Really enjoy your videos especially on electricial diagnostic. I also became a diagnostic nut about the same time as you. (watching SD when he first started videos) I bought a Modis after watching your video --best automotive lab scopes-- and love it! (500.00 on Ebay) My Modis also froze up after the power became disconnected from the battery. To reset try this--remove the left black hand grip--there is a tiny reset button above the cf card---you can barely get your finger in there! Hope this helps you or someone else. What a fantastic down to earth intro for those that don't know what these tools are capable of, those who are on the fence and those who are brand new to them (like myself). I really appreciate you taking the time to make something like this for the benefit of the others. I'm sure many will get inspired to invest in these pro-level tools that are now available to us at a bargain price (these were $4-$8k new). Thank you! PS. I'm a tool freak myself and would love to get a tour of your shop/tools. I mean not the basic boring stuff like screwdrivers/rachets etc but shop equipment type of stuff and may be a video of your favorite tools. Added bonus would be keeping the video length to no more than 10 mins :)

Vantage Pros are actually more sought after due to their more compact form factor. The Modis has the scanner+scope both so you don't need two separate tools BUT since the scan tools are only as good as the version and vehicles they support in a way they will always become obsolete. So in my view a vantage pro (for scope/graphing/testing pov) and an inexpensive but a decent bi-directional scan tool (that you upgrade every so often depending on your usage) would be a pretty decent way to go.
I bought a MODIS. I do not have an RPM adapter to plug into its nine pin port. Can anyone tell me which of the nine pins are the signal and ground. I would like to adapt a two pin pickup to work on it.

Hey good video for the beginner , as you know Paul Danner goes into detail on how to use this tool if you subscribe to his premium channel and it's only 10.00 a month which is well worth it, I do have a 4 gas anaalizer which is great on carburated cars I picked one up on Ebay for 100.00 many years ago , You can also get some great deals from pawn shops I got my snap on vantage pro from a Pawn America it's like BRAND NEW and is updated to 2012 only used 3 times and I got some extra adaptors for 400.00 and a guarntee , I have a Autel DS 708 , it's a good scanner updated to 2016 but each one has there advantages if I was doing this on a regular basis I would probally go with the New OTC or Snap on but I am a retired Auto Tech and only work on a part time basis at 67 but keep the video's coming I enjoy them all !

It appears to function normally but I have never heard the cooling fan operate. Should it be running all the time or is thermostat/thermistor controlled? Hi my friend. I don’t remember if cooling fan runs all the time but I do remember that it did when you plug battery and AC charger. I don’t have MODIS anymore.👍

Hello ! Are you as an expert prompt please having modis you do the diagnostics by scanner only for your domestic American market or have serviced European and Asian cars not for the US market? Question such buying on ebay in the Us midis can I fully work with scanner with auto not only for the Us?
I have a problem with my Modis...it just stopped working one day and gave some kind of CF card error. I tried and tried to "clone" other Modis CF cards, with no luck. I even tried to delete/add lines of code in certain BIN files to try to get it to boot up again with the various CF cards I have, but still no luck. I can plug a USB mouse to my modis and access Windows CE. Of course, Snap On does NOT support the old Modis so I'm THOUSANDS of dollars in the hole. Is there anyway I could get an image of known working CF card? I know there are files in the CF card I could change the serial number to make a match. I would really like to get it working again if not just for the lab scope. HELP...? Show less REPLY
You were talking about updating the tool at approx. 5:00. If updates are $800 a year and you skipped 2 years of updates. Then on the 3rd year you wanted to get it updated, would you pay $800 and get all 3 years worth of previous updates, or will you have to pay $800 for each previous year and your total would be $2,400 to get your scanner current with all 3 years of updates?

Simon flores Vantage pro is excellent scope but MODIS is four channel scope and scanner as well. MODIS offer so much more but t is bigger unit which sometimes can be annoying. My screen has developed lines making it hard to see in my Snap On Vantage MT2400. I was thinking of looking to replace it with a Modis but. I only own this to work on obd1 1989 Corvette and 1995 Chevrolet K1500 truck. My newer vehicles we take to the dealer. Is the Modis compatible with GM Obd1? I also own a MT2500 red box. Thanks for any info. It looks like no easy way to repair my Vanatge MT2400
I just bought the Modis Ultra used but it will not come with test leads - I know I need the shielded, scope leads with common ground plugs as well - is there anywhere aftermarket I can buy them or do I have to go through Snap On? They are $30 each at Snap On!.
Modis has four channel lab scope which is big advantage compare to Vantage pro that has two channels. Modis is also scan tool. However Vantage pro has option that no other tools have and that is internal graphing amp meter that eliminates need for amp clamp and its very accurate. hey ramon, when i m using a scanner, it is powered through pin 16 of the DLC, right?...but if i am at the garage, am i allowed to simultaneously(at the same time) power it from an external source also, such as wall outlet via the adapter?
I have verus pro and it came with personal communication keys which I never had to use. Do you know when would you really need to use those keys on verus pro? Nice video BTW

For me Auto Enginuity is the way to go. $1500 buys all extensions and updates are only $60. For mobile diagnostic there is nothing that comes close. These snap-on scanner come with all that junk. Had a 50lbs case. Now All I need is small laptop with auto enginuity and pico scope. With all the probes and wires, everything fits in small backpack. All powered by laptop battery. For example, auto enginuity had over 2000 pids on Benz. Snap-on had 30% of that. Sold it.
Auto Enginuity is great scan tool. Base price is $250.00 and for any additional enhance coverage you have to pay extra $150.00 to $200.00 . Plus price of pico scope which is the best automotive scope on the market cost 800.00 for basic 2 channel scope kit. I still believe for DIY MODIS is great option and prices are going down on this unit. And what junk you are talking about those are connectors for OBD I cars. Thank you for watching.

I would like to know how you got the 57 chevy theme on your unit. I have 16.2 on mine and it don't have this theme as a option. I have seen others with car themes on them.
This is my second modis and neither has had the car theme option. My first one had 14.2 and the one i have now which is the checker flag edition had 13.2 which i updated to 16.2 i had someone tell me their snapon dealer put the car theme on theirs. I dont think my dealer can do this.

@@dannyscarpati7049, Snapon does support the Modis. I just spoke to my Snapon Rep. yesterdsy on 12-13-18 and he said they have updates twice a year. If you miss one update it is $1,200 to get caught up whether the Modis needs 2 or 10 updates. He had brand new ones on the truck. You can go to the Snapon website and see them. snapon.com

HERO N ERIC No you can't.That is why some people like to have two separate units scanner and labscope but it's lot more money. Only Snapon toll that can do it is Verus because you can split screen in two .

Yeah, I have an OTC Encore to compliment the Vantage and it works pretty well. But there are times when the 4 channels on that Modis look pretty good!
Hantek could be cheep alternative if you need scope with more than two channels. Vantage Pro is very nice scope as well.

The Modis fan does not run all the time. It is thermostatically controlled. Use it outside on a hot day and the fan should come on.

MODIS is compatible with OBD1 and it will work for sure. You will need to use GM OBD1 adapter you have from MT2400 scanner.👍

Zvonimir Bobic If you are talking about Snapon Modis you can always use external power source any time you use tool as scanner or labscope.
Can it read codes for Ev cars like a Chevy volt?

I was told the modis I have has one more update available from my snap on guy.

Will Modis have Integrate Vantage, and Blue Tooth VCI, capability??
It has labscope and GMM same as Vantage but no Blue Tooth
Can I use it as a scanner and a lab scope at the same time? ex. actuate egr valve and back probe egr valve pins for signal.
HERO N ERIC No you can't.That is why some people like to have two separate units scanner and labscope but it's lot more money. Only Snapon toll that can do it is Verus because you can split screen in two .

Can you do bidirectional testing on 2019 with a scanner with the version 15.2 like you have.

Mark Patton I am not sure. I believe CF card is designated to single unit only ones is activated. I would call Snapon customers service they will know for sure. 1-800-424-7226. I don't want to give you any misleading info. Thanks for watching sir. Cheers
Yes, the CF card is married to the unit or so I have been told. I guess I'll take the rocker thumb switch out of mine to fix the one I bought.

armando nika both tools are great. Autel is better with Euro bit MODIS has labscope and component testing which is huge asset.
