As a professional cabinet installer, I have to say, I love this shelf design. So many prefab shelves have no thought put into how theyre gonna stay up on the wall. Im talking 40 pound corbels that are supposed to hang off drywall. The boxes are a brilliant solution to that. Also, your walls are really nice, much closer to square than most of the ones we work on. The solutions you were talking about are stuff we have to do on every job
Four Eyes, is one of the few people that I’m excited to see how they would put their own touch and style into a build that’s been done a million times. Chris, never disappoints.
For the concave wall, the trick I've seen people use is to trace it with a washer and a pencil. You put the tip of the pencil inside the washer, use pressure to hold both against the wall, then roll the washer along the wall.
How do you ensure your plywood doors don't warp? Warping has been the bane of all my plywood projects so far. I love your content! Keeps me entertained and inspired!
Came out great! Regarding cut arrangement for efficiency, My hardwood dealer lets me use their panel saw no charge. My cabinet cut list is now organized on half sheets of Baltic. It's not material efficient, but it's stress free handling and transporting 5x5.
Thanks for confirming what I thought was my own, unique way of of generating cut sheets and processing full sheets. Because of my work and experience, I use 3ds max in a very similar way that you use SketchUp, along with my track saw (rough cut) , MFT (cross cutting) and table saw (ripping). Great minds think alike!
Hey Chris, superb work as always. I like how you always put so much thought into your projects and give your reasons for doing them. I'd like to offer a small critique and a solution that was actually inspired by you. The ugly blocking for the shelves is often a necessary evil as it is in this case. At 15:26 of your video you highlighted a spacer that was used to mount the blocking for the shelf. My thought is to let the spacer be permanent. It would take the place of the blocking and add some color to a drab corner. By using another spacer on the short wall as well you could color them to mirror the color of the boxes. Anyway just a thought, keep up the good work.
Holy cow @12:25 I thought there was a new person in the shop, but realized it was Chris without a hat! Nice build, great tips im gonna use on my next project
I’m in the planning stage of my second van build, and for cabinet and countertop material I keep coming back to Baltic Birch. In your project I really like the cut-outs for the door pulls, and the simplicity of the pulls themselves. That design is modern and clean, but best of all there are no protruding door pulls, which in the tight quarters of a van could catch on clothing or even bruise legs. Actually I’d like to have mostly drawers rather than doors, but I still think I can use that cut-out design for drawer pulls. I also like your use of color on the inside of those upper boxes and the door pulls. I’ve been thinking of painting the exterior sides of the drawer boxes so that when you open a drawer you see the color, but when it’s closed you see the unpainted birch ply. I have been thinking of using one or two colors, but after seeing your video I’m considering a 4-color motif :) I’ll probably be in the design phase for another six months, still tons of decisions to make, but I’m feeling pretty solid about the cabinetry :)
Great build and quite innovative. I just upgraded to the same pocket hole jig. I’m building a set of cabinets that go underneath a mobile work table and it’s all constructed with pocket holes. I was curious why you needed to drill horizontal. I know the jig supports it but haven’t seen a need for it.
Do you mean why I'd rotate the jig 90º? For these panels you wouldn't need to. But on larger ones sometimes...so I was just kind of testing how it works. I actually put up a group of stories on Instagram today. Check that out, and it will explain more.
Not often one hears 'aforementioned' in a woodworking video (4:41). :) Good solution to the 'long span with no support' problem. Helps me with something similar. Thanks!
Loving the VW Caddy!!! Wow. Beautiful. An old man like me and I don't think I've ever seen one of those before. :) Can you guys get any cooler? I don't think so.
I know this is an older video, but just a tip for future reference. Use scrap plywood or MDF to get wall contours and use that for a pattern or router template for a better fit. But awesome job all the same! I enjoy y'all's channel!
I totally resonate with this! The development of the design through the graphics and the continued process and transition of thought throughout the build and especially the way all of that is presented in video is what makes watching so worthwhile.
In the past I have been watching videos by both Shaun and Chris, and still assuming they are they same guy as they look a bit same and are doing very similar things. In this and previous video even when I saw them in the same image I still thought he's doing some funky video-editing making himself appear twice, but finally I got it, you're different guys. What is funny that you did find each other!
Got this trough youtube algorithm and I was amazed from the get go! What apps/programs/tools do you use to make stuff like at 0:26 and 0:58? I am always amazed how easy and versitile plywood can be! but where I live, plywood is not really common, so the prices are either way to high or the quality is crap...
Fun to see combination of Different brands interchanging with the Festool items... I didn't know about the kreg adaptive cutting system and saw. Went to check it out online and it looks like a sort of improvement to the Festool MFT/3 table.
I'm always blown away by the beauty of the plywood you use. It looks so well milled.... Is it a specific type/brand that can be acquired at the big-box stores like Home Depot, or is it better to find a local mill/company?
@@Foureyes.Furniture did you experience the inflated pricing for sheet goods ? How has the current time affected your projects? Lol I’m watching all these great videos but these projects are cost prohibitive now 😞
Chris i found a great app that i use regularly. its called CutList Optimizer. it costs a couple bucks on the google app store but you put in your available stock pieces and then your required cuts it then makes a graphical layout of the most efficient way to cut your stock to minimize material loss. I HIGHLY recommend it. I hope you see this as it will save you a ton of material in the long run. (please like in hopes he sees this)
I love this and I want to create something like this for my bathroom. Do you maybe have the color numbers you used for the cutout handles? Many thanks.
As an ex cable tech, I'd be careful about how tight of a turn you have your coax take when you take it along the baseboard. If it's too tight, you'll push the center conductor a lot closer to the shielding on the outside, and it can cause impedance mismatch and weird reflection noise issues. TBH if you're coming up through the floor already, I'd recommend just going back under the crawl and coming up inside of the cabinet anyway. You're call though! Just thought I'd mention it. Keep doing the awesome stuff.
You always have the most amazing builds. Very exact measurements and cuts, thoroughly explained and great editing. But am I the only one that doesn't like exposed plywood lol. Beautiful work! Love the colors! Ps. I need you to make baby crib plans! We're expecting :)

Absolutely!
In Four Eyes fashion, the whole build has a different look to it that separates it from others.
Those door pulls and cutout are so simple and elegant. Beautiful work.
Thanks so much! 😊
I thought they added just the right amount of "not plain looking-ness"
For the concave wall, the trick I've seen people use is to trace it with a washer and a pencil. You put the tip of the pencil inside the washer, use pressure to hold both against the wall, then roll the washer along the wall.

Lining up the edges of that opening with the inside edges of the box is a fantastic detail. Looks great, as always.
Looks great Chris! I like how you were able to keep the design open and not obstruct the light from the knockout in the wall.
Thanks. Yeah...I was happy with the "open-ness" that remained. Can never really tell until it's built

Looks awesome Chris! Love the inset on the counter top instead of the doors, very cool!
Thanks!

Very nice design there. It turned out very unique and nice. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friends. Keep Making. God Bless.
