The issue here is not the music or the quality of the this video itself, the really important thing in this presentation is the information, the step by step two and a half minutes Master Class that this guy had gifted to all of us. Wow... this save me hundreds of dollars and, if we put all other experiences shared here together, we can talk about hundreds of thousands $$$, $$$ saved... Thank You Man!!!... God Bless You and your Family!!! 2015 Subaru XV Crosstrek Primium
I was having the same issue with fluctuating and rough idle with my 2017 WRX. I'd turn on the AC or rear defrost and the car would start shaking and the RPMs would dive. The engine was also making a whining\ticking like noise for the first 10 minutes. Did a drive with a technician from Downtown Subaru in Toronto and was told it was normal because of the type of engine it is. Glad I came across this fix cause it absolutely works and fixed my issues. Maybe Downtown Subaru should start watching UA-cam videos!
Not normal, i have a 2018 forester, with 20k miles, tec at subaru said it was a dirty throttle body.. i was like dirty with 20000 miles. Did research and found out it was obviously something electronic, was suggesting to change to a high power battery, not the cheep subaru one tho
@@teebzr5975it can absolutely be just in this computer parameter issue. The computer learns as it goes and if it gets outside parameters that allow for weather, elevation, humidity, battery life and many other factors, those parameters have to be reset. You could make someone believe they have an expensive issue when they do not. The only reason I am back here is a refresh on the steps, as I know it works. It’s the actions needed if you do replace any sensors or your battery goes bad also. New sensor or a new battery, any time the battery is disconnected, these steps need taken. A wonky idle from these cars may not be ‘normal’ but given what I know, after owning one for almost 10 years, it’s not abnormal either.
My 2015 will drop in rpm once every few minutes for like a couple seconds after idling for 10-15 minutes and if the AC is on even just a little bit then it hesitates when shifting but I heard that’s kinda normal cause the engine is working hard to run and have the ac going at the same time.. I swapped the battery out cause the old one was going out. But doing these steps actually worked for yours? Cause we have the same FA motor
2008 wrx, built and pro tuned here: had the same issue, downshifting and coming to a stop my car would just barely not stall out every single time. It's been really making the car feel like shit and I was tempted to sell it because I checked the maf, boost leaks, Vaccum leaks etc and nothing, I thought even maybe the tune was done incorrectly. I followed the instructions and holy cow I'm literally in shock that it actually worked, I've never been so relieved in my life, well maybe that's an exagération but you guys get it.
Currently having this issue with my 08 Impreza (non turbo) 5 speed, when downshifting/throwing in neutral to slow down for a stop sign/red light I notice my rpm’s drop below 200 (nearly stalls) hopefully this will fix my issue.
It worked on my 2012 Subaru Outback 2.5i with 88,000 miles. It recently had a new battery installed, then started idling erratically at stop signs and stop lights. It even stalled a couple of times at stop signs. I was told it was likely a dirty throttle box. So I cleaned the throttle even though it looked shiny clean to me. However it was still idling poorly afterward, so I did this idle reset. Now it purrs at stop signs. It likely saved me hundreds at the dealership! Thanks for posting!
Was skeptical. 2013 legacy. Even died after the 1st 10 minute run. Still skeptical. Finished the entire process. Completely fixed. Running smooth as it did before the battery swap. Bless this dude 😁🙏🏼
Incredible! I was hesitant when I came across this video but it worked like a charm on my 2014 Subaru XV. I had removed the battery for a short period of time and after re-installing my idle was very rough and would stall out when I began to break and come to a stop. All my dash warning lights would light up and freak me out thinking I’d be in for an expensive trip to the mechanic. Fortunately, after following the steps in this video, the idle returned to normal and is driving brilliantly! Thank you!
Thanks so much! My 2016 Forester was disconnected from the battery for a few hours during an update of the Starlink system at the dealership. After I returned home, the Forester began to idle very low (~500 rpm), and stalled 3x. Your tip to reset the Idle Speed setting and get the car to ‘relearn’ the idle speed was awesome. Everything’s back to normal (or even better than normal)!
I just changed the battery on my 2017 forester, I notice it idles kind of low when the AC is off, but it seems okay when the AC is on... Also, my driver windows buttons for driver and passenger were acting up, the driver's side was not going down all the way without holding it down, and the driver's passenger windows button was not working.... other temporal issue was setting back the date, it was only allowing me to set the hour and it didn't allow me to change the minutes, date, etc. but it worked out later after turning off and on the car couple of times. seems an array of issues comes up after disconnecting the battery.
Yeah, this hack works! My 2015 Forester 2.3 Premium 6MT (66K miles) was having a somewhat rough idle for about a year, down at about 600-700rpm when sitting at a stoplight or in stop-and-go traffic. I followed the procedure in the video, and to my surprise...it worked! It now has a smooth idle at about 850-900rpm, just like it did when I bought it new. I replaced the battery about two months ago so it was without power for a day, but after installing the battery I did not let it idle for 10 minutes, nor did I wait 20 seconds on off ignition and then restart and let it idle for another 5 minutes, as advised in this excellent video! Thank you, Subaru support, for never advising owners that when the engine management computer loses power that there is a friggin' reset procedure for the engine idle that has to be followed, like there is for the front driver's auto power window. Tossers...
Hey there, 16 STI owner here. Having a rough idle at stop lights. I checked all hoses and there is no leak. Did the idle relearn fix the issue completely?
@pamelavance648 Not sure if you found the fix or not yet, but what you do is: 1. Start the car, keep it in park 2. On the front passenger door, put the window all the way down and continue holding the button down for 5 seconds 3. Let go of the switch very briefly 4. Put the window all the way up and continue holding for 5 seconds If your issue was a simple reset requirement due to an unhooked battery, glitch, whatever - it should be fixed Doing this procedure on the front passenger door switch is required for it to work
Thanks so much! My car was stalling in traffic and idling very rough. I figured it was spark plugs... Running good now after your fix...:) One thing to note is that when it was running rough, I wasn't getting a check engine light which seemed strange...
Thanks for this video, solved my problem with absolute simplicity. After dealing with the local Auto association I thought I had BIG problems. Subaru needs to make mention of this in their service books
Subaru Liberty 2.5 2013. This WORKS!!!!! Initially the car felt like you hadn’t pressed accelerator and all of a sudden - it would take off. Coming to a complete stop - it would feel like the car would stall (automatic). After doing this procedure - problem went away. Thank you to uploader.
I have a 94 Subaru SVX that I had a surge issue after replacing the alternator and idler pulley. I followed this video and it saved me hours looking for a loose ground, vacuum leak, IACV issues, or who knows what else as all of those things could cause it. Thank you.
Thank you! My wife's' 2011 Outback had a rough/low idle and was stalling out because if it. Cleaned the MAF and throttle body while I waited for the 30 minute battery disconnect portion. So, not sure which of the three actually fixed the problem, but in less than an hour and at no cost, it's running like a top!
Worked great on my 06 Impreza 2.5 automatic. Even removed my check engine light, for now at least. But drives like a different car, no more erratic idling. Thank you.
Dude, you just saved me $1200! Thanks. In case my story helps the next person, here goes. My wife started her car and started backing out of the driveway only to realize she'd forgotten her tea. She pulled up, and turned the car off but it wouldn't start once she returned. I thought it was the batter and had it replace. After starting the car it fluttered so I gassed it - party over! I was told it was the ECU $800 + labor $200 + tow to Subaru dealership $200. But I followed your video and all is well. Thanks again!!!
DeadZone318 Terrible that Subaru would try to hose your for a new ECU when it was something simple. I have had similiar bad experiences with Subaru service departments. I still love my Subie though.
I had a Subaru dealer replace my headgaskets and when I went to pick up my car, the car would stall every time I stopped. I brought it back and they claimed to have reset the trans, flushed the fluid, etc (BS). Anyway after some searching on the forum, I found I just needed to clean my MAF and perform this procedure.
I just tried this on my 2014 Forester after it had stalling issues after changing the battery. This 100% works, my car is back running smoothly! Love it. Thanks for posting.
I worked for me!! I've only driven for 30 minutes and no problem. See what tomorrow brings. My mechanic was baffled. I'll share the instructions with him.
Patrick Boulay I swear, could you imagine how much money not knowing this could cost people. Mine has been doing the same thing. I have already spent about 120 dollars on new parts and was planning on spending a lot more. I will try this and post the results.
WTG. 2000 Subaru Impreza Outback RS with 116,750 miles as of March 01, 20. It works!!! Have had idling, acceleration issues for 2 years chasing, plugs, timing, fuel jets, notorious carbon buildup, pcv, air flow, etc. Problem solved with this e z fix. Saved me much more time and money. Thanks. Please post more DIY's. Subaru's are a learning curve.
Subaru has throttle position adaptations values that are stored in ECU memory. If you disconnect or remove battery or even clear errors, ECU will reset and will lost all adaptations. And if throttle body is dirty, you'll get rough idle or even engine stall. So, after ECU reset you should: 1. Clear throttle body 2. Turn on ignition, but do not start the car. 3. Wait until ECU completely boots. Usually it takes about 5 seconds. Just wait util speedometer needle comes back. 4. If you have EJ engine, you should learn throttle plate position. Press accelerator pedal 3-4 times. You could hear throttle is moving. If you have FA/FB engine, you don't need to do throttle position learning procedure, but of you do, nothing bad will happen. But you won't hear the throttle moving because it does not move on later ECUs. 5. Start your engine. That's all folks!
Thnx for the video. Here's my story. I have Subaru Outback 2,5 165hp. The rpm dropped very low when coming to a stop. Sometimes so low that the engine stopped. I did a reset. And the car is working fine after two days of intense testing. Because I'm a bit lazy I did my reset without unplugging the battery. I turned off all the electrical systems. Turn the key into the contact position. Leave it like that for 10 seconds. After that I started the engine and left it running for 5 minutes. Repeated the process twice. Ta-da my car runs like new. Will report back in case it'll start making troubles again.
hello ! had a very erratic , rough idle , engine shaking a bit on my 2007 Subaru Legacy GT, usually coming to a stop, did a compression check, 175psi all around, removed , inspected and replaced the plugs with NGK iridium, while I was there replaced a leaky valve cover gasket, off course had to remove the battery, after I was done the car was running actually worst and idling even lower, did some reasearch and found this video , follow the relearning procedure for idle , and I feel like I have a new car, it idles perfect, and doesnt do the wanting to stall number, idles very steady, and off course I feel like it may have better throttle respond off Idle..... Thank You so much for loading this video
german996 On my 03 outback near the throttle body their is a idle adjustment part to play with the idle. The 2 bolt piece is loosened with a few turns, and part twists at that point.
Also try cleaning the MAF sensor with MAF Sensor cleaner. It’s two Phillips screws and about ten minutes of work. Using a K&N Filter allows a lot of buildup on the MAF. I did away with the K&N and went back to a paper filter.
german996 I have the same problem with my civic si. I only feel it through my steering wheel and when stopped but it drives fine. Should I try doing this?
2006 Subaru 2.5L Impreza 80,000 miles. After disconnecting the battery, I changed air filter and cleaned MAF Sensor with CRC sensor spray. Holy Moses, the idle fluctuated and was about to stall. My wife cooked no dinner that evening messing up her perfectly good car. My brain was racing..... started looking to replace MAF, MAP, O2 & VVT Sensors, then I ran into this video. IT WORKED, nice and smooth idle rpm! Thanks! P.S.: I tried to remove and clen MAP snesor and I stripped the mounting screws. Those 2 are one soft screws. I had to order the screws from dealer. Then I will remove the screws and clean MAP Sensor.
This fixed my 2008 Legacy. Battery connection was loose. After I tightened the terminal cable the car idled low at every stop light. After 3 days I began to become frustrated and saw this video. Thanks for the upload!
Although my car is a Lexus, I got the concept and it worked! Thank you, you always know that you can count on Subaru, because it's made with LOVE..... "Legacy's"
Brilliant! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on this. My 2003 Outback wanted to take off as soon as the engine started up. There was no need to use the accelerator around town. It was dangerous. Now all is well. It is behaving itself as it should do. Good on you McCauley!
@McCauleysAuto 2005 Forester 150K miles. I needed to do head gaskets, valve adjustment. I did the plugs, cleaned MAF, new air filter element and cleaned the throttle body off the car & new cat/exhaust. I changed #1 bank (out) O2 sensor "NGK". Idle was erratic upon completion of the aforementioned. This procedure was the cure! I owe you a debt of gratitude. Much thanks for your insightful post! Regards, RR
Thanks for this information. I thought I was in for at least a $500 repair. Did what you suggested and it worked great. 2010 Outback, 6speed, 254k miles. Still running strong!
@@Letsgetitgointlilcuz Unfortunately I sold it. It was a very reliable car. I had all the maintenance done bumper to bumper. Someone got a well sorted car. I really miss it.
I have a 2005 Subaru Forester XS. After resolving a CEL issue, the idle was extremely low and the engine stalled fairly frequently. Followed this advice to the letter and the idle is back to normal. Thank you!
This worked for me after pulling a couple plugs in the engine compartment, redoing spark plugs and di-electric freeze application and corrosion removal. I also cleaned the MAF which I think was the culprit. Thank you!!! Worked well for anyone stalling when you put the car in gear
Have an 09 Forester 2.5 NA as well. Car was parked for 6 weeks while I recovered from a surgery. When I charged the battery and started it up it ran like garbage. Idle had a mind of its own. Bogging right down at red lights or in reverse. Climbing like crazy when the AC compressor cut in causing it to speed up and slow down with the same throttle depression. It was very annoying. Thought I had bad gas so I got it down to half tank and filled with premium and dumped a bottle of injector cleaner in it. Still no luck. So I pulled everything thing off and cleaned the maf, changed the air filter and cleaned the throttle body as well. Still no luck. Decided to call it quits and take it to a mechanic to try and diagnose it correctly. One day before my appointment I stumbled across this video. Followed the steps exactly and it fixed the issue immediately! I didn't know there was a specific procedure for the relearn the first time so I just hopped in and went! I'm so glad I found this video. It likely saved me hundreds of dollars, and with all the extra stuff I did to try and fix it, the car is running better than it ever has! Thank you times a million for posting this. It helped me, and what seems to be many others as well! Cheers!
First off, thank you for the video. Out of the blue, my mom's 2015 Subaru Outback's engine started idling rough and she put it int Drive. I checked to see if there were any loose wires/rodent chewed wires/intake duct restrictions but couldn't find anything. The car has always been serviced at the Subaru dealership but even then, I found that both battery terminals were loose even though they were over tightened. On top of that, a "technician" apparently painted the terminals and clamps with some black paint and there was very little metal to metal connection. So I cleaned the terminals, bent the clamps so they wouldn't rotate when tightened and followed all the steps in the video. Worked like a charm.
I have a 2012 Subaru Legacy. The idle was bogging down a bit whilst first shifting into reverse, drive or when also making sharp turns whilst parking due to the drain of the power steering pump. I did the procedure outlined in the video and it certainly solved the issue. Thank you for the upload!
I recently noticed my 2016 Subie Impreza (base model) had been getting a subtle bit of a rumbling/shaking after a few seconds while waiting at the red light and would then go away. I read about the cleaning the throttle body, changing the air filter, and swapping the spark plugs but luckily I had my car's usual maintenance done and those things were all addressed so I got my car back (still had the rumbling/shaking), performed this procedure, did a test drive and BOOM...fixed! Thank you so very much for this!
The battery died on my 2010 forester, when I got it going again the car would stall at idle while driving!! Did this and it worked!! Farm out👍🏻 fantastic! UA-cam and all y’all contributors are awesome!
Thanks for sharing this information. I will definitely try this. 5 months ago spent $4000 on my 2005 Subaru Outback and it's now jerking around especially at idle. The shop wants another $100 just to look. I'm so upset, the vehicle is not even worth $6000 now and I can't imagine spending more. Had 1993 Subaru Impreza for 300,000 miles with No problems. So I bought another and this idle problem has always been there somewhat, but yeah, I hope this works! :) Not mechanically inclined, but this I can definitely try. Thank you so much!
Great vid ty!! Subaru forgot to add, stand on your head for 15 seconds, then jump up and do 25 jumping Jack's before running around the car 10x. 5x clockwise, then 5x counter clockwise.
I am crazy grateful for this suggestion. I've had my car serviced multiple times and they've never been able to solve this, usually just saying "that's how these older cars run". But I often found a loss of power when accelerating from a stop and a rough idle that would drop rpm to stalling. I followed these instructions exactly and it now runs absolutely perfectly.
2008 Forester XS 2.5 Manual with worsening rev hunting and bucking when slowing down. Car was a nightmare to drive. Tried this and now the whole car drives incredibly smooth with a great throttle response. Genuinely thank you as the car was becoming dangerous to drive!
2005 Subaru Forester. No turbo. This worked. Idle was just not quite right. Would go to 1200-1400 RPM while in park, go back down to 800, then back up some seconds later. It's fixed.
The steps shown here work for performing the idle relearn procedure on certain Subarus, but I would suggest making one important correction to Step 2. Disconnect the NEGATIVE battery terminal! you should never try to disconnect the positive terminal first as was demonstrated in the video. Always disconnect the battery starting with the negative terminal. Conversely any time you reconnect a battery the negative terminal should be the last terminal attached. Vehicle damage, property damage, and/or bodily injury may result if you inadvertently create a path for electricity to flow between the positive terminal and a chassis ground.
Radio and climate control are automatically off when you reconnect the battery regardless if you turned them off beforehand. This worked for me, even though a lot of people seem to be skeptics of this process.
I have a 2014 Subaru Outback and replaced the battery. Car died 4 times in 10 minutes on the way to my kids school and back home. I did this, PROBLEM SOLVED! Thank you!
Came for this fix and it worked. '10 Forester 2.5l 4spd auto w/101K mi, spark plugs and wires changed but had a low/rough idle near stalling, but fine at speed. Fair independent Mechanic didn't notice or know to reset idle. Subie forum described fix, video showed steps, and I just confirmed. Shortcut was I only disconnected battery for 25min. Followed rest of the steps. All good. 👍
While adjusting my clutch, I started the car with drive by wire disconnected causing terrible idle and stalls. This procedure fixed it immediately. Thanks.
This worked on my 2014 Impreza. I am honestly amazed at the difference. Saved me the cost of a tuneup which wouldn't have solved the problem anyway. Thank you!
I was experiencing a rough idle when I would come to a stop or if I was in park and turned my air conditioning off, yes that's right, off.. my oil temp light, AWD, and sport mode light would flicker while it happened. I was getting pretty worried, it's an 08 Impreza 2.5i automatic. I cleaned my throttle body, and then tried this and it's back to normal. Thank you so much for this video McCauley'S auto!
2012 wrx. Worked for me. My car was dropping idle at stops and going in reverse. Stalled a couple times as well. No more issue after following these steps.
Thank you so much for posting this. Worked perfectly on an '08 Legacy. After a plug and wire change, car was almost stalling at idle when coming to a stop. Followed your "relearn instructions". Back to normal.
I too thought that this was probably a big waste of time and just a gimmick..Boy was I wrong. Thank you as you saved my daughter $$$$$$$$. It worked perfectly!!!!
After much frustration during attempts to idle engine and at traffic lights, this procedure appears to have worked on my 2006 Subaru Forester. Much Appreciated!
Well, I'm shocked. Worked like a charm! A little advice to those without laptops... write down the directions instead of running in at every step to make 100% sure I followed it to a 't'. Didn't want to take a chance and have to start over. Lol.
I rarely comment but I HAVE to say this actually worked for me. I have a 2010 Forester and after having the airbags replaced I noticed it was being a bit funny when slowing down to a stop. I rang the service department at Subaru who said it shouldn't be an engine issue as the guy only disconnected the battery when replacing the airbag but to bring it in for them to take a look at it. Fearing they would charge me an arm and a leg to do so, I thought I'd try the internet first and found this video. I did the above procedure not having ANY expectations it would work but to my utter amazement ..it did! So thank you so much guys for sharing this info!!! I can sleep easy tonight.
worked for me ,thanks so much McCauley's and commenters here! My neighbor recommended this after I stopped by his house. he owns a WRX. So glad he shared this with me. Bless whoever shared this for all of us Subaru owners! 2008 Tribeca
Tried on my 2007 Outback 2.5 base. Idle was weird after tightening my AC tensioner that was likely loose for 3-4 months. Car was almost stalling at idle in gear. Worked wonderfully. Thank you!
This worked for me only after I cleaned the throttle body. 08 Legacy kept wanting to die at every stop. Changed the coil plugs and wires only to have it run worse. Cleaned the throttle body with new gasket and did this procedure. Now it runs remarkably great. If you try this and it doesn’t work clean your TB and repeat. Omg it actually worked
I own a 2003 Forester with a 2.5L NA engine with this problem. I compared pics of a Subie electronic throttle body with mine, and they look pretty different - mine might not be even "electronic." Still, I followed the procedure and surprisingly it delivered on idle smoothness. But during the '10 minutes test drive' step I noticed an issue: when I floored it, there was some misfiring and poor acceleration compared to before. So I turned the 10 min test drive into a 1 hour drive where I mixed normal driving with flooring it (either taking off from lights or entering a freeway). The acceleration characteristics got better and better over the course of the hour. By the end of the hour acceleration smoothness and power were excellent. I should add that with a mighty 110 kW "flooring it" will not exactly smoke up your tyres lol. I also noticed that engine start up and shutdown was very crisp when turning the key compared to before. Final test: I filled her up on regular 91 for a mileage test and it equaled the best efficiency I'd ever gotten out of the motor (9L/100 kM). I'm not a mechanic, I can only guess that the early gen computers were slower learners than more modern ones - if I change fuel octane I often get similar complaints from the motor until it gets used to it. Still, the "tweaked" version of the instructions in this vid worked very well for this YT random.
You are awesome for this video!!! Worked on my 08 Subaru Impreza without a flaw! I was so nervous I was going to have to spend more money to fix some thing else on my car, but this did the trick! Thank you so so much!
This has happened to our 2015 Forester twice now each time after cleaning the battery posts. The first time I did this reset procedure and it solved the problem. The second time it happened I was with a mechanic friend who immediately put his scanner tool on for error codes none were there. He did however override the rpm with his scanner tool ( the tool allowed him to tell the computer to run at 1000 - which it did ) then we shut the vehicle off. So far this also has fixed the problem with stalling and low idle. Hope this helps everyone out cheers
Hi - I replaced an alternator in a 04 Forester and when I hooked it back up I had an awful idle. I researched this and came across this video. Seems to have worked! Thanks for posting this!
Hi, I watched your post and after a couple of time doing the idle reset it idles great. Thank you for posting this because it help on my 2015 outback. I was scared it was going to cost me hundreds Which I don’t have. Now I need to clean the throttle body. Thank you from Southern California
2009 outback was Idling up and down and almost dying to at times when in park. Gave this a shot and so far so good! It’s crazy because I really thought this wouldn’t work and it’s amazing how common of an issue that it seems to be. Might I add that even my MPGs went up as well.
I can't believe this worked! Been rough idling for quite a while now - assumed it was dirty throttle body, injectors, failed coil etc. Hopefully it's not just masking a bigger issue for a short while. Thanks so much for posting this!
I have had no major issue with my 2009 Legacy 2.5i limited. (knock on wood). I just hit 108k miles so I decided to have some work done. I had the exhaust replaced and recently the catalytic converter. After the cat converter was replaced the car wouldn't run right. I had the check engine light, traction control and cruise control flashed with no use of cruise. The car would shake bad under 5mph. I watched this video, performed the steps and the car idles and runs like new again. I'm still surprised but wanted to share my results. 200K here I come.
Thanks for the video. Worked on a 2003 Subaru G3X justy. After changing the battery the idle was unstable, and it would stall if you went off the accelerator to quickly. Trying to hold the idle with the accelerator resulted in the check engine light to turn on. Now the car is back to normal and the owner is happy. Wonder how many Subaru/Suzuki mechanics has been sitting in these cars drinking coffee and looking at their clock while charging customer's for ecu idle re-calibration😂
totally works. Ihave a 08 outback that just came back from a day at the mechanic's, and the idle was too low too rough. Resetting the ECU as described here fixed it. Thank you.
Funktioniert an Impreza 2006 2.0R. Vielen Dank
I have been to 2 mechanics telling them my car would stall when coming to a stop. each time I left the mechanics claiming they have fixed it. It stalled out on the same day it was looked at! I tried this and it worked, every problem that I was having has gone and drives better then the day I got it. Subaru should make this known to the buyer or at least make it easier to find.
July 2024...2013 3.6R Outback. This 100% worked! I had to install a new battery and after it would stall when starting off working the shift at low RPM. Thank you so very much for posting..Matt Auckland, New Zealand. 🙏🙏👍
I never believed this "remove battery" stuff. I had idle problem since I bought my Legacy Outback 1999 2,5 petrol/gas. I own it for 1 week now. When I was stopping, my engine revved up from 2000 to 3000 rpm. It was annoying. When rpms dropped, it dropped not to 600-700 but 1200-1300. Check engine was coming up frequently. I checked vacuum hoses, connectors. There wasnt a difference. I did what this tutorial showed. I drove 25km outside city, about 10km in city and for now I wasnt noticing anything strange or mistical revving. Hope it stays like that.
Hola soy de Chile, seguí el tutorial paso a paso y para mi sorpresa si funciono en mi auto subaru legacy awd 2.0 2000, te agradezco que compartas tus conocimientos! Gracias!!!!
Thanks for the reminder ,I had read about the reset sequence but was't quite sure of how long to wait. Didn't wait the 30 minutes after disconnect only 3 minutes and it worked. Once again THANKS!
Nice vid...ironically my swapout of an assumed bad coil didn't do any good for bad idling and stuttering during acceleration...tried this trick. Didn't realize my idle was out of whack this whole 6 years I've owned a 2009 outback. Fixed the idle for sure!! But still having stuttering with acceleration so perhaps on to spark plug swap or even fuel pump/filter change.
This works. After changing my knock sensor on '13 Legacy it was idling rough pretty much on verge of stalling. This method got rid of that and car runs normally now. Thanks!
Wow.. thank god for you sir... and thank god for UA-cam. I was having a really rough idle in my 15 WRX and was worried what it was or going to cost to fix. I just followed these instructions step by step and the car is purring like a kitten again. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I am beyond relieved. ✌🏻👍🏻
Thanks for this video! I’m letting it run for the 10 now! I have changed plugs, wires, coil pack, cleaned MAF sensor, was getting ready to try to clean IAC with sea foam tomorrow, dreading buying another MAF sensor, very expensive. I hope this works! I’ll let y’all know. Thank you for a non intrusive or costly solution (or possible solution)!!
Hey Good man thx a lot you are the best. I'm the owner of 3 Subarus great cars by the way. you saved me a lot of money. your tricks really worked out pretty good. now my car is as new.
2014 Subaru Forester - went through the process and it worked. I'm grateful to have the racing at start-up finally resolved. Overall that car has been a major disappointment with having Subaru replace the engine due to the oil leak lawsuit, the transmission value failure, recall and replacements of the rear spring, and replacing all the wheel bearings. I swear they used to say Subaru were reliable and I fell for it. Would never buy another one or recommend it to anyone.
Yes but the music is way too loud
2008 wrx, built and pro tuned here:
had the same issue, downshifting and coming to a stop my car would just barely not stall out every single time.
@@masterofpk1Having the same issue, did it work?
Tell me about the drivers window fix please
@pamelavance648
Not sure if you found the fix or not yet, but what you do is:
1. Start the car, keep it in park
2. On the front passenger door, put the window all the way down and continue holding the button down for 5 seconds
3. Let go of the switch very briefly
4. Put the window all the way up and continue holding for 5 seconds
If your issue was a simple reset requirement due to an unhooked battery, glitch, whatever - it should be fixed
Doing this procedure on the front passenger door switch is required for it to work
Thanks so much!
Thank you.
The music made my ears bleed.
Volume off is the only logical choice but a great step by step indeed.
All steps to make the bleeding stop could be found in the description :)
Me and my daughter had a dance party. Shes 4.
You're going to complain about free car help that actually works? Shut the fuck up. Seriously. How ungrateful.
I wish I was deaf
Thanks for posting - was looking to see if anyone had tried it with 2011 Outback.
I too have an 2011 Outback Impreza Sport. Currently running the car for the final 5 minutes. Let's hope it works.
Anyway after some searching on the forum, I found I just needed to clean my MAF and perform this procedure.
same story here this guy is good. saved me a lot of money too.
@@criznitty hi , what is MAF?

I was skeptical but this worked perfectly on my 2010 forester!
So, after ECU reset you should:
1. Clear throttle body
The 2 bolt piece is loosened with a few turns, and part twists at that point.
german996 I have the same problem with my 2006 Subaru legacy gt im going to try this tomorrow hope it works
Chase Justice did it work?
Good on you McCauley!
sounds kind of fun, like an untamed horse
@McCauleysAuto
2005 Forester 150K miles.
Bought a new battery and my idle was off. I thought about the throttle position sensor then I found this God send. Do it like he says and it works.
Mine is a 2013 outback 2.5i manual
Was ur engine light on as well?
Havin issues with my outback as we zpeak
This did indeed smooth out the idle on my 02 Legacy.
my 02 aus B4 / Rsk lib is doing this atm i hope it will fix it,
Worked for 2004 subaru forester. Had isolated IACV as issue and replaced it but couldn't find out how to calibrate. This video is a savior!!!
After replacing and adjusting my throttle position sensor my idle became erratic.
I just carried out this procedure and so far so good, cheers
You won’t get hurt from a car battery, unless you’re made of metal.
Thank you!
My '05 Forester EJ25 was idling below 500. I didn't think this hocus-pocus would work but it is now idling smooth at 750-800. Thanks!
Well, I'm shocked. Worked like a charm! A little advice to those without laptops... write down the directions instead of running in at every step to make 100% sure I followed it to a 't'. Didn't want to take a chance and have to start over. Lol.
Just tried it on my '13 Subaru Outback. Worked great. Idle runs like it should now.
2014 outback this step by step method seems to have worked. The car is running much better. Thank you for piosting this.

@@deirdre1905TB is Throttle Body
Thats where im at i hope its not masking another issue cuz it cpuld be o2 censors or solenoid driver side
I have had no major issue with my 2009 Legacy 2.5i limited. (knock on wood). I just hit 108k miles so I decided to have some work done.
Loved the video and step-by-step instructions. Easiest thing I've done on my car besides cleaning the outside windows -- thank you!!
Did this on the wife's '11 Outback, cleaned the MAF and the throttle body at the same time too. Car is back running like a champ! Thanks!!!
Was it stalling at stop sign when pushing brakes hard ?
Funktioniert an Impreza 2006 2.0R.
Vielen Dank
Someone give this man a medal 😎
worked great on my 06 outback 2.5i. thanks for the post
Did every step and it worked on my 21 WRX. My low idle was all F’ed up and bugging the hell out of me it’s fixed she’s running great now.
Gracias!!!!
Thank you so much! You saved me a trip to the dealership! Car idles great now.
Ps. The song sucks.
I went to the dealership and aid 500 dollars they worked on my car for 5 days then guess what, after 100km driven problem appeared again.
Thanks for the reminder ,I had read about the reset sequence but was't quite sure of how long to wait. Didn't wait the 30 minutes after disconnect only 3 minutes and it worked. Once again THANKS!
Changed the battery on my 2014 Forester, and was having stalling issues and inconsistent throttle. This fixed it! Thanks
Thanks!
Had this problem for a week on my 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5i I followed every set as instructed and it worked! Thank you!
This fixed my 2008 forester , it now purs like a kitten. 2 years dealing with this and i fixed it in 20 minutes, thank you!
Wow.. thank god for you sir... and thank god for UA-cam. I was having a really rough idle in my 15 WRX and was worried what it was or going to cost to fix. I just followed these instructions step by step and the car is purring like a kitten again. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I am beyond relieved. ✌🏻👍🏻
JLethal 2 how’s the car for you now? I’m
Having rough idle issues now.
After market MAF sensor is $25 for my 2006 Impreza. It is not oem but I don't want to spend $200.
Did it work?

this was so super spot on and helpful to fix my daughters 2006 subaru outback 2.5 idling issue. THANK YOU SO MUCH
Just wanted to say thanks. Got some good information here, and the music made me really motivated to punch a hole in my monitor.
