have notable musicians who sport ‘Thundercat’ as their stage name. Watching Lion-O’s bravery and resolve triumph against the evil and greedy Mumm-Ra has acted as a great influence for children, teaching life lessons where one learns to prioritize good over evil and learn the power of friendship.
This group of interstellar cat-like humanoid aliens created by Tobin ‘Ted’ Wolf found a new home on Third Earth, after the destruction of their home planet Thundera. During their time on Third Earth, they fought off the Evil Mumm-Ra and his Mutants and Lunataks, preventing the Ancient Spirits of Evil and Mumm-Ra from ruling over the planet. Lion-O’s Sword of Omens was a weapon of great inconvenience to villains, enraging them more and more. And because Mumm-Ra grew more desperate, we, the viewers, got to see stellar episodes with bigger threats, as Mumm-Ra grew mad trying to destroy the ThunderCats.
The theme song is a memorable tune from the 80s, the animation and fights were amazing as well, considering the fact that they used technology from 40 years ago. Things like these make one feel kinda old to be honest, but some good ‘ole nostalgia’ goes a long way as this video is dedicated to recapitulating the events that took place in some very interesting episodes of the ThunderCats. - Розваги
I still love the original Thundercats series.

THUNDERCATS HO
Who doesn’t?
Me too, and I was already pushing 30 when it first came out in 1985. 😁
I'm slightly disappointed this video didn't include the two episodes i wrote, "Shadowmaster" and "Well of Doubt". Some critics thought their storylines were quite mature. At least this video included secondary characters, like Jagara, Screwloose, Two-Time, the Jade Dragon, and props I designed. for the last 30 episodes. Nice work. Thanks for keeping Thundercat spirit alive.
Bro, this comment just gained u a new sub. If u scroll up you will understand why! Thanks for everything!
Here is a question Ive had kicking around for a long time. In the beginning of Thundercats, the journey from Thundara to 3rd Earth, kid me always thought that journey took hundreds or thousands of years at sub light speeds. I thought Jaga just lived a really long time and we saw him die along the way. And then finally they reach 3rd Earth. And the Mutants show up like no time has passed. That always confused me and I figured they too used cryo sleep. But, then later, we meet other survivors or characters from the galaxy that are still around. Snarfer, and other Thundercats even. It always felt (to me at least) like later on the writers forgot how much time had passed in the pilot just getting to 3rd Earth. My question is, did you guys always have that in mind? The time frames? Or was that kind of just not thought about while trying to just get the scripts written? Or, did they travel to 3rd Earth at FTL? And the passage of time was only a few years? And we see Jaga die within those few years? I dont know if this makes any sense or not, but I figured I saw you are an original writer on the show, so when else would I ever get a better chance to ask this question?
You were a writer on the series. Awesome stuff. I was 10 years old when the series aired and remembered the first episode. For time I saw a naked woman animated on syndicated TV. I thought man am I old enough to see this?LOL. This was the only time we saw Cheetara in the buff.

Dude, it really SUCKS that it's been 10 months and you haven't got a response!!
I hope that Dude-Face notices your comment, is moved to answer it and is able to provide relevant information.
i love your ❤videos .
Finally something good to look forward to after a rough start to my day 🙂
They Had Life Lessons On These Shows
A mature episode is where Mumm-Ra gets Tigra addicted to a plant based drug and uses this to get Tigra to betray the other Thundercats. Tigra eventually breaks his addition and helps stop Mumm-Ra.
Bruh. I became an alcoholic. Now I know why!
They put work in the Thunder Cats storyline.
Absolutely
Okay! I was hooked!
Absoposilutely
this is not a fictional story...
The ghost warrior introducing grun the destroyer as a thundercat gone bad was a great episode. He was like general zod in superman
Well done! Just reminds me why I loved this series so much. It is past time we got an HD remaster of the series on Blu-ray.
Did anyone catch that part about the mutants getting into the ship’s sword chamber for their leader Mumm-Ra. Fans know the mutants and Mumm-Ra hadn’t met yet.
What was so great about Thundercats was that it perfectly encapsulated the sword-and-sorcery/sword-and-planets genres. The premise of a handful of refugees from a doomed planet facing off against the Devil-Priest Mumm-Ra, himself a last survivor of sorts from the ancient (Third) Earth and a slave to his dark gods, was fantastically epic.
And the Gentleman who voiced over Panthro played Bill Cosby's Father on The Cosby Show
Facts most folks don't know that 💯
Let me tell you ThunderCats and He-Man and Masters of the Universe are my all-time favorite cartoons from the 80s it was great to be a kid during that time and those episodes you showed of the ThunderCats those were pretty phenomenal episodes I remember them all really brings back memories thanks guys.
It was great being a parent watching them along side the kid's....🗣HO❗
Don't forget Voltron!! Or G.I. Joe or M.A.S.K. or Silverhawks...or.....lol
And here’s the thing, those cartoons were not on for very long. But the cultural impact both had has outlast in their runs as a cartoon show!
Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors is good. But got a limited release. Han Solo, Skywalker, Obi, c3po and the princess are present.
Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors is good. But got a limited release. Han Solo, Skywalker, Obi, c3po and the princess are present.
I believe when Slyth and Jackle-man go to the room with the Sword of omens, they want it for themselves. This is because at this point they hadn't met Mum-Ra yet. 😊
“You will not have it as long as I live!”
“They would suit me just fine.”
I am pleased to see someone caught that.
I always wondered how the hell the inhabitants of 3rd earth managed to get by with Mum-Rah living there before the Thundercats arrived.
@@UrielManX7 Mumm-Ra was dormant for some time sleeping in his crypt within the Black Pyramid. It was the crash landing and skirmish with the Mutants that woke the devil priest up. He had persecuted the races here further back in time on Third Earth but something happened in between that put him in the tomb for some time. He had battled other beings Wiz-Ra and Zaxx rival entities wielding powerful magic near his level. And his necrotic muscular powerhouse mummy form eventually fades and he weakens in his gaunt tattered form.
The episode the Last Day was in my opinion badass. Stakes were definitely raised.
thundercats to me bring back so much childhood nostalgia one of my many favourite animated shows to watch as a child
in the pilot episode the main reason jaga had to pilto the ship it´s because the autopilot was damaged, they could have end up lost in space, so jaga volunteered to pilot the ship manually as far as he could so they could make it to the third planet, that and the fact that he was already too old to live throught the entire voyage, it was their only hope
I didn't see the later episodes, and it's been a long time since I watched the series (in the 80's), but two episodes that I remember were one with Excalibur, and another where Lion-O had some sort of right-of-passage where he had to defeat his trainers and Mumm-Ra, without aid or weapons.
As always thank you so very much for the videos.
I remember the rites of passage episodes, I hated them, it made all the other cats pointless.
The 5 part lionos anointnent mini series
I remember being terrified by parts of that rite-of passage episode, and also distinctly remember the episode when Lion-O, Wiley Kit, and Wiley Kat found some abandoned tower in the forest that was full of booby traps, and they all got split up or something
@@Halbared It's obvious you didn't understand point of the rite passage episodes it was test if Lion-O worthy of that title Lord Of Thundercats. It didn't make the other cats look pointless they were giving him a challenge, so he used those skills have taught him so he not only a better leader but also a better warrior as well. The other cats would be pointless if they just gave everything to Lion-O & not train him or teach him how to be humble, a respectable leader & the value of teamwork.
I seriously doubt whoever wrote this ever actually watched the show. 3 minutes in and there's already a MASSIVE mistake. The Mutants were not trying to possess the Sword of Omens for Mum-Ra in the pilot. They never even heard of him until the next episode.
Yeah exactly.
This video is something i needed in my life i loved this show when i was a kid
I’m in my 40’s and my kids are 4 & 2 . They know the theme tune by heart and play thunder cats together together all the time hahaha
Man I absolutely loves the chemistry between Lion-O & Cheetara I remember they used to show some affection between two of them for eachother, hell there is also a scene where at the end of one episode they have shown a friend robot of thundercats pushes Lion-O towards Cheetara and both of them look at eachother and blush!
When I was twelve this cartoon made my life about bareable.... Love these cartoons
In the Heman/Thundercats Crossover, when Liono was about to go through the mirror inside The Castle Of Grayskull to save his father in the past, Heman reassured The Lord Of The Thundercats that his true destiny lies in the future and not the past and going back to save his dad would change everything which Liono agrees. Words of wisdom from the hero of Eternia.
Actually in the regular series Lion-O is sent back in time to discover how to defeat a mutant super weapon in the present.
Thundercats are epic
I am 52 years old I have been a cartoon/anime junkie most of my life. I collect anime / cartoon DVDs. I have titles from the 1940s 1960s 1970s 1980s 1990s 2000s 2010s and 2020s. A lot of the videos you do about retro titles I have quite a few of them in my collection, but if I don't I'm on the hunt for them anyway.
The episode where they first met the Berserkers was good too. When the Thundercats sank their ship the Berserkers actually drowned! Unusual for them to kill an enemy.
I don't remember half of those. I had recorded a bunch of them on vhs tapes when I was very very young with the help of my dad, and I'm sure I saw a ton of the last two seasons, but the first two seasons are the ones we had recorded and that I watched over and over again with my younger brother.
Missing in pop culture stories, movies, series, cartoons where there is a combination of Fantasy and SF
I wouldn’t call any of these episodes dark. Title feels more clickbaity than anything else
Your whole planet is destroyed and you don't consider that dark?
@@Joobkl That is dark, but most of the episodes listed aren’t. I should know, I watched the whole series
The inclusion of Snarf aside, Thundercats had one of the best cartoon intros. Hope you can do videos as well on Centurions and Pole Position.
What's wrong with Snarf??
If anyone has watched the Rankin Bass Hobbit and Return of the King anime-esque films, you'll notice that the orcs and Gollum (who for some reason looks like a huge toad) make facial expressions that are very similar to those of the Thundercats green lizard mutants. It would be interesting to see if the projects shared any character designers or perhaps at least members of the same Japanese animation teams. My Lord, my forty two year old self just sat here at midnight on a Saturday night typing that...a a statement about Japanese animated kids shows. If I needed a reminder
why I have no love live, well, there it is. One at a time, ladies, please, there's only one of me....
All there years I thought the episode with Mumm-Ra getting maximum power from the Ancient Spirits of Evil was the last episode. I had no idea there was a whole other season after that. Then again, I was 6 or 7 when I was watching it, so I won't beat myself up too much.
One correction, the mutants didn’t know who Mum-Ra was until they got to 3rd Earth.
Season 1 Episode 1.... is clearly the best Episode.
Some dark episodes moments i recall: 1.the episode where willykit and willykat eat Poison berries
2. Mumm ra tries to stop the berbills from getting food to the thundercats by attacking thier food supply and starving them.
3. In one episode cheetara has a concection to an alien aircraft and when it gets hit she feels it. But makes my list due to the semi x rated ending-as the device leaves and it pushes her against lion o, they wonder why. She says in a very suggestive way you will have to read her mind.
4. In one episode towards the end mumm ra is pretty much abusive towards mu mutt. He throws him out of the pryamid as well. Its a little uncomfortable to watch.
5. In "the last day" mumm ra talks back to the spirits of evil and they talk back in thier creepy tone and put mu mutt in a spinning triangle as a way of saying they are done with his failures. Mumm ra is distraught at this and its just unpleasent to see.
But for me the top moment is in "mumm ra lives part 2" as it dawns on them-and us kids watching then that the creepy skytomb (itself a creepy sounding name to a 7 year old with that face on it to boot) is mobile. I got a chill as lion o stands and says:" they can plunder whereever they want to. There is no safe place on third earth." Lion o, our hereo, just admited they are not safe-ouch.
Another great video
The episode where Mummra becomes super powered and only has to sunset to win should have been the finale. The show really went off the rails after that episode.
Thundercats was fantastic!! Glad one day i was in walmart i happened to look at dvds and found a copy of the entire series on a dvd set.. grabbed a copy of it as fast as i could hahaha
Awesome ❤
Thundercats wasn’t on for that long but it’s cultural influence has long outlast the series! There’s been a couple of the tents to make do versions of it but the original still holds up fairly well!
😂 I love this cartoon when I was little
My earliest memories are Thundercats ❤❤❤❤
Love this vid
One of my favorite show
I have to admit I still have the DVD box set. But no DVD player.... Yeah that.
Love the original ❤❤
Very good..
Wow! All I remembered is , THUNDER. THUNDER , THUNDERCATS, HOOOOOOE!!! 😆 🤣
Whoever thumbs down this video they must work for Mum-Ra
So true 😄
Naw.... they worked on Tigersharks
I forgot the exact episode, need to rewatch it, I think it was Season 3 where one of the survivors from Thunderia was a little girl and There was that bat wing like creature that goes through mirrors and monitors and reflections threated her to not spill their secret of her knowing about him. Scary episode to this day.
the episode is called Leah, and yes, it is scary. my favourite character Snarf gets a good role in that one too.
I Enjoyed All The ThunderCats Cartoons 🤗🤗🤗🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠💯💯💯💯💯✅🌈🌈🌈💪💪💪💪💪💪❤️❤️💜💜💜💜💜💜❤️ LOVE ❤️💜 IT Hoping To See The Movie 🍿🎥 Soon In 2023
Very well narrated
It’ll be interesting if Marvellous Videos can do a similar “dark episodes” video for G. I. Joe, given how too many liberties it took from the more serious (and, for the most part, better written) Marvel Comic series of the 1980s.
Worlds Without End (season 3 episodes 36-37) is likely the darkest episode of G. I. Joe as they are sent to a parallel reality and three of the Joes find their counterparts skeletal remains.
Nice description of the episodes except at 3:05 Your statement is incorrect. The Mutants did Not seek the Sword for Mumm-Ra NOR was he their boss because they didn't know of his existence....other than that., you make me wanna watch these episodes again. Well done
3:12 - You say the mutants were acting for their boss, Mumm-Ra, when attacking the Thunderian ships. What are you talking about?! The mutants weren't acting on Mumm-Ra's orders in Episode 1! They didn't even meet him until Episode 2; and had never heard of him up to then.
in the pilot, the mutants were NOT trying to get the sword for their "boss" mumm-ra, as they would not even meet him until an episode or two later, entitled "unholy alliance."
Your voice is perfecto 👍😘
narrator said 10 best episodes but the title is 10 dark and mature episodes 2 completely different things
It’s my all Times favourite 💖💖💖
It’s the code of Thundera not code of thunder…also when the mutants attacked the thundercats ship they weren’t after the sword of omens for Mumm-ra as they hadn’t even met him yet.
Still watching it 😍💖
Thundercats was low key dark.
fun vid!!
my personal fave was lion-o being shoved into cheetara by a small ship linked to cheetara; why wasnt this covered?
Sixth sense. Good question
Wow, I never watched or even knew about the later episodes, they sound amazing.
I think that happened to a lot of us if you watched it when it first aired..... I watched it on Public Access TV and it lasted until several episodes of the introduction of the new Thundercats.... It wasn't until Thundercats premiered on Cartoon Network's Toonami in the mid 90's where I saw the New Thundera era...
@@alejandromolinac Yes, I rcall getting up to the new lot, and then, nothing.
Check them out
season 2 never got an airing in the UK afaik. it was only when the dvd came out did we see that.
Its funny hearing the music and it all comes back even though i forgot 🥺
The Original Thundercats the best...I'll pass on the 2011 series
Grune looks strikingly like Sabertooth from the Warlord comic series of the 1980s
I used to watch the show.
the animation and soundtrack still hold up well to this day. Id even say it a bit better than transformers though still very much a TF fan at heart and Thundercats.
Thundercats was my fav cartoon back when
You can leave an honorable mention in Thundercats 2011 episode 26, where Pumyra, Lion-O's love interest, betrays her lord to her master Mumm-Ra, leaving Lion-O hurt by betrayal and lose of a love.
I can't for a new Thunder Cats game for next gen.
I hope it will be based off the cartoons so no one can go wrong
How do we not have a Thundercats live action movie yet?
Or Thundarr the barbarian?
Return to Thundera is my favourite episode.
The regular return to thundera or the 5parter?
ThunderCats Exodus would be a great movie title
I fancy the 2011 reimagining, but the original is like the very first Godzilla movie
Memories
Oh my god, it was in my time.
Gotta Get All 4 Seasons on DVD.
This is where they got ideal for he-man and the Masters of the universe cartoons series.
He-man and the masters of the universe came out in 1983, two years or so before Thundercats.
This brings me back like a MF yo!
What creature is mumm-ra's skull shaped sarcophagus in his pyramid? Have you noticed when mumm-ra awoke from his 1000 years sleep in the unholy alliance, the sarcophagus eyes glows blue and then before mummra returns back to his sarcophagus the eyes of the sarcophagus glow blue before closing. Have you all guys noticed?? It seems like mummra has all the buttons of his powers in his coffin. How did he knew mutants flying over his pyramid? What made mutants to crash land before his pyramid and had to enter without their weapons using the help of ball of light?? Isnt mumm-ra's sarcophagus a part of the ancient spirits of evil?? Please watch the episode the unholy alliance and please notice every single detail
Everything about the Thundercats reek of New Age!
I never called this a cartoon I called this a Dark toon.
Every time I hear Lion-O it makes me think of Hacksaw Jim Duggan.. when he would go.. ohhhhh.. for those of you don't know he's a wrestler from the '80s.. LOL
The Madd Bubbler is 1 of the rarest, most expensive action figures of all time.
Turns out Mumra lives in the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada
*SIgh* Good times good times. (Glory Days begins to play in the background)...:D
I plan to get the entire complete set!
But if the mutants had never acquired the plans of the war-bot, it shouldn't have been there in the future.
I unfortunately missed the later episodes, because here in DE only part of them were actually synchronized and aired.
I remember watching the first episode and realizing all the Thundercats were standing there naked. I was a young teen and thought it was the greatest thing in the world
wow really good one of your best vids yet
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I really loved the darktoon so much I brought the action figures.
Why cant we have a movie of Thundercats already!!! Someone rich and famous, mske it happen.
I have the thundercat series all four seasons on DVD.
Unlike my uni superMan can't return to his domed planet kition the thunder cats does returns to thire planter before it blows up.
The first season was completed in 1983, and not shown til 1985
Wow watched big fan And didn’t know that fact
@@MrMysticalBlaqueRealms6259 Never watched myself but read the comics a good amount
