I setup a watering station for a local beehive last year. There were hundreds of bees. It was a lot of fun watching them through the summer - to come and get water. Unfortunately this was from a wild hive of a neighbor - 2 houses away. And he paid a service to come and remove the hive. I'll never know what happened to all those little bees. They were my little friends last summer, so calm and they never tried to attack or sting me.
Don't be sad!! There's a very good chance that the wild swarm you bonded with was collected by a beekeeping service and transplanted to a usable beebox, it's a very common practice. Your bee friends are probably out there making honey, hell someone probably sells it near you!
Fletcher Spillers sane here ! I came to Love Bees so very much through watering them and interacting very closely with them They would follow me around the neighborhood on my bike , they always recognized me . I was so blissfully happy with them . I divorced and we sold our house , It was harder to leave those Bees then the Man . I just got 4 acres of woods and a house we’re I can have as many Bees as I want . Providing Bees with water and flowers etc is very very satisfying , They never ever stung me either
@@kendratheflynn3368 It's only African bee's that is wild. 99% of all "wild bee's" you see is when a beekeepers hive gets to full or the queen above 3-4 year old. Then she lays some egg's that the nursing bee's feed those larvae a special diet called Royal Jelly to make a new Queen. Then the old queen takes half of the colony and move to a new location. Called Swarming. Normally it's a beekeeper that comes to collect those swarms because they are so valuable for the nature and all living animals and humans. I'm a beekeeper myself but I live in the Netherlands, Europe and we get called often to gather swarms. They make you happy and you have no reason to be afraid of them because they only sting if they are getting threaten by a human. They die if they sting so that's why they avoid it until it's completely necessary. But male bee (drone) don't have a stinger. It's easy to see the difference between a working bee and a Drone. Drones are 50% bigger and the back part of it is dark and no stripes.
12:18 lol i rewatched this crash landing over and over hahah it's so adorable and humbling how bees have their own personalities and idiosyncrasies (for example, i've also read research on varying levels of dopamine and other neurotransmitters during risk-taking behaviors in both bees and humans)
I picture a bee coming into the hive loaded with bright yellow pollen. Another bee asks her "Who are you wearing and where can I get it?" Waggle dance ensues. Bees are so freaking adorable! I wish I wasn't allergic. Thank you for living my dream of beekeeping vicariously through your videos.
I am so so very glad to have your amazing footage and your knowledge . I love my girls so very much but you really bring the very best of knowledge . please don’t stop . you are doing such a great service to us Bee lovers . such beautiful footage . great gift you have , your calm , and very peaceful nature is , very I’m positive , a very special relationship with your beautiful Bees . I started my live for Bees by providing drinking station for them Texas gets brutal hot . They made me fall in love . 5 years later I stand joyfully in swarming bees without ever getting stung . mine do not sting me ever . I know them well they know me , follow me from fields when i’m in my bike ! they are so clever
I love watching the bees. Thank you so much for another amazing video, the close up views of them are stunning. I never realized how truly clumsy and out of control they look coming in for that landing. At normal speed it’s not nearly as comical. 😆
I was wondering about this! My girls, ignoring my water station near the hive, found my sprouting tray on my deck and -love- the little sprouting rooting sponges. I marked a few and saw that the same ones go back and forth all day, so I assume they were ferrying water to the hive to do whatever it is they need with it.
Your slo-mo photography is, as usual, awesome. I've been seeing this behavior on my hives and sort of assumed they were bringing in water. This confirmed my thoughts. Thank you for showing this.
I’m obsessed with your videos, even suggested to my newly retired parents to start a bee colony with a flow hive 😂. You’re very informative and your voice is soothing, I can see why they call you the Bob Ross of bees 😂
Yep, a little of both. Incredible when you consider all the different things going on at the same time in and around the hive. Thanks again for another wonderful presentation.
Bees are s o cute..must make for the thoroughly best character in cartoon entertainment! Superb magnification w/ slow mo now 'n then here..very special output! 🍸
I love bees and am constantly educating people here in the UK the differences between them and wasps, and not to kill bees. Your videos have taught me a huge amount more about these fascinating little guys. I want to second the great videography mentioned here too. Keep up the great work Fred :)
Thanks for posting, Mr. Dunn. The photography was amazing and so very impressive. Watching your videos is an excellent learning experience and the close-ups of the bees drawing water and the activities of collecting nectar - fascinating. I could watch your bee videos over and over. The activity on the landing board . . . remarkable. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
Your love of bees shows through these lovely videos. I love the closeups and even though I may never have a hive of my own I do not tire of watching bees. I subscribed when I found you and appreciate your sharing your knowledge. Thank you!! Bless you and your life.
The videos similar to this one are so informative to the context of understanding the intricate existences of theses creatures. I find it hard to come across content that feels this rewarding, even as someone who only aspires to have an apiary and for now just watches bees. Lmao
I've heard bees dances to indicate location of some places based on the sunlight polarisation. It's like a collective process: a bee start to dance (expressing how "excited" she's from his recent discovery), and others would follow this dance if they consent exploring this area. As several bees may try to convinces others to explore the place they found, they can collectively see a consensus emerge, based on how many bees are reproducing a particular dance. Dont take this for a fact, I heard that on day from Jean-Claude Amesein but I'm not sure I've exactly memorize it !
This is an absolutely beautiful video of bees at work. Your gentle, soft narration really adds wonder to the lives of honey bees. Thank you ever so much.
I appreciate your videos and your teachings. You do a great job of explaining why the bees are doing something. I always learn new things while watching.
Your videos are so informative to me as a new beekeeper and just a joy to watch. Really appreciate your efforts. Thank you. I wish my poor bees looked as amazing as yours do. Mine have been struggling through this awful spring/summer weather we have had in Virginia
This was an insanely interesting and entertaining video :) way better then national geographic or discovery channel :) your voice is much better then those programs :) saving this video to watch over and over :) Thank you!
I said the same exact thing.. one of my favs from him.. well second favorite from him. 😃 don't think Mr. DUNN realises how amazing his voice is and how soothing he actually is to listen to.... I absolutely adore him and his channel..
AWESOME video! I had no idea they consumed water. I always assumed they got everything they needed from the nectar. Thanks for an amazingly educational video!
I really enjoy the photography! Great shots of the bees and a very informative narration, too! We've wondered about the numbers of bees we see obviously "drinking" from the water in our birdbath, which I renew each morning---it is NOT unusual to see a dozen or more bees all at one time drinking water from that birdbath in the late afternoon and early evening and we imagine that they all must be heading pretty directly back to the hive, as they all head of in pretty much in exactly the same direction when done at the birdbath.
Thank you Frederick for your infor MA tion that you're putting out. I may newbie if you like I've got 3 hives and I've had him for a while for year 2 and what I'm watching on your videos is awesome you just gave me a whole bunch of information here and I want to thank you look forward to more of your videos in the learn more of the be culture thank you and God-bless
Your photography and videography is wonderful to watch. It was a little hotter than normal yesterday here in Olympia and I wandered out to watch the landing board and was excited to see several workers ‘ventilating’ the hive, taking the exact pose and positioning that you displayed in your video! Have you ever closely inspected or photographed the detritus that forms on a catch tray below a screen bottom board? I collected the waste droppings from beneath one of my hives, inspected with a strong magnifying glass, and saw a LOT of wildlife living there. Some looked like tiny spiders. Some looked like tiny ticks (possible mites). There was one small reddish beetle and one tiny white caterpillar or worm. I tried to capture pictures without success. All of these make a new beekeeper concerned. Would you ever consider producing a video of an expedition like this? Thanks for providing such amazing info.... >Thom
Where I work we had a water jug outside that held ice. It was yellow with a red top. It also had a slow leak in the spout. Honeybees first came to visit most likely thinking it was a flower. Then they discovered the water leaking out. It was fun just to sit and watch them come repeatedly throughout the day to drink their fill and leave.
I absolutely love this video. Amazing , beautiful footage. Thank you. Really needed this moment to take this all in, sit back, enjoy, listen to your soothing voice and relax.. 💛💚
So fun to watch them , this is fabulous footage . I appreciate you beyond words ! laughing at those crash landings , but to understand how and why they fan is great knowledge . I’m maybe your biggest fan now !!!
Thanks Fred, Your photography makes everything So Exciting to watch! well it's Bees - _and_ You. : } Bee look 'happy' & Healthy. How is the other Hive doing? Any more showing those signs?
Terrific video. Great info. For a first-year beek, your channel is an amazing resource. And I thought the slo-mo audio track was beautiful. Thanks for what you do. Subscribed....
Why do they look so cute? Is it the hairs. This is why I think bees are great. Along with keeping us alive of course!
Their eyes, the thorax dancing is adorable.
AGAIN, your cinematography never fails to impress, I watch in awe the shots you get and I did videography for 15 years
Thank you Mike, such a great compliment! :)

Oh wait are they using their wings to fan the area, cooling it down in the process? That's pretty cool

Frederick, when I watch bees on your up- close videos, I can see so much detail that I feel like I'm observing a large mammal at the zoo.
Good ole' Fred. Always answering the questions that need to be answered
An amazing insight, great footage too, really enjoyed this.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Loved the blonde bee. Beautiful. Each one can be so unique. Thank you for what you do. And for sharing it so thoughtfully with us all.
