I got a brand new one of these in the 1970s.i only lasted 8 months then the clutch string broke.i even took my dad with me to the shop when I went a second time because the manager told me it couldn't be repaired because it was an import that normally wouldn't have been imported.what's that supposed to mean you tubers?my dad had a chat with the manager and asked why,why,why,why do you sell something that can't be repaired.the end result was no repair and no money back.£168 down the drain.i repaired the clutch but no matter how careful i was when adjusting the screw in one direction the take up spool wouldn't wind fast enough and in the other direction the spool pulled that hard that it slowed the capstain down.i took it to an expert grundig dealer in leeds as I thought the string may be made of a special material and also he would know if anything else was wrong with the clutch as a whole.it made no difference though so kept if for a while putting up with it's faults but when the heads started wearing so very little recorded sound could be heard I binned it with disgust.give me vortexion,clarke and smith and brenell any time.
Do you remember the name of the shop you bought it from? I purchased the TK 244 (still have it) from a shop (PSB ) in Halton Leeds, they had branches in Wetherby and Boston Spa.
