Felt there could have been a bit more on Madonna!! But v interesting doc, and I loved all these fab female artists, but Grace Jones and Madonna such trailblazers! C5 I think aired a doc about Cher, which was fascinating.
I was on a flight from Houston to Milwaukee and she was ahead of me and I did not realize but moving the air vent I must have pointed it at her head and when we were getting off the plane her hair was all messed up and I was not going to point it out to her. I never forgot the feeling of o my god I just messed up Grace Jones hair.
The World...doesn't even know what to do with her, but to let her do what she wants...she goes her own way. Her intro to the music industry, started w/ disco. But what set her apart from anyone in the business at that time, was how she took the "runway image" and melded it to her musical image. And the rest is history. The fact that she hasn't won any of America's music industry awards, is pathetic, in light of how many performers have won Grammys and didnt deserve them. Ive gotten a lot of flack from friends or even posters on YT, for saying in so many words, that Madonna can't carry Grace's handbag....Grace, is just a better performer than Madonna, in my opinion. And I draw that comparison, because its women like Madonna, Lady GaGa, Lizzo, Missy Elliott, Macy Gray and Rihanna, that are walking the path that Grace forged. And some of them don't even know it. Grace is 70 plus, yrs old....she needs to be recognized for her incredible contributions to music. I will always be a fan...and I thank God, I was privileged to see her in concert some yrs ago.
GRACE..is one of the most influential artists in pop culture...a true pop culture ICON !!!!
She's actually a great singer, It is hidden in much of her material. She can sing anything.
