  • Here is what you'll need!
    Servings: 4
    INGREDIENTS
2 pounds sirloin steak or boneless beef chuck roast, sliced thin
    1 cup beef broth
    1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    1 tablespoon sesame oil
    4 garlic cloves, minced
    4 tablespoons cornstarch
    4 tablespoons water
1 head of broccoli, cut into florets
    For serving
    White rice, cooked
    PREPARATION
    - In the insert of the crockpot, whisk together beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, and garlic.
    - Place slices of beef in the liquid and toss to coat. Cover with lid and cook on low heat for 4 hours.
    - After 4 hours, whisk together cornstarch and water in small bowl. Pour into crock pot and stir to mix well. Add the broccoli and gently stir to combine. Cover with lid and cook 30 minutes to cook broccoli and thicken sauce.
    - Serve over warm white rice. Enjoy!

I made this myself so here are my thoughts. 1. It's pretty tasty. 2. Unless you really love the taste and smell of sesame oil, cut the amount by half. 3. Keep the beef and broccoli pieces pretty large. This is in the slow cooker so things have a tendency to shrink and break apart by a lot. Other than that, very delicious.

We can't help it that western culture has evolved from using primitive utensils and that become the norm. So either embrace it or deal with it.

Just finished devouring my bowl. Delicious! I made modifications:
    1) I agree with the crunchy veggie lovers here in the comments, so I cooked the veggies for 15-20 min instead of 30. Came out perfect for me.
    2) I love veggies, so I added some chopped carrot chips in addition to 2 small jalapeños. HIGHLY recommend if you want more veggies but want variety instead of more broccoli.
    3) I love heat, so in addition to jalapeños I added some red pepper flakes to the broth mixture. Worth it!
    Enjoy!

I made this last week. Two things I'd suggest:
-The amount of broccoli really isn't enough for the amount of meat. There's like one floret for every four strips of beef. If this proportion is okay for you, you do you, but keep it in mind.
-Putting the broccoli in to cook for a half hour results in broccoli on the softer side. This seems to be what most people prefer, but if you'd like it to have a bit more crunch, put it in and cook for maybe another 15 minutes, or just cook it separately to your liking.
Otherwise it's pretty damn good. Would make again.

thanks this was helpful...did it really need 4 tablespoons of cornstarch and 4 of water? that seems like a lot of cornstarch for what seems like not much liquid

    • @Nuisance_Bear
      @Nuisance_Bear 7 років тому

Did not alter the cornstarch at all. 4 tablespoons was fine, it brings the sauce a little bit closer to gravy consistency but still pretty thin. Don't forget there's a cup of beef broth and a half cup of soy sauce too.
