- The stars of the show at Pratica di Mare this weekend were a TF-104G Starfighter from the USA, a newly-restored G.91R and Europe's only airworthy Sabre - a CL-13B Mk.6 from France.
The classic jets flew with their modern counterparts: a bomber formation comprising the AMX A-11B Ghibli, A-200 Tornado and G.91, and a fighter formation comprising the Sabre, F-104, F-2000A Typhoon and F-35A Lightning.
Held at Pratica di Mare just outside Rome, the Manifestazione Aerea del Centenario dell'Aeronautica Militare celebrated 100 years of the Italian Air Force, featuring a wide range of current and former Italian Air Force types.

4 stormo
Un suono familiare anche per me
Each of them, in his or her own way, represents a symbol of Italian military aviation, proudly bearing the colors and heritage of their country.
The thrust reversers in the tornado are awesome
Il fischio dell'f104 è inimitabile
So much love for the old Starfighter, called "lo spillone" or "the big nail".
Basically a wingless rocket impossible to control, and an icon of the old age interceptors, all about speed.
The Aeronautica Militare was still keeping them in regular service until the early 90ties. It lands at 400 kmh to prevent stalling, impossible to land anywhere without para-braking.
It's like a 1950 formula one car only a spectacular pilot can really control.
Former F104 pilots all say "there is nothing, nothing quite like it".
They kept them even later than that! The Starfighter's farewell airshow was held here at Pratica di Mare in May 2004. They continued to serve on QRA duties until October of that year and flew with 311 Gruppo/Reparto Sperimentale Volo on flight test missions into 2005.
@@ThisisFlight what I meant was " as interceptors ", the natural role of the Starfighter. I worked in Sigonella Nato airbase in 1984, and there was a squadron of 6 104s permanently ready, tanked and loaded with air to air missiles, often in the middle of the night the alarm sounded for the emergency drill, and the planes were supposed to be at 20.000 feet, flat out, in just 10 minutes. Pilots were spending the night in a cabin near the aircraft, all suited up.
Americans were flying the F14s at the time, but there was very much respect, especially when the italian pilots were doing evolutions such as vertical ascending or loops, which the 104 is really not designed for.
"You people are really insane" they used to say.
Later, the 104 was still used as a reconnaissance aircraft, but no longer as a fighter.
The Tornado era was beginning (by the way, we still fly over 70 Tornadoes, together with the Eurofighter Typhoons... I suppose we like too much old things here).
Wow !!! That is marvellous on these aircraft in action for the 100th anniversary of the Italian Air Force especially the F-35A and the F-86 Sabre and the F-104 Starfighter is cool 😎👍
Absolutely epic. What an incredible line up of fast jets. That F-104 is such an incredible aircraft 😎
I love the G91 Yankee, sadly it is not well known, I rarely find any videos about it.
Wow, I still miss the Starfighter. I hope that one day a restored Starfighter will fly again here in the Netherlands and give me the howl goosebumbs :)
Great video, thanks!
J79 Howling... Pure sound 🤩
The 104 picked up a bird strike.
Second video I've seen of this today. Hit in the left fuselage just aft of the intake. A glancing blow. You can see it falling away at 4:23.
The other video has a slightly different angle and you can see it bouncing off.
A near miss for that intake and I don't believe the pilot took notice.
We had a terrible problem with starlings and red wing blackbirds at Barksdale AFB when I was serving.
Also saw a Blue Angel loose an engine in Houston in the 90s. I don't think anyone in the crowd around me noticed but me. I had just seen so many of them before.
The Angels immediately went into a dynamic distraction mode while the crippled bird sneaked around behind and landed short if the show line.
I was watching him and a guy standing near me said, "Hey you're missing the show."
I said, "Oh no I'm not."
Wonderfully and amazing! Thank you.
Man that Starfighter still looks like a needle and is probably the fastest of them all. And the best sound too.
Absolutely correct, the 104 is the fastest.
👍 I like this sound ~ F-104G , From Taiwan 🇹🇼!
Amazing how much smoke the old J79-GE-19 engines put out compared to the F-35!
Still wonderful though! Caio baby
glad i grow up in that f-104 area, most beautiful fighter jet ever
❤ Back seat is empty please allow me to fly...
G 91 🙏🏻🖤💫
Buon compleanno, miei cari compatrioti.
Awesome
I like it they are powerful
You can watch a full 60 minute documentary film of the entire show here: ua-cam.com/video/l6Phx2tc9pQ/v-deo.html
Hitting this airshow and Antidotum Airshow Leszno in a single weekend was incredible, but now I am absolutely knackered! A Leszno episode is also in production.
From WC USA, Does anyone else wonder if this fighter with 2023 Electronics, to help guide and fly it wouldn’t be One Hell of a Fighter Aircraft?!
Look how straight the F104 flies compared to the others
#ItaliansDoItBetter
Il fiat g-91 era pilotato da Molinaro veramente?
io cero e stato stupendo
Mancava solo l'ortografia 😂😂😂
Is that the spotters day, looks fairly sparse
Filmed on Sunday. It was packed in the middle of the showground, but those of us prepared to walk a little were rewarded with plenty of open space.
@@ThisisFlight that's right, morning session was not too crowded if you walked a little bit. I was exactly in front of the 104 (where It was parked) and there was plenty of space there.
