So just an FYI. This will be the first year that the Michters 10 will be their own distillate. So going forward, I believe will be the make or break for them with this product line. So, be ready for fall!! It should be fun to see what they’re going to put out.
Wow! Erin gave such tremendous insight to her perspectives on these blinds. I really really like having these different view points. It helps me on decisions with spending my limited money on bourbons. Believe me, I’d like to buy them all, but that’s just not in the budget. So I really appreciate your channel and especially your wife’s viewpoints. Her thought process really resonates with my wallet ;)

I appreciate both of your takes when evaluating the bottles. In this instance, I am in the space of the ONLY way I would pay $200 for 1 bottle of whiskey is that I had someone I know would do this: they promised to pay me $300 for that bottle if I had it to sell them. 🤣
Orphan Rhetoric was the bottle that got me into bourbon when it was given to me as a gift in 2016ish. A few years ago I looked to get another bottle and almost fell over with the new cost.

Never had any Orphan Barrel, never bought into the "found lost barrels" story. Maybe my loss. Michter's on the other hand has been a fav for a long time. Michter's is distilling their own juice but it's not old enough to go into the 10 year and older bottlings. Michter's has a very low barrel entry proof which is why it tastes better than other lower proof whiskies. I was able to do a private tasting at Christmas of 13 Michter's expressions including 10 year bourbon & rye, barrel strength bourbon & rye, toasted barrels, four 20 year bourbons and a 25 year bourbon. The 10 year bourbon compared very well against the older bottles although the 2019 20 year and the 25 year were the favorites. It wasn't blind so there could have been label bias. I was able to buy the '23 10 year bourbon last month for $150 (1 bottle limit) so you don't have to spend a fortune.

I was fortunate to participate in Nathan Jurgenson's 2024 Advent Calendar, and the Michter's 10 was my Christmas Eve pour. I fell in love with that, and I'm gonna get myself a bottle. Maybe I'll find one at the distillery when we go in May. 🤞🙏 And if the Rhetoric is that good, I need to try that too!
Can someone go back into the database and see what is the most expensive bottle Erin has ever given a thumbs up too. The fact she gave a second thought to glass 2 at 200 bucks almost made me drop my phone.
I paid $300 for a 2024 Michter’s 10 just because I never got one before. Not too upset with that purchase.

One of my local stores got in the 2024 Michter’s 10 year bourbon. I think they priced it wrong because I got it for $150. Very good whiskey. Their 10 year rye is very good also

I appreciate what you guys do, I'm with Erin, not paying $200 for any bottle. Not when you can buy a bottle like Chattanooga 111 for $41.99, or JD SB BP bourbon and Rye for $54, or Old Forester 1920 and Rare Breed for under $50. I'm ok with great bottles for great prices.
Where do you see those bottles for those prices?!?

At MSRP michters 10 very rarely misses for me personally
My favorite whisky in the world is Balcones Texas Pot Still Bourbon - when it's at its best. There was a spell when for three bottles in a row it was merely very good bourbon, but not the best in the world; my current bottle (the seventh overall) is firing on all cylinders and it's SUPERB. Yet it's only 92 proof and $30. Alas, Balcones isn't making bourbon anymore, so in a year or so (IIRC) they'll ship the last of it. 😭
Maybe one of these days, when the budget and my inclinations align, I'll try Michter's 10 year. And maybe then I'll alter my views. 🙂
MT 10yr is 184 plus tax retail in NC ... that's pass when there are other 10yrs at $55-100
Cmon Josh - hopefully you're aware of Michter's lower barrel entry proof and how that translates into the spectacular 10 year offerings. I love the bourbon and will pay $250 on sight for that bottle - but l love the 10 year rye even more. I agree with Breaking Bourbon - it's the "king of ryes". Enjoy.
