Yeah, it really did get better, haha. Finished my first playthrough not too long ago and started my second one after it and it's going so much smoother already.

This music is excellent to use for running to. The beat is just at that pace where you can keep going efficiently and consistently, while feeling pumped up to run for as long as you possibly can.

Mania Mode: ok (insert player name), there’s enough big rings and the special stages take practice but are decently challenging and fair
Encore Mode: YOU BETTER HOPE KNUCKLES DOESN’T PASS OUT FROM RUNNING AT MACH 3 FOR 5 MINUTES STRAIGHT.
Encore's final Special Stage is an absolute nightmare. Almost saw the sunrise finishing that one.
Catch the UFO! Get Blue Spheres to speed up! Collect Rings to increase the clock. Taking damage will cause you to drop some rings. Run out of rings or fall off like a dope and you'll be kicked out without the emerald. Normal mode's special stages aren't too difficult, but Encore mode's special stages will put you to the test. Want those emeralds? *Earn them.*

1st Emerald: Easy as pie
2nd Emerald: Not easy but definitely not hard
3rd Emerald: Just a little ridiculous
4th Emerald: A decent challenge but easy overall
5th Emerald: Fucking Pain
6th Emerald: Wtf so easy lmao

This is actually perfect for a game show.
Who knew that the Soundtrack to a Bonus Stage could be so good? Classic Sega and their way with music.
Keeping the Time Limit high? Pretty easy for the most part as long as you avoid losing rings.
Jumping holes? Not too hard unless they’re bunched together.
Avoiding the edge of the map when the barrier is absent? I hated it on the later stages.
Ah... yes... the Special Stages that made me rage in frustration and anger.

The special stage music from sonic cd, sonic colors ds, sonic heroes, sonic mania and sonic cd come from a long dead music genre called 4beat Hardcore. Actually sonic team is pretty much the only guys making music from this genre nowadays. It doesn’t even have an underground presence anymore. Something I find interesting about this is that the sonic generations special stage song (which is a remix of Sonic Heroes Special Stage Theme) is UK Hardcore. Which is a subgenre of a subgenre of 4beat. The parent subgenre of course being happy hardcore. The reason I wanted to talk about this is because segs is pretty much the only people making full on songs of this genre, not counting UK hardcore producers like S3RL, Alaguan, Eufeion, and so on and so fourth. I just think it’s really neat that they managed to kind of modernize a genre who’s inventors deemed it as unfit for the rapidly evolving electronic music family.
