    Addon....love listening to your dreams. Tom and I were 25 when we moved up there. Lived in Anchorage but had a place on the Kenai outside of Soldotna. Wonderful wonderful memories.
    Next year I turn 80 and my hope is to come up there with my two children.

    Hate to say this but you're the beginning of the end of a free Alaska. Just like evrryplace in the country, when people start populating an area laws have to happen. Seeing vlogs of lots of young people heading north. Luckily you'll make it. Really looking forward to the cabin build.
    Glad you're heading for the B&B on due day. Good luck. Be safe. ❤❤

    I love that you acknowledged that you will “learn” to be parents. Every child is unique, and what works for most won’t necessarily work with yours. Being fair means to give each child what he/she needs…which isn’t the same as being equal. God gifted me with intelligence while my younger brother had mild CP and was “slow.” He needed much more help than I, and that was what was fair. You are both wonderful, loving parents, and this child is very blessed to have y’all as parents.

    You two are so lucky to have left the lower 48! I wish I was younger because I would so do what you are doing! I am from Colorado Springs and left because of the price of living. The world is on fire and I think Alaska may be the only safe place to be right now, Barr the Bears lol!

    Lol one of the houses we found was kinda like you were talking about. I couldn't get in touch with the realtor so i reached out to a youtuber i subscribe to. Her and her husband drove there and took pictures and video lol. The photos were so old. The house wasn't even white. The house had big holes in the roof the garage was falling over etc. But the price was right lol so glad we had someonelook at it. We did video walk through with our house.

    We're glad that you were able to find a piece of land which will support the off grid life style. And like you said, you can't find it in Colorado. The trapper creek area is an awesome area. On our third visit to Alaska in 2018, we had reservations at the North Country B&B. What an awesome! We're excited for you. All the neat places to visit by snow machine, like Forks Road House, Peters Creek canyon, Danali park. Speaking of Mount Danali, have you see Her? And how about the Aurora? We wish you guys all the best that life has to offer, and prayers for the blessed event!

    When we started looking for a house to buy we wanted a place where we could pay cash and not have a mortgage. Our friends and family were pretty shocks that we are moving all the way from Washington State to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. But that's just one of the places that we could find where we could buy a house with some property and be able to pay cash. We are debt free and mortgage-free and we love that! We love it here it's so quiet and at night you can see the stars.

    Not the worst mosquito year ever, it was reminiscent of summers here as a kid. We were constantly slathering on the Deet. This spring was “late”, but also was more in line of what springs were like years ago. The earlier, drier springs we’ve had in recent years do seem to hinder the mosquito populations. IMO

    It is pretty nice the freedoms we have here. You can build your own place in the Mat Su with no permits or inspections unless you use a bank. I’ve built a few places here, one off the road and another on. I had one house for 30 years. It’s a lot of work milling lumber. You can also buy a lot of 2x lumber for the cost of a saw mill and all the other equipment cost to run it.

    I just discovered your channel. I've lived in Alaska a looong time and have seen many people come here with unrealistic expectations and a lack of skills. For what it's worth, you two impress me and that's not easy to do. You will do well here. Congratulations on your baby and may God bless your family.

    Welcome to Alaska. We have been here 8 winters now, our 2nd winter off grid and remote in a cabin we built. We are 50 miles north of Fairbanks. If you think its not cold in the winter where your staying now come on up.... lol

      That's awesome! We had a -25° stretch the other day and I'm perfectly content with that being our coldest so far! 😆 I bet it's beautiful up there. We've been to Circle, AK but that's as far North as I've gone.

    I live in Colorado. You are so right. It is expensive to live here. They just raised our real estate taxes by 70%. We have to come up with $200.00 a month more now. Minimum wage is now over $12.00 per hour which has raised food prices. We moved to the boondocks BECAUSE the taxes were lower; and now they are ridiculous. And what are we getting for the extra taxes we are now paying? Nothing! They won't even plow or take care of our roads. Its disgusting!

    • @ouroffgridalaskanlife3998
      @ouroffgridalaskanlife3998 9 місяців тому +2

      Minimum wage here is much higher. The minimum wage doesn't affect food prices.
