Whatever you are saying about Denis Viilleneuve making a choice to emphasize a "hard" science fiction theme in Dune 2 is way way less than Frank Herbert did in the actual novels. God Emperor of Dune (the 4th Dune book) is basically a philosophy treatise masquerading as a popular science fiction novel. Denis is being true to the source material by slowly, or not so slowly, transforming these movies into philosophy books. I hope the whole normy audience walks out of Dune messiah because they "don't get it" that would make me smile.

I understand why you'd like the first one more if you like more streamlined movies and not massive scope stories, but I don't get why you say it "ALMOST lives up" when it clearly does everything the first movie had set up

For me, it's the pacing. I agree with the "almost" bc it takes on a different pace that can be a bit jarring for those who loved that aspect of Part 1.

This is is just weird how you could like the first part better. It’s such a slow build and doesn’t go anywhere till the end.

maybe because it's more authentic to the first half of the book

I know most ppl disagree with tour take, but I COMPLETELY AGREE. After watching Part 2 numerous times now, I like it more than I did initially, but I just wish Part 2 kept the same pace as Part 1. 2 was speed up it ways that I can understand that mainstream audiences would like, but part of my appreciation for the first was the slow, methodical world-building and storytelling, which got streamlined in Part 2. Thanks for your honest review.

Actually, it's slower than the book, because it's the initial parts of the book that take forever and then everything just happens. It actually follows the pace of the book pretty closely, although of course stripped of much detail. This includes the part one, because the first 120 pages of the book are slow. When the book gets going, you don't even see Rabban being killed, neither do you see the attack. It's basically "Let's do this. Boom. We're in the conversation with Emperor."
So there's fairly limited amount of things Denis could be doing if he wants to be faithful to the source material, which he obviously thinks is important.

It's highly unlikely that I'll be back in about a week and a half to leave a comment down below after I see this movie. I'm usually one and done with videos and sometimes I'll go back and recap them but it's fairly rare when I go back to a video I've seen before. So take these comments that I leave now as my comments for this movie and the video.

Just watched the early premier in imax, and im so happy to see someone else say that they liked part 1 better lol. Idk exactly what it is, but the pacing and vibe of part 1 felt sooo much better. Their was a lot more responsibility on the viewer in part 1, with part 2 kind of just spoon feeding you everything. Sadly some of the characters never really sold me on themselves either. This isnt to say its still not a phenominal movie. Can't wait for part 3! Great review 🎉🎉🎉

Dune Part 2 was amazing! So good. As much as I loved it, and believe Denis deserves best director and it deserves best picture, but I don’t feel any of the actors should be up for awards. Loved all the performances, but nothing completely stood out as Oscar worthy.

YESSSS since hearing about Dune on Screen I wanted a Meal... a heady, deep, complex nourashing meal. Not saying the first did not have those elements, but it is clear that Dune Part 1,...was intended to be an Appetizer.

Dune 2 is not a sequel and it's wrong to say that even . It's the second part of the same book dune. The first movie was part one of the the book and this is the second part of the SAME BOOK. You have to watch the first one to understand the second movie

Not liking Dune because it’s complex is one thing, but to say its “OK” for a movie to throw a bunch of exposition at you for the sake of exposition is another.
The difficulty found in the first film is quite frank with how much basic jargin is thrown at the viewers in such an in-organic fashion.
Let me explain simply with this one very critical example (coming from a major DUNE fan ;):
Why are we being told EXACTLY what spice is and how its used in an almost literal narration by Paul’s textbook during the movie? That’s kind of lame and should be something left for the viewers to discover with the VIEWING of the movie.
It’s just one example of how the movie could have had these kinds of subjects expressed better without just spouting lore constantly throughout the movie.
It can very much feel like the intent is to educate the audience on every aspect of Dune rather than focus on translating the experience of reading something EXPERIENCING it.
I love Dune part 1 and I really think this reviewer probably has a skewed review. That being said, I won’t see Part 2 till the 3rd and I really hope its a lot better than the first because I really thought the first was at best an 85/100.
I mean that as respectfully as possible not only to the artists, but the people who pay for these artists.

@@jiggymario8161 Not gonna comment one way or the other. My thoughts are there.
Just wanted to say,.... There is no 3rd film based on Dune.
There is no Dune Part Three.
      Two is all we get.
There may be a Movie based on the Novel Dune Messiah. But whether that film even gets made depends On whether Dune Part Two is a success.
Skipping Dune Part two,.... may mean Dune Messiah is never made.
      Just a thought.

I have to disagree, I can't see how that first film could be a perfect film when it really doesn't have an ending. I wouldn't be able to say the first film is a perfect movie if it's only one half of a two-part story. Not to say anything else was wrong with the film but that was my biggest issue is that it wasn't a complete story.

    • @jiggymario8161

The first part wasn’t even something incredible to gloat about for various reasons, although I commend it immensely.
I’m a major fan after seeing Part 1, but to neglect its issues is a disservice.
I want this part to be a lot better, which isn’t far from how Part 1 went, just less exposition please and more EXPERIENCE.
I hated being explained how spice worked in the first 5 minutes of the movie and sort of wished they framed it as an experience we discover with Paul’s first actual exposure to the spice.
It could have been a moment that would be more organic for viewers to feel the absolute weight and power behind the spice.
