Cb, I did the exact same thing 2 weeks ago. American standard has not one not two but three different vacuum breakers for slop sink faucet. Local repair parts store only had the two I didn’t need. Amazon had the one I needed. Can’t really justify replacing a two year old faucet for a vacuum breaker but I get your point. Repair work is my bread and butter. A lot of customers appreciate repair instead of replacing. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!!
FYI: That is a FIAT 830- Series Mop Sink Faucet & the anti siphon valve rubber disc dries up and its metal rusts and Fails/starts leaking whenever using. The rebuild kit is part # GRA07000 BUT it is no longer made/hard to find And some are asking $80 for it! BUT American Standard bought out/merged with FIAT and sells like the same faucet under the new name. *I found American Standard Kit Model # M962952-0020A is only $20 and is a perfect upgrade/repair fit they use now. With an improved nylon w/rubber disc washers, nylon threaded under cap piece, a new larger metal chrome cap & larger dia. long retaining/positioning Allen screw! Use a #2 Allen screw to remove old cap, then use big pliers or pipe wrench to unscrew the brass under cap piece counter clockwise to access old disc. When screwing on the new nylon under cap, don't over tighten but enough not to leak. The new Allen screw takes like a size 1/8" wrench. Take care
What does vaccum breaker do? I just got city inspection they tell me I need one installed in laundry. I feel it's just bullshit they pull out of their rear end just to call for things.
Chuck, we've all been down that road with back and forth trips. We are Professional Plumbers, and we have to find the right balance between being able "to fix" and when to "replace". Part of the problem today is that most customers don't understand what it takes to be in business these days. We all have those customers who think we are over priced, and it gets us in the mindset of trying to do that quick fix to save them money, when it actually costs "us" the Plumber in lost time and money cause of return trips. If we listen to our gut instincts, both the customers and the Professional can save time and money. I could go on and on about this subject for days. You're spot on with your analysis.
dude.....so right. its a balance for sure. we know when its time to replace. I guessed wrong on this one... not next time....I love T and S. especially new installs
Ferguson, in my neck of the woods has in stock. At the end of the day you got it fixed, health dept and restaurant happy campers, Barrons plumbing are the heroes
Just replaced 2 at work last week and bought 2 extra for stock. Luckily just needed the internal stuff and it fit! lol. The old ones were 2 times discontinued so I was worried they wouldn't fit.
they still want protection from any mop sink or other with a "hose" connection to have vacuum breakers. why? say there's a valves/plumbing lower than it or someone drains the water tank without venting and it creates a vacuum within the buildings plumbing, with a hose on dirty mop bucket water/pan will be sucked back into the system.... RPZ at the service line entrance is made to protect the city/supplied water side, in case of lawn sprinklers both the service side and dwelling system, same reason for still having vacuum breakers on all hose bibs.
I hear you bro,old client called me with a stupid storm door fix, went back and forth 5 times,my money was flying out my van window and so was my temper lol,I think I am also going to take that advice
hi,can you give me a link where you bought a part (vacuum breaker replaced for commercial floor sink faucet) from amazon.I need it.Thank you for your help
Yoooo chuck B!!!!!! Time is money big dawg.... no need for repairs we are out here to plunder and pillage.... lol nah I’m juts playing.... sort of... good work bro... how’s them solder classes coming along...🤙🤑😎🏝
two flats on this job......new treads next time.......its coming...the solder thing....i swear....lol.... CB2 about to start his apprentice mandatory classes for jersey. They may beat me to it....ha
Hi CB , Why is it on some smaller jobs , with running to the merchants and back , cost us money . Maybe replace instead of repair is the way to go ???. Keep the video coming .
you can do repairs only, but have to be 100% the parts are correct for and mostly order online, because the supply counter guys haven't got a clue most of the time. if it's something with time constraints, then just replace the whole unit and be done with it, leave the old as a spare if they want to find the parts themselves lol.
Hi CB, Good Morning Plumbers. Here in Puerto Rico 🇵🇷, my first choice is J.A. SEXAUER for needs OEM Plumbing Parts all makes. Have a nice day and your sons too !!! 😃👍🏼👍🏼🔧🚰💧
Looks like a Speakman faucet. Too bad the guy didn’t take a pic of the faucet to send you before you arrived. Feel your pain. FWIW, I recently became aware that T&S has plastic Chinese parts in it - was once the best.
CB-1 I know those kind of jobs suck if you don't get the right parts but now that you got it fixed I bet you feel better about it now you know to go to Amazon to get your parts not the supply house Lol peace brother
At least you tried the simple solution first; restaurants probably make poor profits - the owner must have appreciated your efforts. I'm surprised a VB doesn't apply to the plumbing inspection dept. ... At least he didn't have a hose attached to the faucet. If I was the health inspector, I'd be more concerned about the state of the floor - doesn't look good.
hey thanks man, down here in australia we do pretty well too. Just glad that you're sucessfull aswell over in the US. Might work there doing plumbing one day who knows
While I am sure that you have nothing but good intentions when doing these videos, the video was virtually useless...all you did was showed us your failed attempt. Why not zoom in on the existing cap, then zoom in on the cap for the failed attempt and then zoom in on the cap of the successful attempt. This would show us the brand and part number that was there, the brand and part number of cap for the fail attempt and what eventually worked. Honestly, you'll get many more subscribers and many more people watching your videos.
This is exactly what I did today but I sold the whole faucet. I learned my lesson on things not fitting a long time ago. Lol
Some close up shots would be nice.
roger
Always have customers get faucet brand and any other pertinent info if possible before heading to job. Saves lots of time.

it prevents a vacuum if water is off to building and you have a hose in bucket. Prevents it from siphoning into water lines from bucket.

Being a restaurant Chuck if a rpz device was in stalled after the water meter it would cover all possible water contamination issues

what type of faucet Chris?
Oh, I’m sorry.. It’s the same exact one that your working on. I just need the part number for the vacuum breaker from Amazon..
Looks like a Speakman faucet. Too bad the guy didn’t take a pic of the faucet to send you before you arrived. Feel your pain. FWIW, I recently became aware that T&S has plastic Chinese parts in it - was once the best.
no pain no gain. seems everyone cutting corners to compete.

This place on top of their game for sure. New Guy trying to bust a move for city at lunch time of all times.
Amazon is undercutting the prices of the supply house and they have more variety sometime
the pricing war continues
How do you repair that type of valve if is leaking
complete handle and stem is replaced.
its a kit.
