  • While excessive noise is common with this model reissue (see video two in this playlist for the culprit), this amp had it particularly bad.
This one had been butchered by previous "techs" trying to fix the noise issue, so in addition to the big underlying problem I also had to undo their work. I don't show a lot of the "before" but I do show the "after."

These reissues are built to a price. They aren't "boutique" by any means. This amp can be had for £1100 in the UK new. My 25 years old JTM45 reissue has always been relatively noisy, but is still alot quieter than my old 50w plexi. And both are alot quiter than my 74 silver deluxe reverb. You can go insane trying to get a silent amp but I find i just play 'em and try not to obsess.

I can confirm every issue you raised regarding the power transformer misalignment on the Marshall BBRI (mine has it, too). I now look very carefully at power/output transformer orientations on amps. Have you ever seen that issue in any other brand of amps? I was binge watching your UA-cam content and I that ought I saw a picture in a slideshow of various amp chassis in one of your videos that looked like it had that same misalignment? Sorry I don't recall which video it was in (looked like a newer brand -- both transformers were black) and I can't seem to find it again.

I have a first year (1989) reissue of this amp; they are also famous for their pc boards cracking. Incredible about how Marshall forgot to build their amps right. That issue on the orientation of the OT is just nuts.

Anybody who says “all marshalls do that” obviously haven’t played enough of them

Geez… glad I opted to rebuild an Ao35 into an 18watt lite rather than buying one of these. It sounds fantastic and was only about $300 including a 12” Tone Tubby Mary Jane ceramic! Granted ,it’s only about 14 watts or so but I usually don’t turn the VVR up more than half way anyway. It DOES sound best all the way up,tho. If the 5y3 is changed to a GZ34 ,a few more watts can be squeezed out but it loses some sponginess. I LOVE the cabs of these reissues, tho. Are they actual wood or MDF?

Right after I got back from Afghanistan with money to burn, I went to my nearest (now closed lol) GC, as they had a used one at a decent price.
