Some joke that driving through a rez is nothing more than dirt roads and dogs with a $50 million dollar school 😂 but they live in harmony with the land around them I’ve really appreciated the Native American history and culture I’ve read
This is truly WONDERFUL! Now we must do everything possible to protect the river tributaries and to restore (and create) wetlands in the watershed that will provide shelter for fish and other animals, and will provide cool, clean water to the river during the hot, dry months of summer.
The lack of vegetation along the river banks speaks volumes to the instability these dams create on the landscape. The restored patterns of seasonal flows will gradually bring back life as the banks begin to be reestablished. Many of these dams are a blockage of a natural.cooling system for the earth turning living riverbeds and banks into deserts. Sometimes its best to go with the flow!

I remember years ago watching people at the mouth of the Klamath legally netting every salmon they could using huge nylon nets and trucks on the river bars winching in these nets loaded with salmon that never had the chance to even get a mile up the river from the ocean. There is much irony watching people proclaim that these dams have opened up 400 miles of possible habitat for laying eggs but people catch so many salmon before they can even get up stream to these habitats........crazy stuff.
Native tribes always had the wisdom not to over harvest and to leave enough breed stock to support their people every year for centuries. That is still the case. What you saw was probably an allotted harvest based on the science of fisheries management.

Water wheels. They work like a hydro dam but on a smaller scale. They do NOT restrict the flow of the river and can be placed anywhere water flows.
