  • Once renowned for its legendary catches of Cod, among other species, the Clyde estuary, in its heydays of the 60s and 70s, was the jewel in the crown of Scottish marine fisheries. Today, unfortunately, those days are, for those able to remember, a very distant memory, and any sign of a true recovery is nowhere in sight.
However, rather than dwell in times gone by, it’s imperative that we appreciate the positives, no matter how small they may be, and the Clyde estuary still has a lot to offer the angler. One attractive trait of this world-famous stretch of water, is the sheer number of species that can be found, and within easy reach of the opportunist angler. These species may not be all big, nor as culinarily attractive as a table fish, but the Clyde is an ideal, easy access venue for an LRF approach.
In this episode, the simple aim is to have some fun on light gear and just see what’s about.

I'm old enough to remember the halcyon days of the Firth, the Gantocks was a famous mark, and I think the Scottish record cod came from there. Helensburgh and Craigendoran piers used to regularly throw up big doubles, but the death of the Herring fishery spoiled it, no food, no Cod. Love all these wee species you've been catching, anyone seeing them for the first time would think they were some sort of rare exotic. Surprised you haven't caught the dreaded Weever fish!

Sometimes I like a good species trip than a specimen trip. It’s a dream of mine to fish chesil beach in Dorset cause that has some cracking variety but I think you beat it. Best species vid I seen for chesil was 9 species in a session. You guys had 10 but I’m surprised you didn’t get a gurnard or a coalie or even a little butterfish and just thought even no doggies, heck as I write and think there’s ton of variety in Scotland, scrap Dorset I always liked Scotland more anyways. Keep up the good work guys. I wonder if you guys could hunt down a shore caught ling round your neck of the woods perhaps a wee challenge is in store for a future video 🤷‍♂️

The east coast is the best place for cod over winter. Arbroath is really popular but lots of places along the coast. If you go to World Sea Fishing Forum and go to the Scotland sub section you will see lots of posts

Thanks lads. Lovely video made in an equally lovely part of the world. Your video clearly shows, and shares, the joy of fishing. Especially when it is happening on a clear, calm day in Scotland. I look forward to the next one.
