The Shinobu is a rebadged import so the reason it smells like a blended Scotch is because it probably is a blended Scotch that's been finished in mizunara. It is nice that it's 43% instead of a flat 40, at least. It's $68 + tax from BC Liquor Stores down in Victoria, which puts it in the same price range as JW Black Label. Would you say it's competitive with a bottle of Black Label for the dollar value? If I can make a suggestion for Japanese, Nikka From The Barrel. Tad expensive for a 500ml bottle but it's 51.4% and I got as complex and strong a flavour blend as I do with JW Black Label, though the flavours themselves were completely different. Nikka FTB loves a Japanese-style highball (1 part spirit, 3 parts highly-carbonated water or soda water, and a glass stuffed full of ice), the flavour opens right up. Both Nikka and Suntory have quality offerings available in BC although some will make your wallet cry, but absolutely skip the Nikka 12 because it's not worth $250.
Great review guys thank you
Thanks for watching!
Great review, I get that syrup on nose and that mizunara is super funky.
