  • HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS! My last video of 2023, let's welcome in the New Year! In this video, we show you how to make Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee from scratch and give you an idea of whether it's worth your time. We start with where to buy all the ingredients, then show you the recipe and method, and finally, we give it a taste test. We also discuss the advantages and disadvantages of making your own Hokkien Prawn Mee. So, sit back and watch to see if it's worth your time and effort.
We pit our homemade Penang Hokkien Prawn Mee against a hawker's to see which one reigns supreme. We take you through the entire cooking process, from buying the ingredients to the recipe and method. Then, we give it a taste test and compare it to a hawker's version. Watch this video to see who comes out on top!
Our journey starts at Chowrasta Market, but first we get a taste of Everyday Hokkien Mee at Tian Tian Lai Coffeeshop just next to the wet market. I talk to the kopitiam owner and also Hokkien noodles seller for some tips and it is indeed a lot of hard work! Hope everyone has a great 2024!!! Happy New Year!

Thank you so much for the Halal Hokkien Mee recipe.
It's so eay to follow and mouthwatering.
I like your opinion about how time consuming it is.
Once in a while it's worth cooking.
I like your sambal, easy peasy!
Thanks and a Happy New Year to you and your family members and friends for 2024. From Dublin/ Ireland.

It's now 5 pm evening in Dublin.
      It's winter and 7 °, freezing cold.
A nice bowl of your hokkien mee would've been a heart warming treat for me.
Looking fwd to more of your videos, Thanks.

It's interesting to know you were studying in Scotland.
      Were you in Edinburgh?
At the moment it's severe snow in Scotland.
      Did you try Haggis?
I've watched your previous videos, I like all of them.
Malaysia tops the list for the Best varieties, quality and taste for food on offer.
I like Yong tau foo , and the lists is endless.
The prices in Malaysia are peanuts compared to Dublin.
There's very few Malaysian restaurants and they are not authentic. They will Rob your wallet off every penny you got.
      Once again Thanks.

Comparing the hawker food and home cook very much different. Yeah! It taste delicious outside but we do not know what they have put inside. Home cook much better, you maybe able to watch what you put on, not too much salt or no MSG(drink throat dried after ate the food). Btw.... I tot you went to market, alone but I noticed, you brought along your wife, 2nd daughter and son. Very familiar people. Haha. Syabas! You have becomes qualified chef. Yr family members which we are not recognised came over to eat yr Hokkien Mee Soup sambal. Umami. Next time, there will be Udaddy. I know, I'm sounds Corny. Haha 😂

Happy New Year bro!!! 😄 Ya lah ,my eldest daughter went for bowling practice. My daughter sometimes helps me hold the camera for the videos!
Yes, you are right, at home we control the quality and ingredients we wish to use... also that is why we can never 100% replicate the hawker's flavours because we don't use MSG and our quantities of bones etc. are less at home. I cooked for some friends and family, my mother and father etc... we got about 30 bowls of noodles from my soup. 😁

I can't get local ingredients where I live. I ordered a jar of Malaysian kaya on Amazon a few weeks ago and I am eating it like gold.

    • @pishedbloke
      @pishedbloke  10 місяців тому +1

Oh, kaya is actually very easy to make... I can show you! All you need are eggs, coconut milk (santan), sugar and pandan leaves (are they available in your Asian grocery store?). You can just use the santan which comes in Tetrapaks, it is fine, and keeps longer than fresh coconut milk.

@@tomwong917 I have been to Chinatown in Toronto and they have almost everything there, not sure which city you live in. In New Zealand we found pandan (also called screwpine) leaves frozen at Asian supermarkets

Wah so tedious la want to prepare and cook hokkien mee. Also need plenty of cooking utensils. I'm so used to make rice cooker/one pot biryani 😂. Dont need a lot of periuk and wok.

Hehehe that is why, I can't complain about some food prices. A bowl of noodles takes 2 minutes to blanch, but behind the scenes, it takes a few hours of work just to prepare the stock etc. Happy New year bro... may this year bring you more rezeki than the last!
