@Tullerion because 1366 isn't dead. Sandy bridge might have the performance edge in games, but nehalem still has benefits that SB can't match, such as triple channel memory mode, six core processors, 32 PCIe lanes for 4 way crossfire or SLI without using NF200 chips. All of these add up to increased performance over SB in numerous applications, such as multimedia, encoding and decoding, or any application which requires a ton of CPU or even GPU resources that SB just wouldn't be able to provide.
@mistermordancy a decent DAC. SNR ratio of Realtek/VIA chips doesn't exceeds 108 dB, while SB X-Fi Titanium HD has SNR of 122 dB and ASUS Xonar Essence ST has SNR of 124 dB.
@azkeyz well, I think it is only intended to be used when you take the water cooling route because that way you can use the open lanes between the cards and not worry about cutting off air flow. I also imagine, for the reason that you stated, that's why they included great on board audio and lan because if you are running 4-way SLI with stock coolers there would be no room for it as you pointed out.
@MrGaming96 sli is basically for NVIDIA cards only GTX 580, 570, 560 and earlier etc, all the way back to the 8800GT while crossfire is for AMD/ATI cards only such as 6950, 6970, 6990. they both do the same thing, allowing you to pare 2, 3 or up to 4 cards in AMD's case to increase performance in games and other gpu related tasks
@Cashmachinez nothing's wrong with 1155, it just doesn't have any appealing boards that suit my needs. I just dident want to get 1366 as it is soon to be replaced but this board has everything i need. But if your a casual gamer etc. 1155 is more than enough and in most cases is better.
The lengt of 1337 is also know as Leet. Google it for more detailed information. Just love the board and the features even the onboard sound is there old dedicated sound card. Great vid Linus
I have one of these boards and I love it. There is no OC zone on this board itself they are start and reset buttons, the ROG connect is for over clocking on the fly. The two golden bolt things are where the WiFi and blue tooth antennas attach. :)
@Shayd93 This is new by colour as far as I know, (have not watched the video yet) but if you're in the market for a 1337 board the Rampage III Extreme original is still one of the best if not the best (at least for overclocking) on the market even though it was released a while ago. Boards don't always get better just because they were made later than another just keep looking at reviews and eventually you'll know what you want.
@TheAks30 the msi board has teh lucid chip which supports 2 way sli adn 4 way xfire. This has the nf200 chip which supports 4 way sli and 4 way xfire. Plus the nf200 chip scales better in sli/xfire.
I have one of these boards and I love it. There is no OC zone on the board itself that's why there is the ROG connect option. And the golden bolts are where the WiFi and blue tooth antennas screw on. :)
@jbx907 this video was released in april, they are stopping manufacturing of x58 chipsets and 1366 cpu's in january next year, i guess thats just the way the cookie crumbles, anyway it had a really good lifespan 3 years is actually quite long for a chipset :)
@assassin72 i don't think it is im not sure if you noticed but there were a few "pointless cuts" in the video where they would have taken things out to make the video 13:37 long
I want to have this mobo!! Update: I consider myself extremely lucky, that just recently managed to buy the second best version of this motherboard. The "Asus Rampage III Extreme", for just under 80 bucks. That's very very cheap considering that on the used market price are now sky rocketing, due the fact that also retailers are now realizing that this x58 chipset is the solution to play the newest games at full settings for a very low price. Due to inflation and also a shortage of chips and other components, an increasing number of gamers have discovered this x58 chipset to be as nearly as good regarding performance in comparison to the newest hardware available today. But the cost is just a fraction of the price of the newest hardware So you can buy the mobo. ram, and cpu 6 cores 12 threads (overclock the cpu very close, or even beyond 5Ghz). And that saves you a lot of money that you can now spend on a good gpu, like the 3080 or 3090, or the RX 6900 XT.
What I never was able to understand with the Asus Rampage Motherboards, is that why would they make a mother that excels in almost every aspect, but yet, makes it only available for Intel CPU. That's like making Rolls Royce Phantom without wheels and only selling it to people with only one option of buy Solid Gold rims.
Where do you plug in your 3.5mm headphone and mic conenctors? Is that what the line in/out is for or do you have to use the internal header and use the ports on your case?
@3Z3K13L08 Agreed I recently brought a Sound card that required a x1 slot and I thought it would fit in the small gap between the x1 slot and the weird rounded part on the north bridge heat sink... I was mistaken luckily I had a spare x16 pci-e slot which worked just as well
i think he never mentioned the 'OC Button' or the 'OC zone' on the extreme right of board, or about the 2 golden bolts-sort-of-things on the IO any idea 'bout these stuffs?
I wonder if they are going to make a Dual socket LGA 2011 motherboard for ROG. Asus Ultimatum, Asus Annihilation, Asus Immensity, Asus Singularity, just some nice names. Asus Supernova, I don't know. Nice names though for motherboards.
@john0022 its not really better, but it is probably one of the best 1155 boards on the market, g1 assassin boards although great looking (in my opinion) are well over priced
As a technitian, i had to replace TONS of msi CRAP boards. the Gygabyte boards have greate compatebility, but short life for some reason. and how many Asus boards have i replaced? 0!!! i didn't replace even 1 Asus mother board! I have a A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard (not 32) with a athlon 64 3500+ (lol) and a ATI radeon X300SE put together laying around and it dont have wireless internet
Good video, but a question: Installed Windows 11 "the modern OS" fresh. AI Suite 3 wont install. Too many errors. This is for a 2015 motherboard ASUS ROG Black Edition . Any tips?

This was around the time I subscribed. Still watching pretty much every video they release. Happy to see how linus developed. And awesome board!
"anything with matte black PCB could be in my system because matte black pcb looks awesome"
+10000 thumbsup to that
I use a Xonar Essence STX with a built in headphone amp. It's incredible.
@mistermordancy a decent DAC. SNR ratio of Realtek/VIA chips doesn't exceeds 108 dB, while SB X-Fi Titanium HD has SNR of 122 dB and ASUS Xonar Essence ST has SNR of 124 dB.
@MrGaming96 sli is for nvidia, crossfire is for ati/amd. Not all boards support both sli and crossfire.
@azkeyz

Thanks Linus I was one of the many people who requested this unboxing.
The lengt of 1337 is also know as Leet. Google it for more detailed information. Just love the board and the features even the onboard sound is there old dedicated sound card. Great vid Linus

@carlje54 actually booting on those conectors shouldn't be an issue: If you got 6gb/s use them, boot from them and enjoy them.
@TheAks30 the msi board has teh lucid chip which supports 2 way sli adn 4 way xfire. This has the nf200 chip which supports 4 way sli and 4 way xfire. Plus the nf200 chip scales better in sli/xfire.

@tarnationstation it will undoubtedly be after decemeber, probably released around the same time sandy bridge was this year
@jbx907 this video was released in april, they are stopping manufacturing of x58 chipsets and 1366 cpu's in january next year, i guess thats just the way the cookie crumbles, anyway it had a really good lifespan 3 years is actually quite long for a chipset :)
@superdutyon44s This is a LGA1366 socket mobo. it only supports i7 and i7extreme. note: not the i7-2600k, that is 1155.
@assassin72 i don't think it is im not sure if you noticed but there were a few "pointless cuts" in the video where they would have taken things out to make the video 13:37 long
Looks like the heatsinks are a bit bigger than on the Rampage III extreme
@goatslayer85 The thunderbolt is like a sound card and network card in one. Basically sound quality and network speed is greatly improved
The thunderbolt was used on the macbook pros..... the thuderbolt port for external drives
@10thprestigepro X79 adds PCIe 3.0, 8 dimm slots, quad channel memory as well as other things
I think that the video goes for 13:37 is quite fitting for the hardware.
@evildwarf Thunderbolt is an Intel technology. Apple is just the first to use it. Look up Light Peak.
@deccno Intel and Apple collaborated to develop Thunderbolt.
@esdymo lol its Ivy Bridge and that's the 22nm manufacturing process chips code names
@gerardbiteme Thanks for the comment back but just FYI this board is a 1366 :)
Thank you sooooo much 4 uploading this video..i really appreciate that.. :D
Lovin' the length of this video.
holy shit finally found a video that nobody is watching anymore i am the first comment from over 1 year
Wiiblix OS not so fast, now i am the newest comment
You were saying?
I WAS SAYING, NOT SO FAST!
got em
I won
@CakerTV He doesn't. He works for NCIX.
i agree with @umerrule. Linus should do some extreme overclocking with liquid nitrogen.
Was the video length on purpose? The board certainly seems worthy.
Awesome work as usual Linus!
3:00 That looks like the cable I use to connect my ASUS OC station to my Rampage III Formula board.
I want to have this mobo!!
Update:
I consider myself extremely lucky, that just recently managed to buy the second best version of this motherboard.

@Swornvendetta You try changing the sata port for your SSD? Could just be a dead port.
@slfviirus yeah they should make a red/black themed one
@JetsuSeal the equivalant amd board would be asus iv crossair formula 890fx
or if your really bonkers theres the asus crosshair iv extreme
@kingduqc more features, more stable, more overclocking, and etc
What I never was able to understand with the Asus Rampage Motherboards, is that why would they make a mother that excels in almost every aspect, but yet, makes it only available for Intel CPU. That's like making Rolls Royce Phantom without wheels and only selling it to people with only one option of buy Solid Gold rims.
im sure they'll make a Z68 version of this. I think is kind of late to be buying 1366 socket board.
i was the one who emailed u xD whoa next day u posted this up thanx linus
@DeathbyLaughter1
This is the longest unboxing of a motherboard by Linus so far, ending at 1337!
I was mistaken luckily I had a spare x16 pci-e slot which worked just as well

any idea 'bout these stuffs?
So this ''Thunderbolt'' is Network card and sound card in ONE? I wish it supports 7.1 sound D:
@wilfeatscheese as far as i know it means leet witch means elite
So this is some NEW motherboard model, or just old III packed in black box. I don't wanna plan buying old thing
@umerrule I think that a video of him overclocking his cat using liquid nitrogen would be even more awesome.
@Andragon90 its 1366 not 1337
rocking a 4.7ghz Xeon in one of these puppies makes this chipset still a monster for its age.
13:37 video, yay!
I got only one question since USB 3.0 is backward compatibble why does the manufactures still use USB 2.0 ports on the back of the motherboards ??
@darksidewarrior1995 yes, its pretty easy to tell if you can...
the button behind is not a reset switch it is a LED switch for the mother board
hey linus, why dun u do a comparison video between Rampage Black and G1, Assassin ? and the pros and cons abt to it
so this has 8 phases, how would overclocking on this compare to a 16 phase board such as the G1 Assassin? which would give a higher overclock?
I wonder if they are going to make a Dual socket LGA 2011 motherboard for ROG. Asus Ultimatum, Asus Annihilation, Asus Immensity, Asus Singularity, just some nice names. Asus Supernova, I don't know. Nice names though for motherboards.
@john0022 its not really better, but it is probably one of the best 1155 boards on the market, g1 assassin boards although great looking (in my opinion) are well over priced
@goatslayer85 its a sound card and LAN card combo. it also has a built in headphone amp. hows that?
Can't get the Bluetooth working -.- got latest drivers too wifi works tho...
@sejn79 but not in their customer service unfortunately !
We should see more mid-high end motherboards with wireless LAN. I don't want to spend money on a dedicated card.
@TheMPTheaterOfficial what is 1337 from ??? isnt it a gaming clan or something ???
I love how he nuts over matte black in almost every new mobo unboxingXD
@DaFish1337 Groß... I have no idea how they even managed to link those.
@3clayman It means that everyone should go out and buy this 1337 board! NAO!
Should I get this board for Xmas or should I wait for a better one?
Ode wants an unboxing of the P8P67 WS Revolution, and he asks nicely because he said please :)
The blue tooth is clearly the most useful feature on this board
@miniclitz its $572.91 canadian
@jacekantoine yes you can...
Awesome board, im totally getting this, screw 1155.
I feel like crazy now. I just bought this Motherboard with the i7 980, 24GB of RAM and 6990 4GB.. And im getting it watercooled :'D
Can you use 3-way SLI + dedicated PhysX (4 GPU)
(I don't care if it's not a good idea, that not the question)
rampage black edition or the G1 Assassin in terms of gaming?
1337 means leet as in Elite
As a technitian, i had to replace TONS of msi CRAP boards.
the Gygabyte boards have greate compatebility, but short life for some reason.
and how many Asus boards have i replaced? 0!!!
i didn't replace even 1 Asus mother board!
ALL Asus boards were 100% PERFECT !!!
That's amazing. i LOVE this company
GREATE quality mother boards and graphic cards as well
what is the diffecences about this and rampage III extreme except the colour and the soundcard?
The usb on the sound card is for a usb headset? Sorry if it is an obvious question. Just wanted to check.
Noi4444
Will this fit in the NZXT Phantom and is this worth the price tag? Please reply if ya can. Thx.
bit harsh to the camera man for giving us a good angle? diva!
How do you get your hands on all of these computer parts?
excuse me, Sebastian can i put a rampage III extreme black edition on an antec six hundred ???
I don't care if this video is bad or good, a like for sure. And added to favorites =)
Can you please do a size comparison with the gigabyte sniper mobo?
Would this motherboard work in 4 way SLI with out the "Xpander"?
Dang ! I have new mobo ASUS RAMPAGE 3 EXTREME ! Kinda expensive but this . . . . Gulp. . .
But I'm in Tri-SLi where I put that awesome soundcard ? ? ?
I have a A8N SLI Deluxe motherboard (not 32) with a athlon 64 3500+ (lol) and a ATI radeon X300SE put together laying around and it dont have wireless internet
can someone please explain to me the point of that thunderbolt thing? or just what it is in general because I still don't understand it.
Good video, but a question: Installed Windows 11 "the modern OS" fresh. AI Suite 3 wont install. Too many errors. This is for a 2015 motherboard ASUS ROG Black Edition . Any tips?
do you still have it in warehouse?
very nice board but I cant see any justification for getting this board over the R3F I already have...
are there any videos that arent based off of popular demand?
i just drooled through the hole video
howcome this doest show up on my ncix or linustechtips subscription page ?
