A couple of days after watching this episode I watched the latest episode of The Smallest Cog. The young apprentice was told to empty the old oil from the waste oil drainer. After hearing Ben's fear of this task, I watched and waited, popcorn in hand. And yes it happened! The total confusion about the valves. Which one's open, which one should be closed before attaching the air pressure pipe. haha Oil everywhere! 🤣🤣
Just watched the latest Smallest Cog episode. The apprentice had to empty the waste oil drainer. Attached the air pressure hose, and guess what? Exactly as you described 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Excellent episode fellas 👍👍 Loved the Lightning story’s. My favourite fighter of all time. I must have been about 11 years old, so around 1966 we had a family day out at the air show held at RAF Gaydon. There was a Lightning and and Phantom next to one another, protected from the public by a length of one inch rope looped through sticks 😂 As the show was coming to an end, pilots were returning to their steeds ready for departure. There were no throngs of hi-vis clad guards herding the crowds to a safe zone 200yard away. The pilots and crew just began the start up procedure. Strangely, as happened back then, we all started to get ourselves out of the way and into a safe area using common sense alone 😱 Happy days 🛩️
How things have changed. The Lightning was a beast! Btw, the main engineering hangar at RAF Valley is called Gaydon hangar as it was made for RAF Gaydon that closed before it got there so was used at RAF Valley, I know! You’re welcome.
Another great episode. You mean the Fiesta RS Turbo - with the three spoke alloys and green bumper trim; there was an Escort RS Turbo too. Only ever saw them in white. Think they also did red, black and grey.
I forgot to say in the 70s .. My dad used to underseal the car with the old engine oil and paint the garden fencing , We had the best fencing, and the only car in the street without rust 😄
i usually save these pods for my drive from kent to newcaslte, but couldnt resist watching this one while doing yet more work at home, very funny lads, please keep it up, getting better and better
Another great podcast guys, really love all the stories that Wynne has from his time in the RAF. To clear up the Fiesta chat, the XR2 was the carburettor version (MK2), the XR2i was the injection version, then you also had the RS Turbo and RS1800 in the Mk3 shape. Keep up the great work both of you.
I've got an unusual question for Wynne. In a previous life I was a traffic cop in Northumbria Police. I used to patrol around North Newcastle and Whitley Bay. We used to see local fighter jets just off the coast doing low level trianing runs. I used to use the hand held laser and radar we used for detecting cars speeding to see if we could get a 'hit' on the jet. It never did get a reading, however, we did used to see the jets wiggle the wings at us, as if the pilots were getting a missle lock or radar lock warning tone in the cockpit and they were warning us to stop it. I dunno if the missle lock warning is a real thing. Good job it didn't automatically shoot at us or I would have been screwed. Any truth in this ?
It is possible. Some jets had missile warning kit on them, of course it could be because they saw you. I’ve waggled my wings many times, not a euphemism!
Haven’t heard the name Houchin for years. My grandad when he retired from the police in the 70s got a job as live on site security guard at the factory in Ashford. When I stayed over in the on-site flat my grandparents lived in I used to go on patrol with him round the factory. I can still smell the oil and metal shavings the whole complex smelt of. It was a massive place that got pulled down years ago. I guess the work went abroad.
Great chat fellas. I stopped watching TG when JC & co left but it’s sad to see it end due to the stupidity of the cricketer. Having owned a Mk2 XR2 & 205 1.9 the latter was better to drive but the Fester always made me grin.
Wynne, glad you mentioned lightnings & binbrook. Having lived close they were a large part of my childhood as were A10s. Did the A10 replace the lightning? Did you were work with either? Loving the pod!
Mk2 astra 1.3's seemed so rapid back in the day i would almost say they were better than the 1600 for racing arround in. I had a mk2 1.3 , im sure it was 5 speed , i always say it was an eclipse, with pearl white wheel trims that lasted a week before they all flew off. No one i speak to has ever heard of such a model , who knows must have been a dealer special .
"I just put it in mixed recycling" Love this 😂

Absolutely true. Glad you liked it.

Thanks Richard.
Super entertaining , thank you both . Roisin Conaty as a guest serving drinks adding to the craic would polish off the Man Down vibe for sure....

First! Glad Wynne got his Kinder Egg.
I believe it was an English electric lightning that Jeremy Clarkson purchased and put on his driveway 😂 to the obvious delight of his neighbours 🤣
Yes, I found a photo.

@@WheelsandWingsPodcast Hey, whatever floats yer boat Wynne
I think JC, your god, bought a scrap Lighting, and parked it on his front lawn....is it still there. Great show dudes.

I am now looking for any kinder products for my satisfaction. Wynne, no one told me it was a Val Doonican evening. You have out done yourself. 😂

Ben, i suspect that your constant leg tremors are due to too much coffee rather than columbian martching powder 🤣

Watching this makes my Sunday 😅 wynn as a x helicopter 🚁 pilot what did you think of the 80s classic Bluethunder and airwolf keeping it real boy's 🎉🎉🎉
I must admit I loved anything with an aeroplane or helicopter, even if some of the scenes were sped up.
