- One of the most exciting revivals is definitely the Netflix series Fuller House, which brought most of the original cast of Full House back to the small screen for more family-friendly shenanigans. We've known for quite some time, however, that Michelle Tanner would be absent, given that the Olsen twins declined to take part in the revival. Now, thanks to Fuller House executive producer Bob Boyett, we finally have the real reason why Mary-Kate and Ashley won't be sharing the role of Michelle one more time.

Mike Gee The reason they aren't is because they were tired of acting, and because they spent most of their childhood forced to learn lines and act since birth. Also, one of them has an eating disorder so they're working together to get through it.

I also heard that Mary Kate really was going to do it, but they had scheduled to film during fashion week, and she asked for them to reschedule the filming but they refused and of course she's not going to miss the most important week of the year for her main business for a show she never even liked doing in the first place. I thought it was so rude how the show made jabs at them as though they did something wrong when they didn't.

It was harmless jabs. Nothing really bad. The cast members are still really close with the twins and they do keep in contact when they have the chance.

I think it would be nice to have a photo up, in a picture frame somewhere in the house, of Ash or MK as older Michelle and leave it as that.
Don’t replace them, just let the show be. It’s good the way it’s rolling right now, and if they do try and replace Michelle, it will be awkward knowing the fact that all of them have been doing this show together for YEARS
it wouldn't be awkward because like what dave said, they were just toddlers when the show ended. they don't share the same memories as them, so replacing the actor would be a smarter choice.

Also judging how the storyline goes kimmy gibbler might not have moved in if Michelle came back and the show wouldn’t be as funny. With Michelle absent I do admit it fits the storyline. If you’re a real fan you’ll know Joey wasn’t actually related to the tanners just a close friend to danny. So kimmy being on here portrays her as Joey because she’s the goofy one. And Stephanie as the good looking singer like Jesse and Dj the hugger and organizer of the whole shindig like Danny. Michelle being there would necessarily mess it up because just like in 87 there were 3 dads and 3 daughters plus a “kimmy” now there’s 3 moms and 3 boys plus a “ramona”
I don't know if anybody remembers, most probably forgot by now. But Mary-Kate and Ashley was forced into acting growing up by their parents. Their parents made bank off those girls, and they loved that money. When the girls turned 18 they finally had complete control over their money, the parents at that point did not. But the banks did not have all the money saved up like it should have. The girls took their parents to court over it. I'm not sure what came of that, I just don't remember. But the girls had complete control over their own lives when they turned 18, as well as their careers and the parents did not. So it's no wonder they don't like acting. They were forced into it as kid's growing up from money hungry parents, I think mostly the dad. They got screwed out of hard earned money, they didn't have a normal childhood. They grew up in the spotlight by force. Had that been you growing up how would you feel? Needless to say I don't blame them.

People talked about that their parents forced them into a ring which happened all the time but once they got older they still wanted or at least tried acting. But when they got older they did the movie New York Minute and people didn't care for them as much that they weren't little cute kids so the movie bombed and they probably thought the height of their acting career was over.

Just because everyone else from years ago actually joined back which was incredible. There are two of those girls that could play Michelle and neither could just make a cameo. Disappointing. Sure, even if you don't want to act, would it kill you to go back for one episode or a short appearance, Jesus, Michelle was like the main character on Full House. The Olson Twins didn't just play Michelle, they were in movies and had their own franchise since early on. Books, tv shows, products.... those kids were BUSY to say the least. If they don't want to come back as performers, I don't blame them!

It makes sense to me. Ashley worked for 17 as an actress and Mary Kate worked for 25 years to make fans happy. They are in a totally different industry now and are finally doing what's best for them. I agree. The twins were the only ones of the whole cast to have hugely successful second careers after Full House ended. A reboot is great news if you're a washed-up actor who's been out of work for a long time, but in Mary-Kate and Ashley's case, appearing in a reboot would be...kind of beneath them. They've worked really hard to be taken seriously in the harsh and critical world of high fashion, and coming back to the show would undo some of their fashion cred, I think. It wouldn't be a good business move for them.

Ilznidiotic Its not about "having" to do Fuller House, its about them WANTING to do something special for their fans. No one who returned to tape full house NEEDED to do it. All those actors are set for life, and unlike the Olsen twins, some of them actually graduated college so no one NEEDS to do Fuller House, but the ppl who did come back did it for the fans. It seems the Olsen twins only care enough about their fans to ensure the money keeps coming in. When they held a book signing, the fans were not allowed to speak to them. In other words, the Olsens are basically saying: Hey, come buy our book! Great, now that we have our money, dont speak to us, go away! I agree, but if they can't get her, I think it's better to write the part out of the show rather than have some strange actor play Michelle. I think they handled it the best way by explaining what Michelle was doing in the pilot and then letting it go. The only actor I would have accepted as Michelle with Mary-Kate and Ashley not available is their younger sister.
I dont blame them at all for not wanting to do Fuller House. Everyone would be analyzing them for every single mistake, look, etc. And they haven't acted for a while now it would probably be pretty awkward to do it now. I love them both so much!!! Cool gamer at first it was actually Jessie, Danny, and Joey who we're the main characters, but in later seasons, Michele became the main character. But I do say the later seasons were pretty bad in comparison to the earlier seasons.

Unlike the rest of the FH cast, they didn't have a choice. They were babies, and therefore forced into the acting industry. I don't blame them one bit for not wanting to make a comeback. I'm happy that they are following their passions in the fashion world, and wish them nothing but success and happiness. 💕

I don't think that is true. yes they have a good income/career but I don't think they are that much more wealthy. As far as being on Fuller House because they "need" or "not need" to, has nothing to do with it. They are not wanted as a regular as the dynamic of the series is set. We have Stefanie as the aunt helping to raise the boys just like Jesse was the uncle raising the girls. We have Kimmie helping with the boys just like we had Joey helping with the girls. To throw Michelle into the mix, would mess with the series dynamic. Now if she does not want to guest star because she was abused at some point and Bob Saget's nasty jokes repulsed her I get that. it is okay, I would not blame her but she is not needed. As far as I am concerned Bob Saget is not needed or Dave Coulier. I would prefer if they never guest starred on it. I hate their filthy stand up acts. And I don't see why they can't make a special appearance in an episode. I mean, maybe they shouldn't do it for them, they should do it for the fans. It would have been the best if either Mary-Kate or Ashley had accepted being in Fuller House but since they refused the producers just should have taken another actress to play the role. That would have made more sense than cutting out the role of adult Michele completely.
