I'm doing the same build! Although I put a 2019 center console in a 2014 and goddamn it's a headache! But this video is very very helpful thank you! I also installed a sync 3.4 radio module.. Its a hack job rn but it functions for sound and touch. I wanted to use the 2018-2019 dash kit however the radio/hvac unit speaks a different language as far as I'm aware for can bus and well I lost all power to hvac when I had it hooked up and that's a no go in Texas during summer so I had to resort back. I will be a customer of those pockets you make for the center console! Badass
Yeah I need to get something figured out on my radio. It is the non-sync version and doesn't even have an aux-in port. I found some info on how to add it in so I will see about making a video on it. I really dislike the look of the Metra kit and aftermarket temp controls, also you'd be paying around $600-800 all in.

There’s no console at all in the 17 explorer interceptor I’m looking at. Just like an empty looking industrial-ish boxy metal brackets with some wires. I think the radio is out too but I have to take a second look. How do you replace the console in this case though and I believe one arm rest is still there the other missing.

When I went pay and pick the item up the salvage yard told me the 2017 console I chose from a different trim was not compatible. That only a base model explorer would fit. Is this true?
No, they are going off of the interchange data which will not show the console as being compatible. Any console from an 11-19 explorer will work just fine.
Curious question. I have a 2016-2019 center console from a Sport. Instead of the individual light colors per wire, I just have one wire running to each light. Any advice on trying to plug that in?
That is interesting. I have a 2016 Console that had the RGB wires. Maybe newer years switch to a LIN system like the newer F-150's did. In that case you cannot use the OEM light modules because the wire going to them are a data signal that the BCM uses to send various frequencies through and the light changes that way. If that is your situation then your only option is aftermarket LED's. I would need to see what your wiring looks like to be sure.
@depolicify I could get pictures to you, if you wouldn't mind. I'm fairly stumped after working on it the past day. I need to get a power pack to try and test the wires without installing them to see if they'd just light up blue or not.
For those who have wired their consoles for power, what wires in the console did you connect into? Ive watched several of these great videos, and just cant figure out what I should bring my spliced power wires from under dash into? I used the default cig lighter power, but am trying to get the lights and other power options functional
I pretty much show it in the video. The OEM plug is not present on the PIU so unless you are trying it install extra accessories you don't need to wire up anything.
Hey, this might sound stupid. I want to put a column shifter in my Ford Flex EcoBoost. Do you think this is a reasonable thing to attempt? I think so given how much the Flex shares with the Taurus and Explorer. Assuming the shift cables are right length to reach the column, I think I’d just need to get the parts and hook it up. Only thing I’m worried about is getting Sport mode to work.

I have not on this car but I have done it on other cars. You have to install a power inverter and then run an extension cord and splice it into the plug.
You have to find the cigarette lighter outlet, see what color wires are going into it, then find those wires at the other end of the harness then splice them into ignition power and ground

@@depolicify man I'm in for a job trying to wire up the center console from a 2020. There's like 6 wrong harness plugs under the original police console no of which fit into any plug from the new console. Oh well. Yea I bought this w 5000 miles for 6k. Was hit in the a$$ lightly . No salvage report
Great video, Rich. I'm sure you've seen me on Explorer forum. How does that back panel come off on the center console? Does it just pry off from clips? What's the best way I can route my wires to the back part of the console for those USB ports?
Why didn't you just move the shifter to the floor instead of leaving it on the side of the steering wheel? It's actually pretty easy to wire the shifter to work.
this explorer you have has carpet so likely came with factory civilian console, removed by police garage upfitter to add the police equipment. thats why your 3 brackets are already in your vehicle.

Can you perhaps make a cubby for the shifter hole that utilizes the screws from the bottom so that you could still have chrome trim??

Is the 16-pin connector at the 1:54 mark the fire wall pass-through connection? Where can those wires be found and accessed under the hood?
Depending on how the upfitters have rearranged things, you can sometimes find them tucked behind the battery.

You can put a 2014 console in a 2016 but the top plate and back cover are different

Use relays, constant power and fused to add accessories to those wires, will give you more power.
