She started singing from a young age as a way to overcome a speech problem caused by the trauma and abuse she suffered at the hand of her mother, who abandoned her at an early age with an injured collarbone on the streets of Russia. There were 9 singers who were also the judges and critiqued each other. There were 9 genres of music they had to perform over the course off the show. Thus Diana sang in many different styles.
Diana Ankudinova is 18 years old in this video, singing a very unique cover of Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love. She's a contralto, and a commanding stage presence.

Diana (dee-ah-na) was abandoned at a bus stop in the winter with a broken collarbone by her abusive mother at the age 3 and placed in an orphanage, diagnosed with cognitive impairment. Her adoptive mother had her enroll in singing lessons to help with some speech problems due to abuse and neglect. Her singing talent was immediately noticed and the rest, as they say, is history. It's a safe prediction that you'll have goosebumps and say that's the most unique voice you've ever heard.
Diana is one of the most talented singers of her generation. I think that the most talented, but let's be objective - one of the talented. The range of her voice... This cover of "Human" by Rory Charles Graham, better known as Rag'n'Bone Man's, now belongs to Diana and it really demonstrates that Diana Ankudinova has a true contralto sound which is a rare female voice type. In particular, the tone quality, timbre, the roundness of her sound, her resonance, and the depth of her voice define her as a "dramatic contralto", the rarest of the rare type of contralto. Diana is also a real polyphonic singer which in itself is also a rare talent and is a vocal technique that creates two different tones at the same time which makes it sound like two different voices at the same time. Diana does this through the resonance which she creates by using the airflow through the lungs, throat, mouth, and tongue placement. This is the most notably lowest sounding of the 15yr old Dianas early competition Recordings but you need to here Wicked game or Rechenka she is capable of singing as a contralto and higher... She has superb control and stage presence.. shes still only 18 and has won another major TV entertainers competition.

Diana performed this song on the show You Are Super, which was a singing competition for orphaned and disadvantaged children. This was her second year on the show, a "Champions" edition for finalists from previous shows. She won the previous year.
She was 15 when she sang Human. If you like her stage presence and that tribal sound you should listen to Rechenka (The River) which she sang at 14.
It is based on Russian folktales about a young betrothed orphan girl who goes to the river, the boundary between the living and the dead, to ask her deceased mother's blessing for her marriage.

15 year old Diana is shocking indeed. Watch her perform modern Folk in Rechenka. It's ten times more amazing than this...and Human always shocks people. Wicked Game is also a good choice for her at this age. If you like French then Dernière Danse is probably her most popular song historically on UA-cam. Then you have her recent spectacular performances on Russian TV a few months back....just jump in. She's one of a kind. Nobody sounds like her.
