The fact that those seven states are permitted to choose between a cynical buffoon and a dementia patient, neither of whom is willing to publicly confront the reality of American power politics, is far more concerning. The US is owned and operated by a few hundred ruthless but cowardly billionaires and corporate CEOs who would rather hide behind the illusion of democracy than come out of the shadows and submit themselves to public scrutiny. Works just fine for them -- the rest of us not so much.

@@toniam.2080 There was no 'west coast' when the constitution was adopted -- most of the population was still east of the Appalachians then. But otherwise, what you say is correct -- smaller states were concerned about being swamped by bigger states; the electoral college and having two senators per state regardless of size were both aimed at alleviating those concerns.

Well let’s be real clear how we got here. Bernie won the first 3 primary states and the party and media establishment panicked. And in their panic gaslit and lied their way into getting in a candidate they KNEW was fading, and would be in this state by this point at best.

After all the huffing and puffing about Trump, they couldn't let it be known that they actually preferred Trump to Sanders -- which they wouldn't be able to conceal anymore if Sanders actually got the number of delegates to be nominated. He needed to be stopped somehow. Buttigieg couldn't do it (even with the help of the Shadow app in Iowa); but Joe Biden, senility and all, had that name recognition and association with Obama in the minds of South Carolina voters. And he thus became their only option.

If nothing else Congress should do a full-blown investigation as to who is known that the president had dementia and how long have they known it? Seems to me hiding this from the American people borders on treason. I suppose it would be one thing if there were only a few months left in a lame duck term, although even then the interest of the country ought to come first.
