Most kpop groups prior to BTS didnt sing live on award shows. Still a lot of groups dont. BTS got so much hate in the beginning people were just looking for anything to shit on them for. BTS always performed live, maybe because of namjoon & yoongi's underground rap background. Thats why often when you see them live, they'll intentionally not sing a few words just to prove that they were singing live.
Now its more common for groups to sing live, but there's still a ton who do not. ARMYs like to joke that BTS aren't really good at *everything*, the 1 thing they admittedly suck at is lip syncing lol. Its very obvious when they do it & it's super funny. BTS started the majority of trends that a lot of groups do now, and if they didn't start some of them, they certainly popularized them! 💜
I mean, I am ARMY, but I wouldn't say it was BECAUSE of BTS singing live that things changed...
Because I don't think things actually changed much, some sing live, some don't, as you already said, it was like that before in 3rd 2nd and 1st gen, and it still is like that... Also, in TV show like Musik Bank, Inkigayo, they don't have much choice, not even BTS, groups might sing live but production will broadcast the pre recorded track louder anyway (pre record is different than the original track)...
Nonetheless BTS does sing live, and it did bring them attention, but so did Shinee, EXO... groups that came before them and SEVENTEEN, GOT7... groups in the same gen as them... Still BTS had more attention for other things, and that's what makes them special
BTS are one of those few groups who could and would never lip sync. Many groups do sing live but not 100%, they do lip sync sometimes. But there are some very few groups who sing 100% live, BTS are in those very few groups.
People say, BTS vocals are not good, but I can say many idols out there who might have better vocals can't sing live properly. So, them singing live and sounding perfectly fine like they ate CD is what makes them better than most of the groups.

I am ARMY and exaggerations like this are why people call us fanatics. Many groups sing live, and BTS does use backing tracks and lip syncs occasionally during very hard choreo....like everyone else.

Have you ever watched the American SNL live performances they did? They did an amazing job and Suga did his rap with a different rhythm just to prove it was live. It rocked and how they modified the dance routines for the tiny stage was just so professional.
I love BTS live. Though there’s always a backing track, BTS takes pride in singing live ( on top of the backing tracks ) unlike many artists who just lip sync

You must not miss out on Jin's Live Performance of "Epiphany". There is even a great compilation of all of his performances of this song which he is famous for. Jin has written and released other songs too. What's extraordinary is he started out with zero musical background to writing songs. And he taught himself to play the guitar and piano. His solo song and MV of "The Astronaut" is so good. He worked with Chris of Coldplay to write it. Heres another video to check out. Jin flew to Argentina to premiere his song on Coldplay's concert stage. That performance and Behind the Scenes is great for viewing and inspiration! So. Thought you would want to know.
The big thing with Sugar is, he always wants to smack haters by showing them, yes, I am singing live! So I can see Sugar requesting his mic be set like that on purpose.

Thank you for reacting to 'Butterfly'. It's one of the purest, clear cut, gentle songs from their album. The stage performance for this - like the one you just saw - is exquisite in its movements. There is also the "Butterfly : Prologue Mix" 'live' version which would be great to react to. That has a version with only the 4 vocalists, and that one will just move your soul. Many of them don't have a music video or a dance practice. Some are complete albums in another language. Some are side projects. These boys are Amazing! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

My favorite BTS live performance is Let go and Run BTS ( busan).
This song made me a fan of BTS. ARMY made me ARMY - but this song blew my mind.
one of japanese bts's song you probably never heard of is Ano Bashode (Like pt.2), it's really awesome.. it has the life perfomance too, even the dance practice is really cool..
Some of the venues go with the loud track by default and artists have to apply pressure to get them to let them actually perform live. Dunno about the specifics but it's more likely to be in that direction on the big shows.
There's an example with TXT royally pissed off - I think it was at MAMA - because their track was too loud and at one point their mics weren't even on. They *shouted* to be heard over the track, very angrily. I think if you look up "txt monochrome diamond" you'll probably find it. I was very proud of our boys for making their displeasure known 😁

The Prologue Mix version (they performed it at the Busan concert), is the superior version IMO. I know it's too long to perform on music shows which is why this is the shortened version. But poor Seokjin really gets the raw deal becasue of it. Which is a shame as honestly his small part actually stood out to me.
I never make comments about line distribution, I trust them, they know what they're doing and I know that they discuss all this behind the scenes. So I'm sure he'd speak up if he felt it was unfair, so who am I to question it?

My all time favourite live performance by BTS is their MAMA 2018 performance of Airplane Pt2 in Hong Kong. I really enjoyed that you picked up on the telltale signs that they are singing live.

How about a song that even most ARMY don't know about? BTS doing a cover of an 8Eight song on the Golden Disk Awards in 2017. 8Eight were one of the first artists with BigHit, a pre-BTS group. One of them is still with BigHit as a soloist, Lee Hyun. The song is called Without a Heart. Just know that there is a mistake in the song because SUGA's mic did not work during his part but he went on like there was nothing wrong, real professionals even way back then.

A voz dele é grossa e imponente mas também é delicada e doce em certas canções , ele é barítono mas consegue fazer falsete tranquilamente porque ele era obrigado a fazer falsete o tempo todo na marra o tempo todo no bts oque eu achava um absurdo mas por isso também então ele virou nota 10 em falsete mesmo tendo a voz natural bem grave , e por fim ele fala diferente dos outros meninos , calma com a voz sedutora gostosa de ouvir e canta diferente também 😅😅😅 v é um mistério da natureza 💜🇧🇷

My favorite live performance is UA-cam’s Dear Class of 2020 Spring Day. V and Jin gave their flawless vocals. You can see RM giving a genuinely sincere shoutout to V mid performance and Jin flicking a smile as he does the ad libs. Testament of how good of a singer they themselves know their memebers are. Not to mention Hobi and all the others also sounded amazing.
V really have soulfull voice, sometimes it growl, sometimes it happy, sometimes it sentimental...

BTS got so bad, they got to stipulate , a couple ofthe stations did them dirty early on and after abut 2016, Bang put his foot down, even with MAMA's as far as singing live, mic settings etc.
