I love being a straight natural! I've been natural since 2008. My hair thrives better when it is straight. When I do the curly hair, I have to rehash every few days and use a lot of product. When it's straight, my routine has less products and less breakage, and it is pass my bra strap. I only wash and flat iron every 3 weeks.

My hair is permanently straight now from heat styling meaning it doesn't revert to kinks, curls or waves when wet, and I thoroughly enjoy it. Best decision I ever made for my multi-textured hair 👍🏿

I agree. My hair never went back to a curly state a couple of months ago, so instead of trying to conjure up a curl that I don't have, straight is the way I decided to go.

Regular pressing will break down the hair follicle. It will be trained to stay straight and hair can grow with the right stylist pressing it on a regular basis. This is great for those who don't want chemicals as you said. There was a time when pressing was all that was done and those black women stylist from back in the day knew how to give what we called a hard press - I guess that's now called a silk press.

      That's called heat damage

  • @healingv1sion

I have been heat training since 2007. My hair is thriving! I only have breakage when I neglect my hair. When I sweat a lot it does immediately revert back but honestly I don't care; I keep my hair washed and I trim it on a schedule. Just keep hair well maintained, covered when you are out in humid conditions, and protected and it will thrive. My hair started right below my ears and now last I checked the length with a dead hair and I'm almost at 30 inches, straightened. My last perm, the stylist said perms were thinning my hair so that scared me and I never looked back. And now with the news that perms are causing internal body changes, I'm glad I did.

Omg that’s amazing! ❤️ I’ve had the best results as a straight natural, and yes it can be damaging in a way but not nearly as dangerous as relaxers and the chemicals in them. Thank you for the feedback ❤️

How often do you wash your hair?

  • @DanteVelasquez
    @DanteVelasquez 11 місяців тому +5

The chemical damage cause by relaxers is way worse than that from heat training. If the silk press is done right then your hairs integrity will remain strong and you only see a pattern change. Relaxers break the bonds, change the pattern and weaken the hair. It remains in a fragile state from then on, and the point where the regrowth comes in is very weak and prone to breakage. You also get more split ends and it's harder to retain length. Regular hot tool straightening is a much better way to go 🙂

What I enjoyed most about this video was the honesty. A way to help with the health of the hair if one decides to go this route is to make sure to get trims when needed (which will be more often since heat is being used often). Also, an alternative to wrapping at night would be to pin curl the hair. Pin curling preserves the body of the hair better and doesn’t make the hair as oily as quickly as wrapping does.

Im glad you pointed that out about heat training and what it ‘is’, so to speak, because it makes a difference when you flat iron/straighten with every single wash versus straightening your hair every so many washes. I am currently heat trained and i just had the brazilian keratin treatment, which helped considerably with anti reversion and humidity defiance. Its a night and day difference in the feel of my hair. But the key is that i make a point to straighten every time i wash my hair, and im not afraid to turn up the heat to get the job done. Loss of texture comes along with this process but if you wear your hair only straight then it technically doesn’t matter. My hair does very well with heat, it falls right on out with chemicals. So for me it is certainly not a more sensible option to ‘just relax it’ as i tire of ignorant people saying.

I'm using the Beautiful Textures products. Some people claim it's doesn't work but what I've found is that if it's your first time using it, the change will be minimal but I promise you your hair will be soft and manageable. My hair is extreme 4C if there's such a category 😅 but after using the texture release product, it didn't fall out when combing and was so unbelievably soft and silky. I'm sold forever. I used the texture release products and Biosilk serum when hot-combing.

    Exactly..
A relaxer breaks your hair down,, Exactly like NAIR or VEET. The strands get the life sucked out of them . There are ways to relax the hair safely, but it gets stressful when a person has THICK OR LONG HAIR..
It's east to relax a smedium density shoulder length afro or even thin hair that's down someone's back but if you have Super Thick , and long VIRGIN hair, because you've been natural for years or your whole life it can be traumatic .
I had the most traumatic experience of my life, trying to relax a head of 4C hair that was thick enough for 4 grown ass people and took 2 ENTIRE containers of relaxer and 1/ 2 of a third to cover 19' long 4c hair. So much pressure that I would be the one to destroy that hair. And even though she was extremely happy with the initial result I was sad and regretful that I agreed. I only gave in because if I hadn't, she may have ended up having it done by someone who didn't care for her hair the way I did.
The allure is remembering the swing and bounce from that first perm. Lol RESIST AT ALL COSTS.. And if you do, mix w a good cream conditioner and coat your ends in safflower oil. (It will keep the ends pretty and feathery. Not split )

Hello. This is very interesting, I'm also looking for an alternative to relaxers as I don't want any harsh chemicals. This might be just what I need but I have a few questions. How much easier does heat training make detangling your hair after you wash it and how long does detangling take for you to do with heat trained hair as appose to natural hair? How many silk presses did it take for your hair to stop reverting back every time you washed your hair? As in how long does it take to get to the heat trained state where the hair doesn't revert back?

Ohh no, if you have heat trained/damaged hair, you should not relax it. You would have to make a choice either straightened your hair through heat or chemicals, but I would not recommend trying out straightening through heat and then moving to chemicals if you don’t like it. Your hair at that point is just too damaged for a relaxer.

I’m in Georgia so I can definitely relate to the humidity, but since I’ve been heat trained my hair doesn’t really revert much it may swell a little but that’s about it, & around my neck if I sweat in the back, kind of puffs up but still not super noticeable. & as far as swimming I’m not too sure, I’m guessing it will curl or revert once in water but I would just use a blow dryer with a comb detachment & heat protectant to stretch it back out if you don’t want to actually reflat iron it all over again. Hope this helps ❤️
