WHEW! John, DONT ever forget your family during scary times like this! They need you more than anything or anyone else. I’ve been on two wheels for over 40 years started a family almost 30 years ago and before them I wasn’t very smart during my riding. I smartened up since then.
First, I'm glad you're okay. Second, everything you talked about is exactly what I went through when I wrecked my '14 Limited. There were painted parts involved, so it took a good six weeks for those parts to get to the dealership. My insurance company also covered my helmet and riding gear, including a $1,000 pair of prescription sunglasses that one of the ambulance crew stepped on when they were putting me on the gurney. All-in-all, I was extremely happy with how everything regarding the repairs went down and the bike came back in better shape than it was before the wreck. Again, I'm happy to know you weren't seriously injured. As always, great video, John!
Andrew Threlkeld I got hit on my sportster, I don’t know until tomorrow how much $ it would be to repair or if they are going to salvage it... I got hit on September 13 and I owned it for a total of 12 days
Andrew Threlkeld I broke my pelvis and really hurt my pride due to it not being my fault. (It’s the slower drivers to watch out for btw) but hopefully I’ll be able to get back to riding hopefully by January 1st if not March 17th
I am glad you were not injured John. My 08 FLHTC had a blow out years back. I did not wreck. No damage other than a sliced tire. The bike was about a yr old. The tow truck driver came to tow the bike to the dealer, and as the flat bed was up, and he was pulling the bike up on the bed (flat bed/ram)- he had not secured the bike to the holder rack at the front tire, and dumped my bike over onto the highway from about 7 ft up in the air. Based on that experience, I estimate with helmet $3200.00. BTW- I did PAUSE the video, to add this comment before I heard you announce the total. LOL
My biggest motorcycle fear (outside of injury and death) is wrecking one of my victory’s. Getting parts is getting harder and the cost is going up. I don’t want my bike being scrapped
I feel for you, John. I went down on my '03 Heritage in '07 at about 50 MPH! Amazingly I didn't break anything other than skin. My HD boots survived with just a bit of scuffing but my Nolon N40 helmet sacrificed its life for my face and head, with out it I would have been maimed or dead. Ride on, bro, there are lots of roads left to ride and good luck with the new business.
Good to hear you're okay and the bike suffered minimal damage. I have the engine guard and saddlebag guards on my 19 Heritage. A couple weeks after intalling the engine guard/saddlebag guards, I had an incident and the guards saved everything. The right side guards only got a little scratched up. Nothing a Harley frame paint touch up pen didn't fix. Also, just bought one of those Kove Speakers using your link. 65% off...couldn't pass that deal up. Be safe and thanks for all the great videos!
I feel your pain! My ‘18 Heritage slid forward as I was putting it on the stand! Scratched the primary cover but not the clutch cover; same spot as yours, no other damage. So glad you weren’t hurt! Take care, John!

Had to wait for a fuel tank, and front fender. I live 7 miles from my local Harley shop. I was there the afternoon after the adjuster who wrote them a check on the spot. They started ording parts before I even got there to sign the check. Didnt see my bike for 3mths. Good thing I have a back up.

Nice to hear you are fine and not hurt. Thanks for the information. I was involved in a Hit & Run and yes, it did take a while to get painted parts. The dealership always kept me informed on what was happening with the bike.
Interesting video. Considering I just wrecked my 2018 FLHCS 114 as well one month ago. Took a turn too fast (like an idiot), got it stabilized in the grass, rather than full stop - decided I'd get back on pavement while still moving. Low sided it on the return to pavement. Made a "which bone didn't I break in my right foot" sandwich between the highway peg mount and the brake pedal. Had to wait 3 weeks for the swelling to go down before they installed an erector set in my foot. Yes - was wearing a helmet. Didn't call insurance. Rode the bike home. Waiting to heal myself to ride it to the shop. Glad to hear you are OK.
@@jasonmckinney6444 Its not even screwing over the insurance company, they are fine with it. Your time is valuable. 1st... I’m happy you’re not injured..except for your pride. Good thing you had your helmet on. I’ve been on too many motorcycle crashes where the only lethal injury was their head without a helmet. Thank you for this very informative video. It took a bad incident to share this information. Keep up the good work John, get back out there and ride the wheels off!!
That sucks John. But as a number of others have already said, all that really matters is that you are fine. Engine guards and saddle bag guards and leathers saved me! My HD Dealer collision center did A to Z for me and the bike was back 100% new. They drove the insurance claim to make sure nothing was missed. As for the helmet they saved me in the dirt and now on the pavement, I recommend wearing a good one!
Glad you're ok. I wrecked my drifter a few months back due to a rainy night and a moronic driver cutting me off. Got lucky going only 10mph and just ended up with bent left bar and scrapes on the engine guard. If you guys value your legs and your bike at all, invest in an engine guard!

My first wreck of my FXDL had an estimate of 3 months to replace my vivid black gas tank, and I was bummed... BUT, the parts guy at my dealership called a week later and said a customer had custom ordered a black and orange tank but never picked it up. It's been on my bike (at a discounted price to boot) ever since! Sometimes it pays to have a dealer who thinks outside the box in order to get a customer back on the road quickly and safely. They had cool extra inventory and I had a need. Glad you're ok brother!
If the shop finds damage that your adjuster didn't they can submit a supplement to ask the adjuster to pay for any additional damages not previously included in the estimate. The two party check is usually a required part if you have a lienholder to protect their interests, if someone owns it outright they can just take the check and run if they really wanted to. That said, glad you're all good man, hope you're back on the road quickly and enjoying your ride man.
Glad you escaped basically unharmed. Crashing is the worst. Amazing how quickly things can go bad when you are riding. Great testimony for crash guards and proper riding gear. Thanks
Glad you're ok! My Sport Glide was not quite 2 weeks old when a pickup backed up into it at a gas station pump. The pump he was at wasn't working, so he decided to back up to the pump behind him - where I had just stopped. I wasn't even off the bike yet when suddenly the bike squatted way down. His bumper had gone over the left side saddle bag, locking the bike upright. He stopped before going any further, so only the saddle bag was damaged.

I am glad that you are ok! I was in an accident with my bike August 18th. 3 broken ribs, and a lot of road rash (both arms) did not have a jacket on. I am hoping to have my bike repaired in the next 6 months.
Glad your ok...great info video....Just wrecked my tri glide ultra, clipped the left rear fender, while trying to maneuver into a parking spot, on some guys steel trailer gate, and have been waiting g for parts to come in at my HD dealer....Good luck getting yours back together quickly....Tim...
Glad your okay man! I had a guy pull out in front of me on my 14 breakout and my repair order was almost 7k and I also was able to ride the bike home from the scene. Thank God for insurance
I’m glad your ok. More importantly I’m glad you shared your experience. On a side note I LOVE MY KOVE. When I’m in the garage it’s in the garage. Love that thing!!
I guessed $5k in damages. My wreck cost just under $4k as well. Thanks for explaining the process of what happens afterwards. Customers can be impatient. Glad you came out of it unscathed. 👍🏻
Glad to hear you’re OK. I’m an adjuster and do recognize the invoice does have noticeable items like engine guard, bag cover and paint in addition to the ancillary costs of things no seen, such as gaskets, mechanical parts, wiring, etc. My guess is in the range of $5,700 - $8,000.
Insurance adjusters will always low ball you. Take your bike to a dealership and have the service department do a written wreck estimate. Then you can use that to negotiate the repair cost with.
When you just can't help but laugh when you think about your own accident @(2:15), is just priceless. I slipped on sand and gravel and fell over sitting at an intersection. Not moving. ACL and other knee surgery later I still crack up when I think about the accident.
Glad you made it out alright. I dropped my XL 1200 C one time while loading it in a truck = $900.00 - I know the pain bro. Thanks for sharing. I hate riding in the rain.
That is a nice route y'all took through Arkansas. That run up highway 70 from Dequeen to Glenwood and on up through Hot Springs is a good scenic route. My wife and I ride over that way a lot and we love it. It is so nice to have such good riding roads here in south Arkansas. Glad you got to see what we see all the time riding this neck of the woods. Glad to see you didn't total your bike.
Awesome, that you came out in one peace. Good thing you and your ride were outfitted properly...As riders, me for 4O years crashing is always in the back of your mind, which is a good thing. It Makes you a safer rider. Here in So Cal it’s pretty much riding season all year, I cringe when I see people riding in a T shirt shorts and flip flops. Crazy!
Glad you’re ok. Had a guy not stop for a well advertised road crew flagman that I did stop for. He missed my buddy and rear ended me. I’m waiting 4-6 weeks minimum for the painted rear fender. So all told I’m without a bike for at least 2 months maybe 3. Luckily like you I wasn’t hurt badly. Road rash on legs and some property damage as I was on a trip and had luggage loaded. My local shop has been good to me so far. Looking forward to getting my baby back tho. Totally agree on the engine guard. I had also JUST installed one before my trip. It saved my leg from a bad fracture.
I feel your pain. I went down on the 23rd. Unfortunately mine was totaled. 12k worth of damage to a 08 sportster. Luckily I was able to walk away with minor injuries. Glad your ok john.
Got into a 2 bike / 2 deer wreck in July of '18. Doing 60 down the road, my buddy hit both deer (they tried to jump the road in tandem). The one that spun off his left side hit me and laid me down. I come off the bike and go rolling down the center of the road, he went into the ditch and airborne. No major injuries on either of us ( he got some stitches and I got the road rash, some nice scars now lol) . Insurance company paid out my premium & gave me my 03 anniversary FLSTF back as totaled. I'm still working putting it back together.
Glad you're OK. I got hit 2 months ago, and I *wish* my dealership even called me once. I have had to make all of the calls. 3 weeks ago I was told a week and a half...painter just picked up my parts yesterday, and the parts have been in the shop for 3 weeks.
honestly i thought the repairs would be more. it's just money right? i'm just happy ur beautiful smiling face is still here to greet and instruct. go harley !
I was going to say $4000, pretty close. Glad you are OK. Glad the crash bar did its job, I've used mine a couple times in stopped tip-overs (full touring model), the 900+ pounds and gravity beat my muscles every time once it goes too far over.
The KEY is to take your bike (or have your bike taken to) an authorized dealership! As you said John, that's where you started, but it doesn't happen that way... especially if your insurance has you submit a 'photo claim' where an adjuster looks at pics taken by the customer who doesn't always know what to look for... like the floor board mount you pointed out. Our shop had a customer wreck his Street Glide Special going off road, the customer had the bike taken to his house, the adjuster actually came out (as you said, most don't), and completed his estimate. A huge whole in the batwing, front fender all banged up, front forks, engine guard, etc., etc. The adjuster had labor down as $25 per hour!! I don't know of ANY shop that cheap these days. So yeah, the customer got a check for $6500, but obviously that wasn't going to cover the complete repairs. We had to take more pictures and submit a supplemental claim to get the rest of the money - which took an additional two weeks. As to other dealerships and how they process wreck estimates/repairs, I can tell you that both H-D of Atlanta and FX Caprara H-D do it the exact same way (my former employer and my current, respectively). Again, glad you're ok John!! Bike parts are much easier to replace ✌
Glad you are okay. I got super close to wrecking yesterday. Took a turn too fast. I managed to save it, but I scraped a peg and ended up on the wrong side of the road in the process.
When I lates my bike down in a similar style accident I was amazed at the repair cost but the dealership did a great job they even found that the mount for my engine guard was bent so even the frame had to be replaced but I had really good insurance not plugging them or anything but USAA was great sadly I’ve been in several accidents in my life and dealt with lots of insurance companies not all are great lol
Adam Smith's Texas Harley took 4 months to repair my Street Glide, and when they returned it to me, they hadn't repaired a third of the damage. They put a new fairing shell on, but reused the broken brackets and speakers. Several fasteners were missing from the rear, and the motor mounts were damaged. They didnt even order a color matched saddlebag. I found a good Indy shop and never went back
Glad your ok. The speaker, I bought one when you were advertising it before. I use it every day in my semi since my stereo broke. Hooks up to my phone quickly. My only complaint is it takes too long to turn on and off. I also dont like the pressure that the waterproof plug for the power cable presses on plug. I leave it plugged in all day. Because I dont like plugging and unplugging everyday. So, thanks for the recommendation.
John, If you want to get sideways I'm down with that. Strap on a steel shoe, swing your leg over an XR750 and let it rip(in the dirt). Glad you're good.
Glade you’re ok, my last reck was a few years ago. I went down on the interstate after hitting a dog. I told the Dealership I took it to too not order anything till after I get the check in. When the check got here I went in and told them I wasn’t fixing the bike, man they were mad. They had ordered parts already but they cooled down when I traded the bike & check for a new Road Glide.

I'm glad you're ok brother. Stay safe out there.
I am glad that you are ok! I was in an accident with my bike August 18th. 3 broken ribs, and a lot of road rash (both arms) did not have a jacket on. I am hoping to have my bike repaired in the next 6 months.
Very happy to hear that you are okay.
Glad you're ok. Sorry to hear what happend. I love your bike! Cant wait to see it back in all its glory!
Glad your okay man! I had a guy pull out in front of me on my 14 breakout and my repair order was almost 7k and I also was able to ride the bike home from the scene. Thank God for insurance
Glad you’re ok and you had other riders with you. Hope repairs go quickly and smoothly.
Bummer about your accident, Seriously glad you and the crew were ok! Great information on how the whole process of the claims are done! Thank you
Insurance adjusters will always low ball you. Take your bike to a dealership and have the service department do a written wreck estimate. Then you can use that to negotiate the repair cost with.
Glad that you are okay sir. God bless you and all of the riders worldwide
Glad you are OK, bikes are replaceable. Also, thanks for sharing your experience as it shows even the most experienced rider can have trouble.
Glad you are OK. Thanks for all the videos.
Glad you made it through the wreck ok! The bike can be fixed. Stay safe, brother!!
I bought 2 of those speakers with your discount AWESOME BLUETOOTH SPEAKERS !!! GREAT PRICE ... BIG DIRTY CRASHED THUMBS UP ! Glad your ok Brother
As someone who works in an autobody shop I thank you for this video sir!
John. So happy you weren't hurt. Love your videos.
Sorry to hear about your accident but glad you’re ok. Thanks for sharing!
Great informational video. Blessed that you are not injured. Rubber side down John .... RUBBER SIDE DOWN!
honestly i thought the repairs would be more. it's just money right? i'm just happy ur beautiful smiling face is still here to greet and instruct. go harley !
Glad you’re OK. Good information regarding fluids etc. Get her fixed and get back in the saddle!
Excellent video John...as usual. Glad to hear you are okay. Very complete info, thanks !
Awesome discount on the “Kove”. Thanks brotha!!
Glad you're okay....and good to see you have a shop that can take care of the damage! 👍👍👍👍😃😃😃😃
Bummer man, but it could have been much worse...Glad you're alright and your ride is repairable!
good stuff on going over this. glad things are good with you and glad that you are able to get it fixed under your insurance and the adjuster agreed.
Glad you are ok!!
Hate that it happened, but glad it happened after the bring it home rally!
And this is one of the reasons I ponied up for RDRS. John, glad you're unscathed.
We rode through the same rain on the way back to Shelbyville TN. Glad you’re ok!
The Mighty Maxwell. Happy you're safe and the boots are OK.
I found a good Indy shop and never went back
Glad you're alright. Too bad for the bike, but bikes can be repaired.
glad to see your not hurt and your ok, get your wheels fixed stay safe, that reminds me I need to buy a rear Guard.
Duuuuuuuude that sucks. That does mean new parts though and new creations!!! Glad youre ok
3750.00 but i had forgotten about the helmet...
Glad you're ok!!
Glad to hear you are okay!
