It's all good. I think I'm going to chalk this up to either a slip of the tongue or a Mandela Effect. Somehow, I crossed into another parallel reality where what I said is false, but not where I come from!
      That must be it...
Nah, I think ever since I was young watching Space Jam as a kid, I've always confused the two.
Thanks for setting the record straight!

You can still feel that Hades is cunning even when playing host he is playing a game of chess. When he offers them food he knows that if they pertake in it they are stuck in Hades with him. Giving him an upperhand in if they do it but also threatening them slightly. And he does it again by saying he will grant them "sanctuary" but Hades doesn't go into detail as to what that sort of deal does for them exactly. He is being both upfront but not showing all his cards. And he has an air of almost like he is hurt at the implication that he would do something so juvenile and thoughtless. Knowing he'd be the first suspect. He is better than that. But the moment Kronos is brought up, his brave face falls and he is more serious now.
    Love this portrayal.

14:55 YESS thank you for noticing that! A lot of reactors first impression of Hades is that he is kinda of goofy or not what they expected but the fact is that Hades is the most misunderstood god from greek mythology that has been screwed by mainstream culture to be "evil" just because he is associated with death or the underworld. He is not devil or satan. But he is more complex than that and as soon as Percy mentioned Kronos, you could see Hades face expression turning darker which is also another side of him that is explored further in the books!
Love your reactions. I think you'll be super satisfied with the last episode because it will just be the beginning of this amazing story!

I confess I both look forward to new episodes to react to and dread it at the same time! There's always that part of my brain that is reminding me that everyone has been so lovely to you NOW, but don't you dare make one mistake. Haha.
Even though I do stage theatre and have played and sang "Eidelweiss" on guitar with a Japanese class of 150 in an auditorium to near 5,000 parents. There's something of a panic attack that I go through right up until I start recording reactions. That's why I opened this one singing. Haha. Get the jitters out!
I'm so thankful and glad to have had your guidance and support throughout the journey! I can't tell you how much it means to read such comments, especially after editing this video for 5 hours today!
I appreciate you! And I look forward to the next episode and the beginning of another adventure!

LOVEEE your thoughts on Hades- I felt the same way even as a reader of the books like “oh that’s not- there’s more here with him where is it.” And then moments later spotting the look in his eye and going OH YEAH OK THATS HADES FOR SURE and it’s so fascinating. EXCELLENT actor choices

    • @Noxiddar
      @Noxiddar  5 місяців тому +10

It was that look that made me go from head scratch to chills. This actor did something I've not really seen anyone else do in their performances yet. A lot of the actors draw out the emotion, whatever emotion that might be, and really put it on display, but the actor for Hades does the exact opposite. His emotions are withdrawn. His eyes change, but if you look, in that moment it's like the actor transported himself to some place dark. That was authentic. That's not typically something you imitate on the spot like that. But then what made my brain do a loop de loop was how quick he came out of it. Like we watched the mask slip for a moment.
I might have missed it initially had I not paused to talk about his character in that moment. I might have thought, "Oh, he got serious." But that's quite a bit more there than just serious.
I heartily concur - brilliant choice of actor for Hades!

I appreciate the kind words! What's really wild is sometimes I don't remember what I said. This is one of those things even I watched me say for the first time in the editing software. Haha. Usually, my reactions are a mix of internal conflict between, "Hurry, say something!" And "Hurry, pause it! You have an actual thought!"
There exists another level where's I must be inspired by the muses, because I don't remember saying things, or if I do, I always feel like it's random and disconnected, but then while I'm editing it's like "hey, that actually makes sense."
The best place you can ever be in life is the place where even you can surprise yourself.
I'm living the good life right now. 😎
I'm glad you are enjoying the reactions! I enjoy reading your thoughts! The next episode is our finale! Holy cow!

I like the subversion of expectations with Hades. It feels similar for the audience and for Percy and Grover. They walk in expecting to confront the Big Bad Villain behind the lightning theft and the scary voice in Percy's dreams, only to realize that Hades just wants back his helm so that he can return to minding his own business
I think Hades is often portrayed as Devil-like in media because many people incorrectly assume that the Greek Underworld is like a copy of the Christian Hell. As far as I know, Hades is generally not portrayed negatively in mythology

From what I remember, he’s one of the less evil gods

    • @Noxiddar
      @Noxiddar  5 місяців тому +4

I think that is amazing. I'm pretty sure I was expecting a more imposing figure. Not necessarily evil. But certainly darker and brooding. So it really did catch me by surprise that there was a congenial entertaining host with a shrewd eye for business instead.
Even if you asked me to conjure an image of Hades who "was misunderstood, not evil" that still would have been the farthest thing from mind.
I think what sold the entire performance was that dark expression at the mention of Kronos. It was definitely highlighted in my freeze frame while I talked, but then the moment I hit play, his expression turned again.
I realized I loved the portrayal because that performance was much more cerebral in that it wasn't about physical acting, like I had commented with others, but this was something far more ingrained in the actor's performance. They were taking themselves some place in those moments. It was so fascinating to watch!
Great thoughts. I really look forward to being able to read and dig deep into these characters at own pace, because the story and the show MOVES (in a good way!)

@@Noxiddar I really like hearing your thoughts on the story itself, as well as on stuff like acting. I, too, love the shift in Hades when Kronos is mentioned. Like ...oh, this may not be just another bullshit Olympian drama anymore... yikes
Hades is definitely one of the most interesting gods to me in the Riordan books (alomg with Hermes), and readers definitely get to see different aspects of him in during different stages of the story

I look forward to digging into that! I think I was so caught off guard in the reaction video, I forgot to really say what I thought about him. He was still kind of an enigma. And, really, still is.
But of course, that's what makes him a fascinating character study!
Thank you for your insight and wisdom!

Thank you for the reaction and your sensitivity. I learn a lot through your point of view.
You even appreciated the Crusty scene, the colors... the acting... the strange mix of ancient culture with modern everyday life.
Yes, this serie has "Neverending story" vibes and can be dark at times. But even as a child, I liked stories that could be serious and have layers, where death existed.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Percy Jackson and the Olympians is such a wonderfully realized production. They've assembled an incredible range of young talent, veterans, and even some actors I'd never seen ply their trade. Everyone has brought something special to this production, whether it's makeup and special effects, the cinematic score, costuming, set location, set design, environment artist, cgi animators, etc. This is a story that has been painstakingly brought to life as a labor of love, and it's evident in every frame of film.
I LOVE performing arts. I love film and stage theater. Or creating worlds stepping into them. The internal and external conflicts.
I could go on and on. Suffice to say, it's so easy to appreciate so many things about Percy Jackson.
Thank you for zeroing in on what it is I do. I really do try to emphasize appreciation in my reactions. I figure a lot of people will tell you what they THINK about something, and so I try to offer how something makes me FEEL as I see it and share that love and appreciation for art with as many people as possible!
My hope is that years from now, I can watch these videos of mine, and remember EXACTLY how I felt. The absolutely amazing thing is knowing that there are others out there who got to see it, too.
Have a wonderful rest of the weekend, and thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. I enjoyed reading them this morning!

I've really been impressed from the entire overall production. The acting, music, special effects, cgi, story, pacing, everything has really come together so well!
It'll be sad to see it come to an end for the season so soon with the next episode, but thankfully, there are many more adventures to have within this universe. I feel like I have an embarrassment of riches compared to when most people started and had to wait from book to book!
I agree with everything you said. I'm hoping to see more Toby Stephens in the next episode! He's a brilliant actor, and he demonstrated it by saying so much, with so few words in this episode!

this Hades reminds me of the Hades from Disney's Hercules, and i think its very accurate, hes not terrible,i might be biased bc as a percy jackson fan i consider myself a child of Hades in the fandom 😂

    • @Noxiddar
      @Noxiddar  5 місяців тому +3

He reminds me of someone who is altruistic, but tries to remain at a distance to not seem "too approachable".
I think it's evidenced by the fact he is quick to offer sanctuary to Percy and Grover, and presumably anyone else that would have been there also, only in exchange for what he believed would be the means to protect them most (The Lightning Bolt).
And yet, when the impatience flares before Percy's exit with the pearl, there's this urgency where you get the sense he can't stand to see someone enter folly. Which, to me, explains rescuing Percy's mom.
I also think it's demonstrated in how his fortress home is entirely made of right angles, his guards salute in sync, the orderly fashion that the dead are queued, and on and in to show there is an orderliness, an intention, to every aspect of the underworld.
I may be way off the mark, but I look forward to diving into the character more in the books to see for myself!
I think after this I'll take a quiz to see which god or godess I am a son of.
There's a lot of directions my heart pulls me in, so I don't want to declare here in the comments before I've had a chance to sort it all out for myself (oh snap, maybe I am a child of Hades too!) 🤣

I really like that unlike your typical evil hades that is jealous and wants to kill and take from his brothers this depiction of him was almost a refreshing twist for me. I think after this season, there's not much reason to lean into the "First Time" gimmick. I'm a fan now, for sure!
So I think I'll do all the books. The real question will be how long I'll take to get through book one. Since I'll likely be writing thoughts down instead of going off the cuff like the reactions, I'll probably have a lot to say!
I'm very much looking forward to it, but I'm not quite ready to end the show!
