  • I had this issue of water/soap overflowing and leaking out of the dispenser. I traced the issue down to the liquid detergent cup. In this video I'm showing you how the siphoning mechanism broke. I got the replacement part from Amazon.

Just to be clear - I'm not promoting any product here. (I don't get any money from the Amazon link in the description.) It seems people had success by just thoroughly cleaning the pieces. Good for them! Please try other methods in the comments!! I was just demonstrating what's happening in there. That's all. Cheers!

Thank you! I tried all the suggestions in the comments, cleaning in how water, vinegar, turning white piece quarter turn, but ended up just buying a new one. Good job with the clear, short, informative video!

Thanks, I've looked at all sorts of other fixes, when this is probably the issue. I've found standing water in that after the washer is done. After reading some of the other comments and looking at your test, it seems that white piece being firmly in place is the answer. Apparently it must work itself loose so it doesn't always stay down. It does seem hit or miss, but every time I push down on it during testing it will restart the siphon action. I'm going with the new one too.

I just tested out out myself and I think this is the answer, it needs a tight vacuum seal to suck the water into the pipe, if it’s loose at all it won’t work properly

Thanks I'm having the same problem with the water not draining all the way . I will try getting a new fabric softener cup to see if that fixes the problem .

Thank you for the clear video showing how this works. I opted to KISS and just remove the main detergent siphon tray. I don't want water leaking inside the cabinet and rusting everything in there. Some of my other washers don't even have it and after testing confirmed to its not needed (like my other washers.)

The first container did not form a air tight seal when the white spigot was pressed down. The full water drain uses a siphon pressure to pull all the water out of the container. Similar to what they use in aquarium tanks when they drain out the tank water. However? If the bottom of the siphon is worn out or not sealing properly, it will not drain out the water.
The other reason can be that overtime from use the top of the spigot is pressing onto the escape tube rendering it slow or not enough space to use gravity to pull out more than a small amount of water. The washer water has to have the right amount of pressure in order to full empty the container. If at any point where there is a bottle neck (like the top flat of the spigot) or a worn out spigot (like on the bottom edge) the force needed to pull the water out is diminished.

Thanks for adding more scientific explanation. Makes perfect sense!

This makes sense to me!! I've tried everything and even bought a new dispenser. If I leave my dispenser drawer slightly open- no more leakage. This must somehow change the internal pressure and allow the syphon to work more easily??

So the fix is that you completely replaced the part. Got it.

I had same problem and found that there is a tiny drain hole that gets clog in the back right side of the stem for the main drain, I took a toothpick and opened the hole seems to be fine now

Thank you! I'm having trouble with bleach dispenser doing the same thing. This helps me to understand what should be happening and how the machine works.

I had the same problem with my last LG washer, and now have same problem with "re-designed" detergent cup in my BRAND NEW LG washer. The fact that it's intermittent drives me nuts. With the new machine, it seems like simply pulling the entire detergent drawer out a couple of times can be enough to re-start the siphoning. yeah, I got a "C" in physics...

thanks, great info. I couldn't figure out why i had water leaking from the same place, even though I had cleaned the parts.

Thanks, very helpful. I have same problem with a used washer I just bought. Leaked horribly from this one area. Will try to fix as no appliance repair people are available.

Does this amazon site has the white wider part? How and where did you get this white part? This is what i am looking for. My washer seem to be missing the dispener when we got the washer. Your video showed us this which is very effective, thank you!

      Hi Punky Richey!
I believe the white and blue parts are sold as a single part. I'm not sure if they sell only the white part. Good luck!

Choonik Lee ok. The link u gave shows only regular size. How did you find this big size as shown in video, is that the link? The link showed picture regular size.

I have order the part from the website. The Amazon picture may not show the exact part that I'm showing in the video. But that's what they shipped. I'm guessing, but I don't think the width of the white part actually makes difference. Good luck!

Or you could carefully disassemble it, clean out the clogged detergent buildup, and put it back together. Takes five minutes and you don't have to buy anything.

It's physics :) as soon as you have cup overflow it will pull the rest of the water out. Depends on diameter and space between white cup and inner cylinder from the tray. Before buying new one try this : ua-cam.com/video/C_YbVq2OBtc/v-deo.html
Hope this would help in a lot of cases.

KIM JONG UN thanks for the comment. You may be right. I can’t confirm at the moment since the old one is gone. But what I can confirm is I have had zero problem so far with this redesigned dispenser. Same soap, same water, zero problem. Peace ✌️
