It’s better than that bronco guy and wavy boats. Good voice and commentary. I subscribed cause I like watching people do stupid things they shouldn’t. 😮
Hilarious bro! "There's a plethora of things that could happen right here". That's some solid vocab work, Big Dan. btw, been boating up here in Ontario Canada for 20 years and I've never seen power loading to be illegal ever. Keep up the good work.
Proper depth on the trailer is the key. So many people don't spend the time to figure that out. It will save a lot of hassle and possible damage if you can figure that out.
This ramp is a little steeper by several degrees than most, actually is easier to load being this steep once one figures it out. It does change your marks if you've gotten use to them on less steep ramps. Personally, my favorite ramp is about the same degree as this. With the smaller boat I can launch/load with the short tongue and not even get the rear tire saltwater wet, nor the full tongue, wiring. My friends favorite ramp, with my smaller boat I stop with the water under the front of the door frame. His tongue is ridiculously long though. His 19' skiff trailer is 4' longer than mine for the KW263, or his dads Kl 26'.
It's so interesting watching these videos. Love the channel man just subbed. I have to say as a boat owner for 3 years why don't people take the time to learn how to trailer the boat. Ask a buddy to show you, watch some UA-cam videos, and take your time. Before I launched my boat for the first time I had a very experienced buddy show me how to launch and recover my boat 4 times before attempting it. Biggest things I've learned take your time and think through the whole process, even make a check list if you need to. Thanks for doing this man. It helps a TON to have a resource like this to continue learning how to operate safely.
I fished alot of bass tournaments back in the day and people at the boat ramp where amazed at how fast we could launch a boat, and load a boat back on the trailer. Once the tires hit the ramp 2min. tops maybe even less.
Unhook winch, back boat in water with operator, park truck, walk back to dock and get in boat. It doesn’t even take 1 minute of ramp time. Edit: boat operator moves boat the hell out of the way until truck guy is at dock
I tell everyone new to backing any type of trailer to hold the bottom center of the steering wheel and turn that hand the direction you want the trailer to go. Great content!
Love the channel! All these people remind me of the episode of family guy where Peter tries to launch his boat but ends up driving the whole car and boat in the lake.
Hi Dan, great channel thanks. Here in New Zealand it is illegal to power load a boat, least of all jump off when its running. Keep up the good work, Cheers, Bryce 🙂
Hey Big Dan - Tip from Canada on backing trailer up - - Put your hand palm facing down but on bottom of steering wheel, then move your hand in the direction you want the trailer to go.....Just as if you were backing up without a trailer and your hand on top of wheel. Taught many a newbie that way and usually works out eventually :)
Crazy stuff! I am a new boater in NC out of Topsail. Not new to boating (Long Island GSB). I have learned a lot from the show and I appreciate what you do. Keep recording man!
G'day Big Dan Australian ole Gal just become a big Fan of yours. Love your commentaries, make me laugh. Thanks for a giving us a Show of good Superb Quality. Keep em coming and I am awatching. ❤
This is the 3rd video I've watched. You are great!!!! I enjoy your commentary. It's great to have a host that knows what he's talking about. I'm now subscribed. Thank you & get that trailer deeper in the water, you know all the way up to the ratchet strap wintch 🤣🤪👍
I am new to boating. But I watched a ton of Big Dan videos before I even launched my boat for the first time. Learned ALOT before I even launched my boat for the first time watching his videos.
I’ve never ran a boat onto a trailer. But I would imagine it’s a lot of feel for the way the water is moving and the wind. And it looks like you need some luck. Lol. Super fun to watch. I feel really bad for the people that run into problems. I have family on Pensacola beach so watching makes me feel a little closer than being stuck in Ohio. Well done sir on the videos
Funny, in the pnw rarely you see guys firin up and reversing off the trailer. Ramp time is sacred. Load your crap in the parking lot, plug in, tail ties off, back her down the ramp tilnthe tires are in the water, buddy grabs bow line, and you back up the rig n let her skate off, buddy pulls her down thw dock and ties off while you get that truck n trailer the heck off the ramp, other folks are waitin! Fire up the motor(s) after the trucks parked
I ❤️ what u said what u hav learned over the years … Bc it took me years to learn how to back up our boat trailer but I didn’t learn n a crowded boat ramp 😂
At 25:00, the black flag boat has a rolled up mat on the back. Seen a few of these in Big Dan's videos. Can anyone tell me what they're for? I'm sure I will smack my head when I find out...
The first boat that wanted it straight. I put a chunk of chain with a hook that was about a foot too long. Hook it up. Drive up to the parking lot. Then, winch it up to the lock. It will self center.
I know this video is old but I just found this big dan show,, crazy I never knew there was so many inexperienced boaters out there,, but the part of the show I like is he seems to be knowledgeable of the type of boats they're driving their Motors and how to operate them properly
Got an 18’ pontoon, best thing I’ve learned is to anticipate where it’s gonna go. They’re so tall and wide, they act as sails. That added with current, give yourself some room to drift. Once your bow is snugged on, just ride it in
Question, is there a spot somewhere that someone can be dropped off the retrieve the tow vehicle other than the docks? My boat ramp doesn't have that. I usually tie up to the dock and retrieve the truck myself, then just back the trailer under the boat and crack her in.
Hey Dan is there anyway you could do a picture and picture screen so we can see two boats at once you do have 2 camera right ? If so you should be able to do a picture and picture screen .
Keep it up. Doing great. And I like this change of scenery a lot more. Film here more often please. (And ignore the negative posts. They’re probably just jealous that you can take the time to do this)
I'm looking forward to that video where you show the proper way to load and unload a boat. I just bought my first boat, and I really don't want to end up on your channel since I'll be around your area. Unless it was on a good note.

They spend that Homeland security money like an open checkbook!
Like what he said. We’ve got a 24’ Everglades and our trailer floats it’s a little more difficult but if you know how to back em in and you don’t back that trailer wayyyyy into the water it’ll never float
@@Esteban_Herrera I always back the trailer to where the read axle is under and the front tires are about half way up with water get it as far up on the trailer as you can then back down til the front axles under and pull up the rest of the way. Works like a charm everytime
I find when reversing a trailer, only turn the steering wheel 1/2 a turn at a time, take your time works fairly well. What do you think? Cheers, Kiwi Bryce 🙂

That’s a busy ramp. Only one I’ve seen busier was at lake oroville when they ordered everyone to evacuate the lake. I’ve seen fist fights at the bidwell marina there
Tips on backing a trailer first turn off the backup camera use the mirrors second turn your steering wheel the way you want the front of your trailer to go third find a large parking lot and practice and remember the shorter the trailer the faster it will turn
Love your channel, but don't ever think you've seen or done it all. We are natives of a coastal NC fishing village that our ancestors have always been . My father -in-law and husband have a combined total of about 70 years of commercial fishing, Coast Guard and tugboat Captain and engineering. They swear the next generation is coming up with stuff that makes them afraid and they've had some idiots to deal with. Just some information I found while doing genealogy, one of my great grandfather's and their sons worked for the U.S.L.S.S. in Chicamacomico NC. Love your commentary 😅 Give 'em hell!!
I notice a lot of people just pull out without hooking up safety chain or strap at bow. I’ve seen boats roll/slide off and damage transom a few times in our area because of this.
I feel like im doing things wrong after seeing so many people power drive up there boat. Although certain boat launches in Michigan dont allow it. Ive only owned my 21-foot boat for one season. Launched and retrieved over 20 times. But never had the problems these people have. We approach the dock. I slowly creep in. My girl and i reach for the posts and hold the boat steady. She gets out on the dock with the rope connected to the bow eyelet. Wraps it once around a post near the front. Then i get out to go get the trailer while she simply hold the back of the boat in place. I pull in fenders and tips of bunks at top of water. Get out. My girl tosses me the rope from the dock. I physically pull the boat on the bunks till it stops about a foot or 2 from the winch. Strap it up. Then whench it up tight. Pull out slowly. If my trailer is close. The process takes no more than 60 seconds. Idk..... please tell me if im doing something wrong. I do get my ankle wet just to pull the rope in. But never had a problem so i stuck with it. About to winterize next week.
Nice. Nothing wrong with that if it works for you. Power loading is a thing of the south. It’s just what we do round here and it works. It’s quick and effective.
@DJares3 I was told that is why the dock area always gets screwed up and needs to be dredged out. Because power loading pushes the lake floor to other sides and makes it shallower in other areas. Haven't been boating for long. But seen videos about it and it kinda made sense. Especially seeing your drone videos. It looks like a muddy swamp in Louisiana. 🤣
I'm guessing that having duel engines, with separate throttles is better than a single engine and throttle for docking maneuvers? ;-) I would have spent time at my local supermarket parking lot, practicing until I felt comfortable maneuvering my trailer, than find an out of the way dock to practicing launching and recovering my boat.

17:45 get that kid on the bow to sit down before trying to load, the lady captain is the same that nearly dumped the guy in the water. I knew this would be a s***show after that.:
@@Pisomajado The reason for it is mud. there is this black mud at the ends of most of the ramps and it very soft and get s blown out easily. There is large holes at the end of most ramps because of power loading.
26:20 Pontoon guy needs to learn to compensate for wind. That thing has HUGE side area and is acting like a daggerboard sailboat with no daggerboard down. Hug the upwind pier aimed slightly at it so path is parallel to the pier. Kick rudder over to straighten out just as you start over the trailer and hammer it home with about 30% throttle. Helps to have done trailering with a sailboat with the daggerboard up and NO MOTOR. Then you REALLY learn to deal with wind. That's all about timing when to drop the sails...
looks like a very easy ramp to launch from. I've always had to launch and load all by myself and never had any problems. always lots of crazy and drunk people at lakes

Hey, Dan Why is it that that the trailers do not have guide rills help guide boots on
Some do, but not many. I think the guide rails are typically for smaller boats (skiffs/ bass boats)
You certainly got the title of this video correct!!🎉🎉🎉
Floats because in the WATER TOO DAMN DEEP…PLUS: tires are buoyant…usually TOP OF FENDERS SHOULD BE “ABOVE” the water by 2”-3”!!!

Don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people in the water at the boat ramp
In our country powering onto trailers is prohibited due to erosion at the ramp. The secret to backing is to start with everything in line
Wow. Where’s. That
26:20 Pontoon guy needs to learn to compensate for wind.
👌💪💪💪👌👌
Even in SAfrica we build trailers that autoalign the boat when you ride on... on the beach, different tides etc etc etc.
I live here... this is hilarious😂😂😂😂
looks like a very easy ramp to launch from. I've always had to launch and load all by myself and never had any problems. always lots of crazy and drunk people at lakes
