Actually, this is a genius war but for different reasons. Russia is investing heavily in their military production and logistics. A trained economist could potentially be better at stream lining the processes and coming up with alternative economic pathways to prepare for shortages and cutoffs. The Defense Minister doesn’t need to run the military, generals do that. They need to work with the generals to supply their troops. A very good play

Belousov is actually one of those people who prepared the Russian economy for waging a sanctions war. And thanks to what it survived after 2022. Now he has come to unite the economic and military fronts into a single system of resistance and at the same time a source of development. Before his appointment, he was also involved in the drone development project:
“Since 2022, Andrey Belousov has been responsible for the development of technologies for creating high-speed vehicles and intelligent control systems, new generation transport equipment, as well as for the development of promising space systems and services.
In addition, Belousov has headed the National Council for Financial Stability since 2020, as well as government commissions on economic development and integration, transport, and from 2023 - on the development of unmanned aerial systems."

The US does not have to worry about deficits because the USD is the reserve currency. For Russia two things are critical: high energy prices and Chinese support (or at least China not bowing to US and EU pressure). My own view is that the Europeans and the Japanese are big losers from the Ukraine War, but largely, particularly in the European case, because of their own actions. And obviousluy for both Russia and Ukraine it is enormously costly, both in terms of lives and resources.

If you’re American, I think you are drastically underestimating the effect de-dollarization will have on American lives. There will be continued high inflation with stalled if not lower wages. Illegal immigrants will be competing for unskilled jobs. AI will change white collar jobs. The US will focus on war with China expecting such spending will improve their GDP. While young men and women will be drafted to fight in Europe, Middle East and in Asia… because there won’t be enough proxy troops to win against China. The rest of the world is preparing, while US/EU/UK believe things will be back to normal soon. I don’t even think American’s have given any thought that they, might be fighting a war on their own soil.

De dollarization won't have any significant effect like most people think it would. Dollar will just be like every other currency out there and still be strong. What usa should worry about is political elite corruption and the lobby. They have crossed the red line non should cross in a democracy. And that is when the will of few controls the many, that's feudalism. And feudalism is a poison.

Europe will collapse before it impacts Russian energy.
What you are over looking is a Russian deficit is a result of smaller amount of oil and gas sold but at higher prices.
Russia can run a deficit longer than Europe can do without LNG. As things stand practically 90% of EU has economies stagnant or in decline and the so-called “stagnant” has been achieved via creative accounting rather than output of goods.

Just a small correction it was still higher spending for Russia (Soviet Union) during the cold war. If I remember correctly the cold war military spending was at around 15% during Gorbachev's reign. Which was double of today's Russian military budget spending ( of it's total country's budget). So instead of reaching the cold war levels of spending. Putin decided to streamline it's effectiveness, instead. And as Belousov said it in his first speech, it's not necessarily means that Russia will be cutting it's spending on it's military , but it will be increasing it's effectiveness...

Truly weaponising money has to stop the destabilisation affect of this is morally wrong and can have devastating consequences for fragile economies.
