  • As we continue our series on highlighting American manufacturing we stop by Factory 8 and visit JR who is working on our North Maine Double Coat.
JR has a lot of knowledge of our garment design and construction. He helped us make a great deal of progress when we first went into production, and we have worked with him steadily since in 2014.
Check out our website for more info on this coat and our full collection.

I gotta say, the more I learn about WeatherWool, the more interested I get. I dig Ralph. Regular guy, no BS honest quality product with a sustainable differentiator. Bonus: A Jersey company.

Ralph, I am really liking how the Maine coat is coming along. It will be a major (save up for one) purchase down the road. My first response on the collar length , it is stylish but I personally would prefer more collar for cold and wind, even with the hood attachment option (just one customer's opinion). I like the length of the coat giving more coverage. Your designer and his team seem top-notch! Thumbs up. -Wayne K. in South Dakota

THANK YOU and we certainly agree that we have some excellent help! We also agree that the collar needs to be more substantial, and we are looking at the collar of the All-Around Jacket as a basis for the next prototype NMDC. Thank You -- Ralph

Yay. another informative and outstanding vid showing your quality and how it is achieved in every step of the creation of all of your products.
Your designer grabbing at the sleeve seam in the front just below the shoulder is a good indication he is aware of the fit in that area and it may need to be altered for a better fit. I find most garments today are not fitted very well in that area. He also checked the ease and fit when reaching for something. He even said "driving". He is constantly thinking about the fit as he is wearing that garment.

THANKS, and YES, you got it! Shoulders are very difficult because of the range of motion and all the separate parts of the pattern coming together there. We will be making more room in that spot! JR has always provided us with valuable advice regarding "the details"! We appreciate your interest! -- Ralph

Who would have thought in the center of NYC

For well over 100 years, the Garment District of NYC has been the hub of USA's clothing business. And although so much of what Americans (and everyone else) wear is manufactured outside the USA, the Garment District still offers what a company likes ours -- and many others -- needs. People are often surprised that WeatherWool is headquartered just outside Manhattan. But proximity to the resources of the Garment District is very important to us. Also, the mills that we work with are located within 2-3 hours drive. THANKS - Ralph

Knowing all of this just makes me feel proud to put my weather wool garments on. It’s weird to say but it provides a connection to each craftsman along the way. I really enjoy that. Thank you 🙏
