Sidney Poitier was an incredible actor who always projected strength and dignity. I love all of his films, but my very favorite is "A Patch of Blue" 1965. I don't usually cry when my favorite actors pass, but the tears are streaming down my face. Thank you Mr. Poitier for all you've given us.

As a teenager I saw him in ‘Guess whose coming to dinner’ and it left a great impact on me. There were very few black actors at that time and little understanding of different cultures so he led the way. He had indeed all of those qualities and I respected his good family values and dignity. Wonderful man.
Sidney Poitier was not just an icon he was a legend winning the academy award for the 1963 film Lilies of the Field it was the year Dr Martin Luther King Jr I have a Dream Speech happened and then JFK was Assassinated witch was a very dark time for America but when Sidney Poitier won the Oscar for Lilies of the Field this was one of the things after 1964 when Beatlemania happened and The 1964 New York Worlds Fair happend and When The Civil Rights movement was passed a lot of Americans were starting to feel proud of our country

One of the MOST respected actors in Hollywood ever! His movies taught the world. He didn't take just ANY role. I hope his career serves as an example to future black American actors. While I like Denzel, he's definitely no Poitier. Not once did he ever play some magician, an athlete, a comedian, the "help" or some thuggish ruggish gangster. We lost a real Hollywood hero that had real integrity, no fakery or prostitution to get over! We still have another great in Harry Belafonte, thank God. R.I.P. Mr. Poitier.
When I think of Sidney poitier, I think of a wonderful human being who has contributed goodness and great entertainment. I was born in 1964 and grew up watching Sidney poitier both on TV and in movies and I always felt he was a good spirit. I am so hurt that he is gone. May he rest in ✌
One of his lesser known films but an excellent one. It came on TCM a lot in the 90s and was my introduction to him. He was great in that and so was the girl.
Sydney was such a talented trailblazer. The unspeakable things he must had to endure in Hollywood and society on a whole in order to be recognized for his raw natural talent. My condolences to his family and may his soul rest in peace 🙏🏾

Sidney Poitier was one of my heroes. Back in the 1960s we Black kids didn't have many heroes. I used to save my nickels and dimes to go see his movies at the local theater. My favorite Sidney Poitier movie: "A Patch of Blue". RIP, Mr Poitier. You will be truly missed.
What a career, His acting was so on point. How to face the days of the hidden racism which we still face today. Without fighting with violence but dignity and firmness to address this problem. And over 60 years the numbers of black shows which depict our plight in society and still haven't reached the level of projecting the reality which we represent on T.V. I remember in 2004 my wife Milagros and I were in a taxi going past Columbus Circle when she saw Mr Sidney Poitier standing at a corner waiting for the light to change. My wife damn near tried to jump out of the moving taxi just to get a better look at the greatest actor of stage and screen. I didn't understand her reaction until I took a good look at Mr Poitier and I was also in awe. He had such a commanding presence standing tall like a King who never lost the common touch. And in that brief moment in time my wife and I were in attendance to greatness so rare that it took us a few days to come back to earth. My wife passed away in 2011 and after learning about the passing of Sidney Poitier a memory of a brief moment came rushing back as if though it were yesterday. That is how great this man will always be in the hearts and minds of all he touched unaware or not. Even as tears from the clouds above beyond the clouds there is a rainbow that shines bright in Heaven for one of God's children has come home.

I'm not sure I've watched a single movie he's been in and just learned he was a civil rights leader as well as an actor. I knew little to nothing about this man, yet his passing makes me sad and strikes me like we've lost a very important, powerful and significant human being, and not just a Hollywood actor. Even knowing so little about him or his work, he always struck me as very dignified, strong, powerful, significant and classy. RIP Mr. Poitier. Job well done sir.

Knowing Sydney, I can only tell you how much sadness the lack of the "Black Community" lifting themselves up and the failure of Black father's within the family structure brought him. He always believed so much in everyone's abilities and all of our opportunities.

When these two were combined, the strength would litterly knock you over. His Delivery of Soul Wrenching Emotions left you Speachless. He wasnt any Color, other than God Blessed with such an Exceptional Talent that he could only be called Magnificent. A Magnificent Artist. After a performance he was still with you, like a Warm Glow that stayed a while. Thats talent in its Rarest Form. I think of all the Actors. He is one of the Very Best.

I can't begin to express all the things Sidney made me feel over the years! My mother loved him and she raised me to feel the same way! The beauty, the grace.... this man was excellence personified!
So much love and respect for this great man. He broke down stereotypes and racial lines with his dignified demeanor. I never saw him as the best "black " actor, I saw him as the "best" actor period. His roles left impressions on everyone. They were meaningful and deep. Watching his movies made you feel like you were watching a show on Broadway. His range was so powerful. We are losing our legends and these new generation will never know how they changed the world.

One of the MOST respected actors in Hollywood ever! His movies taught the world. He didn't take just ANY role. I hope his career serves as an example to future black American actors. While I like Denzel, he's definitely no Poitier. Not once did he ever play some magician, an athlete, a comedian, the "help" or some thuggish ruggish gangster. We lost a real Hollywood hero that had real integrity, no fakery or prostitution to get over! We still have another great in Harry Belafonte, thank God. R.I.P. Mr. Poitier.

One of his lesser known films but an excellent one. It came on TCM a lot in the 90s and was my introduction to him. He was great in that and so was the girl.

I remember in 2004 my wife Milagros and I were in a taxi going past Columbus Circle when she saw Mr Sidney Poitier standing at a corner waiting for the light to change. My wife damn near tried to jump out of the moving taxi just to get a better look at the greatest actor of stage and screen. I didn't understand her reaction until I took a good look at Mr Poitier and I was also in awe. He had such a commanding presence standing tall like a King who never lost the common touch. And in that brief moment in time my wife and I were in attendance to greatness so rare that it took us a few days to come back to earth. My wife passed away in 2011 and after learning about the passing of Sidney Poitier a memory of a brief moment came rushing back as if though it were yesterday. That is how great this man will always be in the hearts and minds of all he touched unaware or not. Even as tears from the clouds above beyond the clouds there is a rainbow that shines bright in Heaven for one of God's children has come home.
Mr. Poitier was not only one of the great actors of all time he was one of the great iconic people of all time! Classy as they come, he will be missed! RIP Sir Sidney, MAY YOUR REST BE AS PEACEFUL AS "THE LILIES OF THE FIELD!"

I knew little to nothing about this man, yet his passing makes me sad and strikes me like we've lost a very important, powerful and significant human being, and not just a Hollywood actor. Knowing Sydney, I can only tell you how much sadness the lack of the "Black Community" lifting themselves up and the failure of Black father's within the family structure brought him.
