Yes, she sadly did. Check out this piece I wrote about Betsy Palmer and her lasting impact on the horror genre. www.pizowell.com/single-post/2017/05/14/Mother-of-Horror-Remembering-Betsy-Palmer
I was on a few of those message boards. I remember those days. I remember the hype of this collection. I loved this collection. I got it a few days before official release, because I worked in a store that sold these. I STILL have this collection. It is one of my favorite possessions now.
The two movies to a disc thing wasn’t a big deal for me, because these are 90 minute movies. They looked and sounded awesome, especially for their time.
I bought this set when it came out for $60. Which in hindsight was just crazy, but I can say that I got so much enjoyment from the commentaries on most of the movies that I would say it was worth the experience. And I totally agree with you on casing for these boxsets. Scream Factory had it right with the Halloween Set. As well as the US Phantasm set. We need an Elm Street and Friday the 13th set like those with original key art cover (could be reversible).
I bought this box set the day it was released back in October 2004, when I was living in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. I paid about 50 dollars. That was actually a great price for Canada.
I got this for Christmas my freshman year of high school shortly after it came out. Still have it. I thought it was a solid boxset. It was nice having all the movies and the special features were amazing.
I still remember working the day it came out. After I got done, I ran all over town to find the boxset. Thank goodness I was able to get it at my local Barnes and Noble. I still remember my friends and I were losing our minds over this coming out and it’s an awesome set to me. Thanks for the review for this and the content and live streams you guys do. Keep the amazing work coming please! I do have to say when I saw the Scary Trailers special feature, and it said Don LaFontaine would talk about the trailers, I was wondering where it is because it’s not on there lol! I was like am I missing something but other fans said the same thing too.
still have and love this set, introduced many others to it this way and it was a good upgrade from the vhs. got the newlines on their own seperate dvds. I never did transition to blu-ray, I just was happy enough with these that it wasn't needed.
I would say there is so many Friday 13th movies its not to bad as to have two movies in one case as it would be quiet a set if they included Jason Goes to Hell & Jason X.
I remember pre ordering this back in the day through amazon got so much enjoyment out of that set ended up selling it on just a couple of years ago and made double what I paid for it as I had the complete Blu-ray collection which I love personally !
Thanks for reviewing this, Pizowell. I wanted this set so badly back in the day, but as a college sophomore, I had very little money at the time, so I basically ended up waiting until the Deluxe Edition DVD's were released five years later to complete my collection. All I'd like to know now is why Paramount never included the trailers for The New Blood and Jason Takes Manhattan on any of their releases. I mean it's not like they never existed, even if the trailer for Part VIII was only a teaser.
I recently got this set and am pleased with the fact that the bonus DVD contains all the Friday The 13th Chronicles and Secrets Galore Behind the Gore videos that are otherwise spread out across between three and five Blu-ray discs. It does strike me as ironic that the DVD set has two movies on each disc including parts 1 and 2 and part 3 and The Final Chapter whereas even the Blu-ray double feature for 1 and 2 and the one for 3 and The Final Chapter have each movie on a separate Blu-ray disc.
I genuinely like this collection. I can't get my hands on the blu-ray set because it sold for $200+ on amazon but the Crystal Lake Collection is pretty good still. Great video as always Piz.
Target carried this too for $35. Rushed out and grabbed first day on my way to work. Sam Goody's prices were that high (same as sister store Suncoast) because they were mall stores. Company claimed they were impulse buy facilities for people who were at the mall and didn't want to wait two weeks for Amazon to deliver.
The one I frequented actually wasn't located in a mall, but in a small shopping center. Like I said in the video, they definitely weren't cheap. I had to be selective about what I bought there. They did have a nice cheap bin. That's where I first discovered movies like Silent Night, Bloody Night, The Beyond and Pieces, so I have a lot of fond memories of my old Sam Goody.
My brother paid a heavy price like you did and let me borrow it. I couldn't agree more with you that this just felt like a lazy release. This was all about the Chronicles to me. I loved the Chronicles. That was the treasure in this rather ho-hum set. I later wanted to rewatch this but my brother pawned it. 🤪
does anyone else agree that studios put more thought into DVD box sets than they do for the Bluray boxsets?? I don't just mean content wise I mean the way the boxsets were present, the Nightmare On Elm St DVD boxset for example.
Nightmare on Elm Street got a great DVD box set (Nightmare even got a pretty nice VHS set, as well), but the Blu-ray set is...well, embarrassing. That series deserves much better.
I hope they release the Paramount 8 on a blu ray box set soon. My only real problem with the recent blu ray set is the inclusion of the New Line films. Im still clinging to the dream of a steel book box set of the Paramount 8 remastered in 4k, and part 3 in true 3d. I have finally accepted the probability that the extended footage does not exist anymore.
Hey Piz, wanted to let you know that I'm pretty certain that the commentary that's on part 7 with director and Kane Hodder has only been on that set. The commentary that is on the other releases is one with the director and Kane hodder on the phone during it. The one on the C L to M box set was a much better one IMO. I use to have this set back in the day, but i ended up trading it for the mask and blu ray version :( I need to get it back into the collection ASAP ! LOL
I still have my U.S. & U.K. Crystal Lake to Manhattan boxsets, only the U.S. boxset has all the extra features, all the other world wide C L to M boxsets were bare bones. The U.K. boxset has 1 movie per disc though. Great vid! : )
pizowell late to the party here, but the UK version? We got screwed! The box is not embossed, the discs are plain because I think they are the very same discs from the old individual releases, however as stated you get two discs (movies) in one case and the biggest kick to the balls is no extras disc! I missed out on the Blu Ray box set release and here in the UK we only have The original movie (rated) and the remake, a damn shame.
I have the 8 film blu ray set which I very much enjoy since the paramount 8 are my favorite. However half the movies are 2 to a disc just like the set in this video, so they still haven't got it completely right.
I've seen the boxset it's awesome👏🏻, been craving 2 get this set. In 2004 I was attending middle school @ the time this boxset was released & saw this boxset on a magazine @ a barbershop promoting the release of the boxset & I was surprised😯since.
Love that set! Was a new release buy for me. Great features. Cool box - glad Peter Bracke had them change to Pt 8 mask and not Jason X. Thing that bugged me was how they changed the classic F13 font (glad they've since gone back). They incorporated the classic poster art into the covers for 3, 4 & 6, which was nice. BTW, that awful Pt 3 description was on the vhs I think. Maybe they all were (I recall the word "hitherto" on the Pt 4 vhs made me grab a dictionary). Wish they hadn't left off the Scary Trailers feature mentioned on the Killer Extras case - sounded interesting.
Someone may have already mentioned this, but I wonder why the font on the box and on the discs is different than the original Paramount FT13 fonts (the poster on your wall actually does use the correct fonts from the earlier movies). Just a thought. ;)
it was one of if not the biggest horror board on the net at the time. it was active from like 99 or 00 until it exploded and everything was lost in 2007. the URL for it was fridaythe13thforum.com. I was a moderator there. the other big one was OHMB (official halloween message board) which I believe is still active today. Good times. your comment about if you were a horror fan before social media you were probably active on horror boards is so accurate. Cheers dude.
hi pizowell can I have your thoughts on the box set i have of this very similar looking but it's from Japan region 2 digi pack and it contains the complete set of films and also includes freely vs jason how bizarre very cool though
I have never liked this collection. I hate the logos and the designs of the sleeve and cases. First off skipping the iconic logo in favor of that dreadful version from the 5-8 DVDs. As well as not using any of the original artwork. Cosmetic complaints but if F13 fans are a tough crowd sometimes. Still the only place with a Part 3 commentary.
May 29th, 2017. Betsy Palmer passed away two years ago today.
Yes, she sadly did. Check out this piece I wrote about Betsy Palmer and her lasting impact on the horror genre.

I missed her😪
@@pizowellhard to believe it'll be 10 next year

I STILL have this collection. It is one of my favorite possessions now.
I neglected to mention in the video that 2017 marks the 13th anniversary of this set.
pizowell the comments on the back of part 3 vhs is the same comments on that box set
I see. I used to own all the Paramount Friday the 13th's on VHS. I had no idea what ever became of them, though.
pizowell how is the blu ray set not the ultimate collectors item lol that thing goes for 2 to 300 dollars on ebay right now
I bought this set for like $10 almost a year ago at my local Salvation army.... such a great find.... Great video by the way :)
Wow! That was an awesome find. Congrats!
pizowell thanks a bunch 😊
The two movies to a disc thing wasn’t a big deal for me, because these are 90 minute movies. They looked and sounded awesome, especially for their time.
Sounded good hell yes and the movie selection music is so good
I bought this set when it came out for $60. The synopsis you read from Part 3 was also on the VHS. They are def not counselors LOL
That synopsis for Friday the 13th part 3 goes back to the old VHS tapes.
I bought this box set the day it was released back in October 2004, when I was living in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. I paid about 50 dollars. That was actually a great price for Canada.
$68 for me
I remember buying this when it first was released. I ended up giving it away to a good friend after I bought the 2013 boxset. I should have kept it.
I got this for Christmas my freshman year of high school shortly after it came out. Still have it. I thought it was a solid boxset. It was nice having all the movies and the special features were amazing.

I noticed you read the back of part three. The back of part three has said that since the old VHS days.
got this when it came out when sun coast was still around.
Pizowell, we needs more of these old box set reviews!
Thanks for reviewing this, Pizowell. I paid 80 bucks for this thing sometime within the first few weeks of its release.
Sam Goody became FYE

Moffdolloff The Doppelgänger Loves It
They cut cornerz, just like the movies themselves!
I bought this for cheap! Love it! I'm not a picky F13 fan!

Da Crystal Lake, Paramount Eight!
I ‘member when this set got two and a half severed thumbs!
Congrats on 7,000 subs!
Thanks, El Barto!
It's now 45,000.
Congratulations.

Thanks, and thanks for the knowledge. I had no idea the UK release was that different from the US.

Great boxset and commentaries
Sam Goody went the way of the DoDo bird in '06, after being bought out buy Best Buy.
You said dodo.
Awesome video. Thanks
Thanks, Corey!

I own this set and I have no complaints :)
Wow this looks like a really good graphic design project for college lol
13:18 Your wish was granted
Mine just arrived from eBay today I got it for £20 (uk money) idk how much that is in $
Someone may have already mentioned this, but I wonder why the font on the box and on the discs is different than the original Paramount FT13 fonts (the poster on your wall actually does use the correct fonts from the earlier movies). Just a thought. ;)
I just picked this up for 20$
Be glad you didn't get the european boxset, no commentery or special features on any of the discs.
I have it n the other recent collection.
I don’t care that there are 2 movies on 1 disc.
hey pizowell were you a member of the friday the 13th films message board ran by Blake and Brenna?
It's been so long ago I don't recall, honestly.
it was one of if not the biggest horror board on the net at the time. it was active from like 99 or 00 until it exploded and everything was lost in 2007. the URL for it was fridaythe13thforum.com. Wonder if your gonna pick up that new super blu ray collection and review im interested to see what that one brings the box art is amazing
Is this full screen or widescreen ?
hi pizowell can I have your thoughts on the box set i have of this very similar looking but it's from Japan region 2 digi pack and it contains the complete set of films and also includes freely vs jason how bizarre very cool though
Only good thing about this set was the Part 3 commentary.
You loved Sam Goodey because Gooddy gotz it! (Hadz it?)
Only the part 6 commentary carried over onto the blu-rays. The rest were ignored.
I have that box set.
omg I requested this
Sam Fisher Hope you liked the video.
sorry freddy vs jason
anotherrrr friday the 13th box set???!!!!! omg stop already geez
