Haha! I did the unthinkable today. I used a TW Ezone 98 demo in a tournament match. It's an absolute beast. You get the control of a 95 with the power of a 100. I'm just amazed at the feel and agree with the ball staying on the strings longer. I know from a physics standpoint that can't be true, but it really helped direct the ball where I wanted it to go.
Great insights. Chris’s analysis sold it for me. He hit the mark on the pros and cons. Manoeuvrable and controlled making good to play angles from baseline. Perhaps a little light for stability for some more advanced players looking for softer touch and plough through, but can easily season to taste with a little lead tape in the hoop if needed.
Thanks for the review! Really interesting how subjective and personal racquets are. Most of you said it has less power than the 2020, yet the last play tester said it had more. I bet they're pretty similar!
Great video. I demoed the Yonex vcore 98 from tw today. Great stick, high launch angle. I want to try the ezone 98. How does it compare to the vcore 98?
@tenniswarehouse how would you guys compare this to the new Auxetic Speed Pro and MP in terms of maneuverability, control, and comfort/feel? Great review as always!
Update: demoed with multis. No shoulder pain. Definitely some more power on the new ezone. Played similar to the old one. Slightly stiffer but more stable. Backhand better on this edition. Great racquet but will stick to my 2019 ezone because of the similarities and has less power. My new racquet set up with the 2019 version has been a god send with control and feel. But give this new version a demo. It’s a great racquet! Only did one day of hard hitting with the new ezone 98. I’ve always had shoulder problems but last version of the ezone my shoulder was fine. After a hour I started to feel it in my shoulder with the new ezone. My current set up is a synthetic/poly with lead at the 3 and 9. I know the demo has fully poly and can be a factor. I was wondering if anyone over there felt this as well? There isn’t much difference in the flex rating
Hi! We haven't experienced any discomfort, but the full bed of polyester compared to your hybrid setup could cause discomfort. Also, your customized racquet is likely 7-10 points higher in swingweight than the 2022 stock specs, which can cause timing issues and mis-hits. All factors combined may attribute to less comfort during play. - Andrew, TW.
Hey TW! I’m in need of some help. I’m a college player looking to switch to either the ezone 98 2022 or the vcore pro 97 (310) 2021, but I can’t decide which one. I wanna stick with yonex due to their great feel and quality control. Right now I use a vcore 95 2018 with weight at 3 and 9 o’clock, but i’m looking for more forgiveness and spin out of my racquet. With the smaller head and tighter string pattern, the vc95 does wonders for hammering flat shots, and i love the precision and control the racquet provides, but outside of that, it struggles in intense match play; it’s too demanding and unforgiving. Before the vc95, I used a blade v6 16x19. The wilson feel was solid, but the blade just wasn’t head-light enough for me, even with adding weight to the handle. I wanted more control, maneuverability, and whippiness, which explains the switch to the vc95. From here, the logical choice would be to simply move up to the vcore 98 (bigger head = more forgiveness and spin), but for my game, that racquet was too powerful. I like swinging out, generating my own power, and playing aggressive, which is why I needed control. I play both singles and doubles, so I also value maneuverability and stability at net. I didn’t really consider the 2020 ezone 98 because of reviews saying it tended to be a bit of a trampoline, but since this new 2022 version is more control-oriented, it has caught my eye. Both the vcp97 and ezone 98 are 16x19 for spin and have bigger sweetspots than the vc95. Any thoughts/recommendations? I need help deciding
Both of those options will allow for a bit more forgiveness, but beyond that the differences between the two racquets will come down to feel and slight differences in power. The VCORE Pro 97 offers a bit more control, and feel for the ball, I think due to the flex and the straight beam (no taper) of the frame. The 16x19 pattern does make for easy spin, and helps with hitting a heavy ball with topspin, while also feeling very precise on slice and touch/feel shots. So it will probably be the easier transition of the two, from the VCORE 95. The EZONE 98 2022, does feel slighlty more controlled than the previous 2020 version, although it will still feel a bit more powerful overall compared to the VCORE Pro 97 (310). It packs a good amount of punch, and pretty easy spin (similar to VCORE Pro 97 for spin), but with the dampening of the frame for comfort, and thicker beam in the hoop, it does feel a bit more muted, so not quite the feel for the ball on those days when things get a little tight. So the reward with the EZONE 98 2022 is a bit easier power, but maybe a little less feel overall. If you have the chance to demo the racquets that would be ideal, but if not, hopefully some of that feedback helps. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks for replying! This feedback was very helpful. I appreciate the detail you went in to, always a pleasure hearing from the racquet wiz Troy. One last question: Which of the two racquets do you think hits most similarly to something like a Head Radical MP or Blade V8 16x19? I have shortly hit with those racquets and enjoyed them (although would probably prefer a whippier version of them), so if Yonex has something similar to offer, that would probably be the racquet I go with.
Glad to try and help. I think compared to the Blade 98, and Radical MP having offering some decent control, and feel, and slightly thinner, or closer to a straight beam, I think the VCORE Pro 97 falls more in line with those, and it has a pretty manageable swingweight for maneuverability. The EZONE 98 also is fast and maneuverable, but not quite the level of control and feel for the ball. The control is a bit better with the EZONE 98 than the VCORE 98, but not quite like the VCORE Pro 97. Troy, TW
Why don't more companies offer a plus version? I know this one does but why don't others? It's very uncommon yet I see a lot asking about it here on when it will come out
The new model has a slightly different head shape and beam thickness. The differences are subtle. The 2022 is 0.5mm thicker on the beam which makes it have a slightly more crisp feel, while the 2020 EZONE plays similar with a slightly softer feel. Unless you've hit both extensively and prefer the new EZONE, I'm sure either model will work great for your game. If you're specific on slight variances in feel, we offer both racquets for demo. I hope this helps! - Andrew, TW.
Can someone who had 2021 version of this racquet and this one tell me are there any noticable difference? I see from specs that the frame is a bit wider (by 0.5mm), but any difference when playing?
great review. i am in my 50s, just started on tennis. want a racket i can learn and grow with . is the 2021 vcore 98L or 2022 ezone 98L more foregiving .. lively and plush .. one that i can plough thro easier?
Not huge differences, but we noticed this 2022 version to feel slightly more control oriented, and a bit more plush or comfortable feeling. The 2020 feeling a bit more lively, or feels like a bit more energy return, and slightly firmer response on contact. The differences are pretty slight, and think that it should be an easy transition. Troy, TW
Hi Tw! Thinking about ordering this raquet online. But I wonder how demanding it is. As the Vcore 98 was slightly to much for me, is this more of the same? Just that I'm getting a bit better and feeling I might be ready for moving from ezone 100 upwards.....Your thoughts? Wait to playtest or do you have the answer? Thx :)
Hi! If the VCore 98 seems a bit much, I recommend trying the EZONE 100 (more power), or an EZONE 98L/100L (easier to swing and more power). I definitely would recommend giving those options a demo to see which works best for you! -Andrew, TW
This racquet does swing or maneuver fairly easily for a 305 gram frame (300 grams with the EZONE 100), and the sweet-spot feels a bit bigger for me compared to the VCORE 98. So I would think it could definitely be worth a try. However it is more control oriented compared the EZONE 100, so maybe not as easy to generate the power compared to the 100. What exactly did you feel, that made the VCORE 98 a bit too much? Was it the weight/maneuverability, or lacking of power? And do which generation of the VCORE 98 it was? The current version is mostly red with the little pop of blue color on it. Troy, TW
ok it was the newesr vcore 98 (blue streak). it felt ok, not sluggish. but maybe lacking a littke bit of powe but mostly it was the sweet spot i guess(no expert). if i didn't have good footwork it would go wrong, not as easy or forgiving for mishits i suppose. but i've sold the vcore 2 months ago and ive improved somewhat since then. so i guess i like what the reviwers said about the ezone and want a slightly different second raquet. sorry for going on. thx for answer! your doing a great job Tw!(Andrew, Troy)
This EZONE 98 has a bit thicker beam up in the hoop and is slightly stiffer overall, giving a bit easier access to power, and also swings a bit quicker. The Blade 98 16x19 v8 provides a bit more control, and feel, also a tad bit softer or more comfortable. Troy, TW
Hello… I use a 2018 pure drive. Im an intermediate to advanced level player. I enjoy the spin , easy access to power even now . But I don’t feel confident enough to hit crucial shots with the fear of over hitting. Kindly suggest a similar racket with better control. I can sacrifice a bit of power and can go up to 310g unstrung . Thank you
The Pure Strike 100 might be a good place to go -- a bit more feel and control vs. the Pure Drive! Also check out the Head Speed MP and this EZONE 98! Michelle, TW
@Spamwand, We would if we could. Unfortunately, our Playsight SmartCourt is not able to be fixed at the moment so we aren't able to provide those numbers at this time. Sorry about that! Michelle, TW
In which dimension is the beam thicker? The Yonex site mentions the thicker beam but then ha a graphic saying "thinner." Is this more of a widebody than before?
So when we measure the beam width, we use calipers, and measure the cross-section. So basically, if you were to look at the face of the racquet, seeing the string-bed, then turn the racquet sideways, so you essentially cannot see the string any more. We measure that width of the frame from that view, at the very tip, side of hoop (3 or 9 o'clock), and at the throat of the racquet. So it did widen slightly in that direction (by 0.5mm), but a bit thinner in the face direction, when looking at the string-bed head on. So almost as if the beam was compressed just a bit. Hope that helps, Troy TW
This EZONE 98 provides a bit easier access to power, and feels slightly more maneuverabl. The Blade 98 16x19 v8 offers a bit more feel for the ball, slightly more control, and spin is pretty comparable between the two. Troy, TW
This racket in stock is great but it really needs about 1.5g of led tape added to 12 O' clock position to bump up the swing weight for the serve and plough through.
Yes, I agree some added swingweight really helps with the plow and depth of shot. Although some might want a really whippy maneuverable feel, but I'm looking forward to the release of a Tour version, and a 98+. Troy, TW
That really comes down to personal preference. Not significant difference in comfort, although I will say that the 100 seems to be getting a lot of good feedback with this update, even from those who don't always play 100 headsizes. That said, sometimes one-handed players might prefer the slightly smaller headsize for a bit more feel and precision. So in the end it will come down to what feels best to you...Troy, TW
As far as a release of the Tour, check out this link to the Yonex site: www.yonex.com/07ezone. If you go to series, and scroll over to the 98 Tour it mentions when it's launching. Troy, TW
still waiting for ezone 95 16x19 @ 12 ounces - The paintjob reminds me of the RD-8 and RD-7 days of proper 16 x 19 MP from Yonex its been too long and the vcore 95 have perhaps the worst 16x20 patterns ever put on any Yonex.
Hi TW. When will you produce the full written review containing the usual scores for each shot type etc. for this ezone 98 2022 racket and for the ezone 100 2022 racket too ? Thanks.
We now have the 98 review, www.tennis-warehouse.com/learning_center/racquet_reviews/EZO98review.html, and hopefully the 100 should be done with edits and ready to go live sometime soon. Thanks for your patience. Troy, TW
Question for Troy. When I bought my DR 98 years ago the yonex grips were running large and my 1/4 felt like a 3/8. I demoed the 2022 Ezone 98 in a 1/4 and it felt really small. Are the grips now back to true size?
I am not for certain on that, however I think Yonex might use a different stock grip on the 2022 EZONE 98 compared to the old DR98, so maybe that is what your noticing? Troy, TW
Yes, pretty close specs overall. I think it will mostly come down to feel for the difference of the two, as the TFight 300 RS has a closer to a straight beam, and the EZONE 98 has a taper where it thins out quite a lot in the throat. Even though we found this version of the EZONE 98 to feel a bit more controlled than the last, I still find that it packs a little more punch than the TFight 300 RS, and a little more control or precise feel from the TFight 300 RS, or at least that is the feeling off of the racquet. Both very nice racquets. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks Troy, very helpful, I'll be sure to give this a demo. Any thoughts on how they compare on comfort? Wondering if VDM leads to slightly been vibration damping for those of us who have sensitive elbows. That's been my only issue with the Tflight so far.
@@jitenvoralia289, we found this update to feel slightly more comfortable than the previous iteration of the EZONE 98. We would likely give the edge in comfort to this EZONE 98, when comparing to the TFight 300 RS. Troy, TW
Hi, TW, how’s it compared with previous version in terms of comfort? Michelle says it’s more plush, but with thicker frame and higher stiffness rating, shouldn’t be firmer? Thanks
Yes, pretty much all of our testers agree that it feels a bit more plush compared to the previous version, closer to the DR98, but maybe not quite as soft. It's hard to say for certain as the DR98 that we have to hit with is pretty worn down, so likely feeling even more flexible and dead compared to when it was fresh out of the factory. Yes, the stiffness did change by a point compared to the 2020 model, but sometimes one point is hard to tell the difference, or maybe negligible. Sometimes when we spec racquets, you can flip the racquet over, from one side to the other, and get a slightly different reading for the number. Troy, TW
For the control, and stability we would likely go with the EZONE 98. Not sure if you have the ability to try the racquets, or demo, but maybe also consider the VCORE 98 as well. Another fun one to play with is the Babolat Pure Aero VS, although the feel on that one is a bit firmer, not quite as comfortable as the Yonex's. Troy, TW
Yes, we really like the update with this 2022 version, having a nice plush and comfortable feel. If you like the plus (extended length) version, then there will that version coming out around August 2022 according to the Yonex website. But if you want a standard length, and more maneuverability then the EZONE 98 2022 could be a good option. Troy, TW
are we expecting an update to the vcore pro hd 97? or should i switch to the new ezone 98? i used the dr98 back in the day and upgraded to the 97 because i wanted the extra plough-through. i liked both.
I had the DR98 it was amazing, hearing this is even better so got 3 of them. Any suggestions on strings? Do you need a spin friendly string such as rpm blast or hyper g to make the most of it? Or do you think something like a poly tour pro would be good to counteract the power?
@Kai S Peters, We put in strings we like and really enjoyed it with Poly Tour Pro as well as Hyper G! We also enjoyed Poly Tour Rev, which is a bit more muted and spin friendly. If we had to pick one to try first, we'd probably go with Hyper G as it is one of our favorites! Michelle, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thanks Michelle. Just put in some Poly Tour Pro honesty the nicest racket I have played with and I’ve played with a bunch. Even better and more plush than the DR 98. What’s Poly Tour Rev like in terms of softness verses Poly Tour Pro?
Is there a significant difference comparing ezone 98 to ezone 100 in terms of control? And how do these two rackets compare in returns against heavy hitters (do they have good plow through due to their low swingweight ?)
@bill fot, Significant? No. I wouldn't say there is a huge difference between the 100 and 98. But we do find the 98 to have a bit more control and is just a tad heavier and a little more feel and flexibility. Both performed well against big hitters and are a bit more explosive. Despite that lower swingweight, we found them to still offer good plow and easy depth. And in the mean time can throw some customization on to get it further dialed in if we are lacking plow, or grab the EZONE 98 Tour from the previous generation! :) Michelle, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Michelle your opinion counts a lot as you are a heavy hitter playing with the heaviest pro staff ,that even men cant handle it!I m coming from a pure aero (2016) that lacks control (i have topspin but flat shots too) and i though that new ezone 100 might give me the confidence that i miss ,in my shots in big rallies and the point and shoot ability in small targets. The problem is i cant demo it so your opinion counts double. My previous racket was dr98 that gave me stability but not the power to return heavy balls.I dont want to return in 98 head size ,so would ezone 100 be a good choise in terms of controlled power (much better than aero?)
Hi TW, I wonder how does this 7th gen compare to the ezone Xi 98 that I had before? In comparison my current 6th gen ezone 98 which definitely is a lot more plush yet the string bed always brings about this kind of "springy" feel on contact, which is never the kind of solid contact as how the Xi 98 feels like. Obviously the Xi 98 has its drawbacks for some as being too harsh and "metal pole" like especially on off centre hits, however the solid feel on contact is really second to none and makes one feel more connected to how the ball contact the string bed. The 6th gen is a good racquet but it never really offers the kind of solid feel in comparing to the Xi and makes me wonder if this latest iteration will offer a more solid contact experience. While the Xi is quite a few generations ago hopefully some of you that played the Xi gen can chip in on this, many thanks.
Hi guys, How would you compare it to the head boom pro? Looks like they are in the same boat of easy-to-play controlled-power rackets. Thanks&Regards Alex
The Boom Pro is a bit heavier overall, so it packs a bit plow through, and maybe just a bit more solid overall. This EZONE 98 2022 is a bit more maneuverable and fast feeling overall, but plays pretty stable for its swingweight. Power/control levels are pretty close between the two, although for me, I felt slightly more connected to the ball with the Boom Pro, maybe due to the slightly closer to a box shaped beam, especially in the throat. Troy, TW
How is ezone 98 compared to boom pro? I was looking for a large sweet spot 98 racket. Boom pro with the tear drop shape is intriguing. Now the ezone 98 also joins the market and it looks so good. I’m not sure which to choose.
I think it likely comes down to weight, and feel, when deciding between the two. We found this EZONE 98 to swing very fast and maneuverable, but maybe lacks some plow through, and feel that the Boom Pro offers. The Boom Pro feels a bit more solid, slightly more weight and swingweight, and a bit more feel from the thinner beam in the hoop. The sweet-spot is pretty forgiving on both racquets. So maybe it will come down to maneuverability, and whether you prefer a bit heavier racquet or not. Troy, TW
We found a bit more control, feel, and precision with the Radical MP. This EZONE 98 2022 feels a bit more powerful. Comfort is pretty close between the two, both having pretty good comfort. Troy, TW
The current VCORE 98 and 95 launched at the beginning of 2021, and most of the time Yonex racquets are around a two-year cycle, so you probably won't see an update until around 2023. Troy, TW
Some do find Yonex grips, or the pallet to feel a bit on the big side. You might be best off giong with a 4 1/4" grip with the Yonex, especially if using overgrips, but hard to say for certain if you will like that, until you get a feel for it in hand. Is there any shops around you where you can hold one in your hand, or maybe someone you know that plays with Yonex? Troy, TW
A bit more precision from the 98 headsize on this EZONE 98 2022, and slightly faster feel, although weight/swingweight are pretty close between the two. The Textreme Tour 100 (310) is a bit more forgiving with the headsize, and maybe just a bit easier access to power, although power levels are pretty close. Pretty good comfort with both, but a bit more dampened feel with the EZONE 98 (2022), and a bit crisper feel with the Tour 100 (310). Troy, TW
With the 98 headsize, it is likely best suited for like a strong intermediate to advanced player, or maybe like an NTRP 4.5 and up. So if a skilled club player falls into that range, then sure, and in the end if the player enjoys using this kind of racquet, then go for it. Maybe if the player is a little less skilled or still developing then look at the EZONE 100, or one of the lighter options. Troy, TW
The Blade 98 v8 is a bit softer, and more flexible overall, so it will be a bit more comfortable overall. The Prince Phantom racquets are also very soft and flexible. Troy, TW
The new 2022 EZONE 98 swings pretty fast for a 305 gram frame, I would say a bit quicker to maneuver than the TF40 305 16x19. The 2022 EZONE 98 also provides a bit easier power, even though it does feel slightly more controlled than its predecessor. The TF40 305 16x19 gives a bit more control, slightly more stable feel, and I can feel the ball a bit more with it compare to the EZONE 98. I would say the Boom Pro feels relatively stable, somewhat like the TF40 315, but also packs a bit more power or feels a bit more lively somewhat like the EZONE 98 2022. The feel for me was a bit more muted or dampened with the Boom Pro compared to the TF40, but maybe a bit more feel or feedback than the EZONE 98. Hope that helps, Troy TW
Hi Tennis Warehouse, I'm a current Wilson Blade V7 16x19 user (also enjoys playing with the Head Radical MP 360+) - I'm looking for a 98 sq in racquet that's move manoeuvrable with a little extra power - would this be a gd option? Are there any other options?
This could definitely be worth a try, as it pretty maneuverable and has some added power compared to the Blade 98 and Radical MP. You might also consider the Yonex VCORE 98, and Babolat Pure Aero VS (if you don't mind a bit stiffer frame), also the Prince Twistpower X97 Tour is a nice choice, but is a 97 head (very similar to the 98). Troy, TW
We enjoyed the feel of this one, and think that it feels more plush and a bit more comfortable than the previous 2020 version. The feel is a bit closer to the EZONE DR98, but maybe not quite as soft as the EZONE Ai 98. Troy, TW
I’m thinking of buying vcore ( mostly because I want a fast racquet ) even tho I am moderate player ( I don’t use much spin but I don’t play completely flat). Should I get ezone or vcore ? I am currently using pure aero.
If you don't use a whole lot of spin, or maybe like to mix between spin, and flatter shots, we think the EZONE is likely the better option. It is fairly spin friendly, but also feels a bit more controlled when hitting flatter shots, or slice, when compared to the VCORE, as the strings are a bit more spaced apart on the VCORE. It is hard to say for certain, unless you are able to demo or try them both out, but that is our feelings. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thank you Troy 🙏🏼 just one more question. Since I use pure aero I also wanted to have sort of quick racquet. Is ezone fast through the air ( I suppose it’s not as fast as aero but if it’s close aero range I think it would suit me nicely) ? Thanks again
@@markopopovic4645, Yes, the EZONE 98 and 100 are both pretty maneuverable, and have lower swingweights than the Pure Aero, so should feel maneuverable. The swingweight is the main indicator of maneuverability, so lower the number the faster feeling the racquet will be, and higher the number more plow through power, but hefty feeling. Troy, TW
Yes, according to the Yonex website, but mentions that it should be released around August, 2022. Check it out here, under "series": www.yonex.com/07ezone. Troy, TW
@Hans Sasuman, Based on what we have seen on the Yonex website, we are hoping to see them closer to August 2022, but we haven't heard anything official yet. Michelle, TW
The Speed Pro is a bit heavier, and higher swingweight, so it has a bit more solid feel, and more plow through on the ball. The 18x20 pattern provides good control for a 100 headsize, and a bit more of a direct launch angle. The EZONE 98 2022 is faster, or what we like to say has a more "whippy" feel, and although the 98 headsize gives pretty good precision, it feels a bit firmer with easy energy return; the 16x19 pattern gives a bit easier spin, and slightly higher lift or launch angle on groundstrokes. Troy, TW
As far as a release of the Tour, check out this link to the Yonex site: www.yonex.com/07ezone. If you go to series, and scroll over to the 98 Tour it mentions when it's launching. Troy, TW
@@esar1499 a pure drive Vs has a thinner beam (21/23/21) than a Tecnifibre Trebound 298 Iga (flat 23mm). The Tecnifibre is also stiffer. Yet, the Tecnifibre has more control, more precision, and slightly less power. Different layup. That said, yes, you'd think a thicker beam and a higher stiffness in the same line would equal more power.
A couple of our favortites are Solinco Hyper-G, Head Lynx Tour, and Volkl Cyclone. That said, not everyone likes, or should use a full bed of poly, so there are a lot of other good options out there as well. What type of string are you accustomed to? Do you ever get arm pain or tennis elbow? Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks Troy! My favourite strings are Solinco Hyper G / RPM Blast - 1.20G. Don't really have any arm pain / tennis elbow but I've been using Wilson Blade V7 & V8 16/19 in the last 2 years (softer racquets). Also, my partner (5'2" 100lbs developing 3.0 player), is looking into a new frame and has narrowed down to the new Ezone 100L and Ezone 98L (Ezone 98L is not available for demo). Can you compare these 2 frames?
Good to know, my favorite is Hyper-G and I go between 1.20-1.30mm depending on the racquet I am using; more open pattern I go thicker and more dense patterns I go thinner. For someone of that stature and that playing level, I would probably lean towards the EZONE 100L, with the 100 headsize giving a bit more forgiveness for the sweet-spot, and a bit easier access to power. The EZONE 98L, with the slightly smaller headsize compared to the 100L, gives a bit more control and precision. Troy, TW
This update feels slightly more controlled, or a bit less lively than the last version, so maybe a bit closer in that sense to the current EZONE 98 Tour. However the weight and plow through feels more significant with the 98 Tour, whereas this EZONE 98 feels rather fast and maneuverable in comparison. Troy, TW
We found this update to feel slightly more plush or comfortable, and a bit more of a controlled response, or you could say the previous version felt a bit more lively. Troy, TW
Yonex Poly Tour Pro, it comes in a few different colors including yellow. Check it out here: www.tennis-warehouse.com/SearchResults/?searchtext=polytour%20pro&opt_perpage=20&opt_sort=relevance&opt_page=1. Troy, TW
Hey Great review! need advice though: Im thinking of switching from a technifibre tfight 300 rs to either this or the yonex vcore 98 2021. Im potentially switching because i feel like the tfight is still a bit too stiff for me (causing shoulder issues) Which do you think has better power and control, but still relatively shoulder or arm friendly? or do you recommend i wait for the clash v2?
I think of the two Yonex 98's you will find a bit more comfort, or plush feel from the EZONE 98 2022, and a bit better blend of control/power. I know that the EZONE is advertised for its power, but I find that when going for a big groundstroke, and flattening out the ball, I get a little more connection to the ball and control. The VCORE 98 has a nice feel, and very easy topspin and launch angle, but I think because the string spacing is pretty open it is a little harder to control on flatter strokes. Troy, TW
In general, the EZONE line provides easier power than the VCORE Pro line. So if you were to compare the EZONE 100 to VCORE Pro 100, the EZONE has easier power. The EZONE 98 when compared to the VCORE Pro 100, the power level is pretty close, but maybe a bit more energy return from the EZONE 98, or a bit livelier feel to it. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thanks ! The VcorePro100 is more forgiven because 100 inch ? Or the Ezone98 more forgivven because bigger beam 25cm higher ? I am hesiting between those 2 models for my game
What I meant by forgiving was sweet-spot size, or overall surface area for striking the ball, so in that case maybe a bit more with the VCORE Pro 100. The main differences come down to the feel when contacting the ball, and is something that you can't really experience until you hit with the racquets or test them out. Troy, TW
I switched from a Head Prestige MP 98, 20x18 to a Wilson Ultra Tour 98 20x18 but found less spin so want to recapture that again. Currently looking at this Yonex and a Head Extreme Tour. Any words of wisdom TW? I like to really rip the ball on my FH for spin and have a big serve but I hate losing control with my high swing speed so string tight and don't want an overpowered racquet. Definitely miss the spin especially from my kick and slice serves that my Prestige MP gave me over the Ultra Tour. Which of those 2 racquets would suit me better?
Hello TW. Looking to explore a change from 3+ year use of VCore 98 305 to 7th Generation EZone 98 305. How would you describe any significant differences and/or similarities between the two rackets for a 11/12 UTR player? What to look for if considering a change from VCore to EZone? Thank you.
The transition between the two racquets should be somewhat easy, as they aren't hugely different in specs, although not sure if you customize them up anyways. That said, I have quite a bit experience going back and forth between the two racquets, but in the extended versions, so EZONE 98+ and VCORE 98+. I notice a slight difference in spin and launch angle, with the spacing of the strings on the VCORE 98 being a bit more spaced apart giving a bit easier access to spin, and a little easier lift or launch angle from the baseline. The EZONE 98 is also decently spin friendly, but the spacing of the strings seems to be just a bit closer, which for me gave me a little more confidence when needing to flatten out my shots, and a little more connection to the ball when going for the slice. Also, just a slight difference when playing them in stock form, when it came to stability, I find the EZONE 98 to feel a bit more stable on volleys, especially if I contact slightly outside the sweet-spot. The VCORE 98 feels nice and has good pop when volleying and hitting right in the sweet-spot, but the power and feel drops off quite a bit if I miss the sweet-spot slightly. Hope that helps somewhat, Troy TW
@@tenniswarehouse:: Troy, Thank you for the quick reply and helpful comments. I will let you know my feedback once I spend a little time on court with a new EZONE 98 305 later this week. Please say hello to Mark Boone for me. Thanks again!
This one has a fairly plush and comfortable feel to it, so we find it a bit closer to the DR98 than the last version. Not quite as soft as the DR98 or Ai 98 but a good feel overall. Troy, TW
@mosse185, There are some other options in this family of racquets that might be better suited for someone just getting the mechanics down -- check out the EZONE 98L for a lighter version of this racquet that would be a good first place to start and with time, the player can transition into the heavier EZONE 98! Hope that helps! Michelle, TW
A little easier to maneuver with this racquet compared to Blade 98 v9, and this EZONE 98 also provides easier access to power. Blade 98 v9 gives a bit more control and feel. Troy, TW
Greetings, I currently play with Pro staff v13. Love everything about it except the power. I even tried adding 3g at 12 o clock still the power felt low. Tried the ezone 98 2020. Loved the power but is unstable in volleys. Do you recommend the ezone 98 2020 tour or ezone 98 2022 or adding some weight to 3 and 9 o clock to ezone 98 2020?
Have you tried a more powerful string to unlock some of the power of your Pro Staff? The EZONEs will offer more raw power vs. the Pro Staff and we think the new one plays fairly stable. If you are looking for more power, the EZONE would be a good way to go - the 2022 EZONE 98 has a nice blend of controllable power so that might be the best bet and easiest transition! Michelle, TW
Since you asked about comparing spin, I would assume you are using the Blade 98 (16x19) v7? This one feels a bit more powerful, slightly firmer, but still pretty comfortable. Spin is pretty similar between the two, maybe a bit easier with this EZONE 98, and sweet-spot is comparable, but maybe a bit bigger on this one. The Blade 98 16x19 v7 has slightly more comfort, and a bit more feel for the ball with its thinner, and flat beam in the hoop of the racquet. It also has a bit more plow and swingweight, whereas this EZONE 98 maneuvers a bit quicker. Troy, TW
We noticed a slightly more flexible feel, and a bit more control coming from the Blade 98 16x19 v8. This EZONE 98 2022 is a bit stiffer, but still pretty comfortable from the dampening technologies, and although we found it a bit more controlled than the 2020 version, it packs a bit easier power than the Blade 98 16x19 v8. Troy, TW
We actually found this one to feel a bit more plush and comfortable than the last version, getting a bit closer to the feel of the EZONE DR98. Troy, TW
I think what our testers are feeling is more control coming from perhaps better torsional stability from the thicker beams as the RA is only one point off on average so the thicker beam is not making the racquet stiffer for more power. I found better power from the previous version. With this one I had better control and had to swing faster to match the pace/depth I got from the previous version. Hope that helps explain the differences. Cheers, Chris, TW.
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks! Did you find that it still had a stiff upper hoop? The previous version had something in its construction that really hurt my forearm, maybe the throat was to weak to handle the thicker upper hoop?
@@tenniswarehouse So have they increased the twist weight if you're saying it has better torsional stability? If that's the case, it must have an even stiffer hoop than the outgoing version which is total deal breaker for me as well as my elbow.
You should give it a demo to see how it feels for you. I prefer the response of this update and found a more pleasing response when my contact point drifted higher up in the hoop. Cheers, Chris, TW.
Many of us mentioned more control and more feel than the last version rather than more power, so not sure if we all thought it had more power this go around! TW Staff
Nope. DR has more "feel", is heavier (310g), is thinner (at least its throat) and has a lower RA. DR98 seems to remain an "unicorn", just like that AeroPro Drive from 2004.
Please lets get Andy to review this racquet. Want to see how this compares to his DR98
Wasn’t expecting this one so soon! Sounds closer to the DR 98, which is great for me!
DR obsessed! Wtf
It’s really nice
Demoed these from tw, ordered two of them after ninety minutes of play. Wow stick
Troy, TW
Now I am excited to play test this and make a comparison between the vcore pro 97
Hi, how would you then compare the two of them?
Debe ser buena pero yo me quedo con la yonex vi cort la de este año encordado 18 por 20 ya que con esa raqueta a mejorado mi juego mucho
Hi TW, do you know when will the Tour be available ? When exactly in August 2022?
I want to know as well. Praying it’s more HL than the last one
Why don't more companies offer a plus version? I know this one does but why don't others? It's very uncommon yet I see a lot asking about it here on when it will come out
How does this compare to the previous 2020 model. I can get the 2020 for $100 cheaper. Is it worth getting the new ezone?
Have you tried the tour version of the 2022? How do you find it?
Not yet, but stay tuned!
great review. i am in my 50s, just started on tennis. want a racket i can learn and grow with . is the 2021 vcore 98L or 2022 ezone 98L more foregiving .. lively and plush .. one that i can plough thro easier?
We love the EZONES and think that might be the way to go, but you can't go wrong with either of those!
Michelle, TW
How much different it is from the 2020 version ? If different, what are the differences and are they significant enough for a change ?
Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thx.yes maybe a playtest is best.
ok it was the newesr vcore 98 (blue streak). it felt ok, not sluggish. but maybe lacking a littke bit of powe but mostly it was the sweet spot i guess(no expert). if i didn't have good footwork it would go wrong, not as easy or forgiving for mishits i suppose. but i've sold the vcore 2 months ago and ive improved somewhat since then. so i guess i like what the reviwers said about the ezone and want a slightly different second raquet. sorry for going on. thx for answer! your doing a great job Tw!(Andrew, Troy)
Great review! How would you compare this to the Blade 98 V8 16x19?

@@tenniswarehouse sorry to hear that Michelle. Hope it gets fixed soon. Merry Christmas
How would you compare it to the Blade 98 V8 16/19 in terms of power, feel, spin and maneuverability?
Thanks
Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse when in August will that be? And what about the tour? Did you test it? Is it comfortable and stable?
Hi, 98 or 100 for doubles(in stock form)? One handed backhand. Is there a significant difference in terms of arm comfort? Demo is not available.
Will there be a tour version of this as well?
As far as a release of the Tour, check out this link to the Yonex site: www.yonex.com/07ezone. If you go to series, and scroll over to the 98 Tour it mentions when it's launching. Troy, TW
August 2022
still waiting for ezone 95 16x19 @ 12 ounces - The paintjob reminds me of the RD-8 and RD-7 days of proper 16 x 19 MP from Yonex its been too long and the vcore 95 have perhaps the worst 16x20 patterns ever put on any Yonex.
Troy, TW
Thanks for the review. How does this compare to the TFlight 300 RS as the specs looks very close. Thanks
Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thanks, Troy
I play with Head Extreme MP Graphene 360. Love its spin, but feeling that I need more control and stability. What do you think about ezone 98 or 100?
For the control, and stability we would likely go with the EZONE 98. Not sure if you have the ability to try the racquets, or demo, but maybe also consider the VCORE 98 as well. Another fun one to play with is the Babolat Pure Aero VS, although the feel on that one is a bit firmer, not quite as comfortable as the Yonex's. Troy, TW
Hi guys, big fan here from Chile 🇨🇱, I want to switch my old Ezone DR98 +. This stick would be a good option? Regards!
Here is the update to the VCORE Pro 97HD: VCORE Pro 97D, www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpage-320HD7.html. Troy, TW
Did you switch to the ezone
I had the DR98 it was amazing, hearing this is even better so got 3 of them. Any suggestions on strings? Do you need a spin friendly string such as rpm blast or hyper g to make the most of it? Or do you think something like a poly tour pro would be good to counteract the power?
@Kai S Peters,
We put in strings we like and really enjoyed it with Poly Tour Pro as well as Hyper G!
@bill fot,
Significant? :)
Michelle, TW
How's this racket for a player with a one handed backhand?
Did you try the latest 2022 ezone 98. I'm a user of xi 98 very strong sensitive but nothing comes close
Hi guys,
How would you compare it to the head boom pro? Looks like they are in the same boat of easy-to-play controlled-power rackets.
Thanks&Regards
Alex
The Boom Pro is a bit heavier overall, so it packs a bit plow through, and maybe just a bit more solid overall. This EZONE 98 2022 is a bit more maneuverable and fast feeling overall, but plays pretty stable for its swingweight. Power/control levels are pretty close between the two, although for me, I felt slightly more connected to the ball with the Boom Pro, maybe due to the slightly closer to a box shaped beam, especially in the throat. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks Troy 👍
Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thank you. I'll likely go with the Boom Pro.
How would you compare this one to the Head Radical MP 2021, especially with comfort and control?
We found a bit more control, feel, and precision with the Radical MP. This EZONE 98 2022 feels a bit more powerful. Comfort is pretty close between the two, both having pretty good comfort. Troy, TW

Hoping for a Vcore 98/95 2022 review coming soon!
The current VCORE 98 and 95 launched at the beginning of 2021, and most of the time Yonex racquets are around a two-year cycle, so you probably won't see an update until around 2023. Troy, TW
Is there a name for Mark's grip? Is it the Bermuda grip or something?
Do Yonex grip sizes run larger? I play with Head Radical MP 2021 grip size 4 3/8. Should I order this racquet in 4 1/4 or 4 3/8?
Some do find Yonex grips, or the pallet to feel a bit on the big side. You might be best off giong with a 4 1/4" grip with the Yonex, especially if using overgrips, but hard to say for certain if you will like that, until you get a feel for it in hand. Is there any shops around you where you can hold one in your hand, or maybe someone you know that plays with Yonex? Troy, TW
Cool! How does this compare to the Prince Textreme Tour 100? Thanks!
Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thanks Troy! Sounds like both are great sticks :).
Hello TW! Which one feels more maneuverable between 98 and 100? Thanks!
Pretty similar, both pretty maneuverable, but maybe a bit easier to maneuver with the 100, as it is roughly 5 grams lighter overall. Troy, TW
I have both, the 98 is WAY more maneuverable and seems lighter
is there going to be a 98 plus of this version? Do you guys know when its coming the new Ezone 98 plus version? thx!
According to Yonex's website the plus version is coming, hopefully in August 2022. www.yonex.com/ezone-98-plus-07ez98p. Troy, TW
My main question is it’s stability vs the Bc ore 98 from last year? The lighter swingweight has me a bit nervous about it
We found it to feel just as stable, likely since the beam is slightly thicker. Troy, TW
Would you recommend it for some good skilled club level players ?
With the 98 headsize, it is likely best suited for like a strong intermediate to advanced player, or maybe like an NTRP 4.5 and up. So if a skilled club player falls into that range, then sure, and in the end if the player enjoys using this kind of racquet, then go for it. Maybe if the player is a little less skilled or still developing then look at the EZONE 100, or one of the lighter options. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thank you i struggle with power on my serve so maybe i should go with ezone 100.
@@tennisrijans, the EZONE 100 is a pretty well rounded racquet, and a great choice, so hard to go wrong with that one. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thank you for your guidance. I always trust TW experts when it comes about rackets recommendations.
How does it compare to Wilson blade 98 v8 16 x19? I am one handed back hand player and got wrist pain problem.Which suits me more?
The Blade 98 v8 is a bit softer, and more flexible overall, so it will be a bit more comfortable overall. The Prince Phantom racquets are also very soft and flexible. Troy, TW
Hi TW team,
How does this Ezone compared to the new TF40 16x19 models and the Boom series?
Thanks.
Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks Troy!
How would you compare the 2022 update to the AI 98 from way back when?
Troy, TW
any extended length ezone 98 coming out as well?
Yes, according to the Yonex website, but mentions that it should be released around August, 2022. Check it out here, under "series": www.yonex.com/07ezone. Troy, TW
How would you compare this to pure aero vs?
Have been playing with the old wilson pro staff 85 since it came out and it is too heavy for me. I think it's time for a change to yonex.
is a 98 plus version set to come out anytime soon?
@Hans Sasuman,
Based on what we have seen on the Yonex website, we are hoping to see them closer to August 2022, but we haven't heard anything official yet.
Michelle, TW
How does this compare to the head speed pro?
The Speed Pro is a bit heavier, and higher swingweight, so it has a bit more solid feel, and more plow through on the ball. The 18x20 pattern provides good control for a 100 headsize, and a bit more of a direct launch angle. The EZONE 98 2022 is faster, or what we like to say has a more "whippy" feel, and although the 98 headsize gives pretty good precision, it feels a bit firmer with easy energy return; the 16x19 pattern gives a bit easier spin, and slightly higher lift or launch angle on groundstrokes. Troy, TW
Thicker beam, a bit stiffer but more control...? Wow. Okay, how about the tour? Will that one have a new version this upcoming year?
As far as a release of the Tour, check out this link to the Yonex site: www.yonex.com/07ezone. If you go to series, and scroll over to the 98 Tour it mentions when it's launching. Troy, TW
Yeah , i mean thicker beam and a bit stiffer doesnt equal to less powerful to me!
@@esar1499 Technology bro, use brain!
@@クリームイカ Rofl you dont even know what you are talking about
@@esar1499 a pure drive Vs has a thinner beam (21/23/21) than a Tecnifibre Trebound 298 Iga (flat 23mm). The Tecnifibre is also stiffer. Yet, the Tecnifibre has more control, more precision, and slightly less power. Different layup.
That said, yes, you'd think a thicker beam and a higher stiffness in the same line would equal more power.
Hi! What are some strings that you recommend (aside from Polytour pro)? Thank you!
Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse Thanks Troy & TW - just ordered the Ezone 100L!

Do you remember those people from the 1980s pop videos who used to spray their hair 3 different colors? This racquet's paint job looks like that....
How does this compare to the Tour edition?
This update feels slightly more controlled, or a bit less lively than the last version, so maybe a bit closer in that sense to the current EZONE 98 Tour. However the weight and plow through feels more significant with the 98 Tour, whereas this EZONE 98 feels rather fast and maneuverable in comparison. Troy, TW
I like the color scheme.
How does this compare to last year's vcore 98?
We found this update to feel slightly more plush or comfortable, and a bit more of a controlled response, or you could say the previous version felt a bit more lively. Troy, TW
what is yellow string? razor code? RPM BLAST?
Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse thank you troy, ur awesome :)
Will Yonex release the Naomi Osaka edition in white and gold?
We haven't heard anything about special cosmetics for Naomi, but we have seen her swinging this paint job!

Ezone98 more powerful or more control than the VCorePro100 ?
Troy, TW
Wow, already!
Thanks again!
comparison with DR98?
This one has a fairly plush and comfortable feel to it, so we find it a bit closer to the DR98 than the last version. Not quite as soft as the DR98 or Ai 98 but a good feel overall. Troy, TW
Is this racket ok for beginner?
@mosse185,
There are some other options in this family of racquets that might be better suited for someone just getting the mechanics down -- check out the EZONE 98L for a lighter version of this racquet that would be a good first place to start and with time, the player can transition into the heavier EZONE 98! Hope that helps!
Michelle, TW
How compare this with blade v9 98?? Thanks
A little easier to maneuver with this racquet compared to Blade 98 v9, and this EZONE 98 also provides easier access to power. Blade 98 v9 gives a bit more control and feel. Troy, TW
I use ezones and vcores and love everything save the PRICE about them. good grief in the pocketbook.
Greetings,
I currently play with Pro staff v13.

Hi. I play with the blade 98 v7, could you compare this two especially in terms of feel, ball Pocketing, spin and forgiveness ?
Troy, TW
I am sold....
How does this compare to the blade 98 16x19 v8? and which one do you all prefer? Thanks!
Troy, TW
It seems to be stiffer too, so has it less arm comfort?
We actually found this one to feel a bit more plush and comfortable than the last version, getting a bit closer to the feel of the EZONE DR98. Troy, TW
@@tenniswarehouse cool, thank you Troy!
A bit thicker beam but more control? Interesting!
This version has a softer and more forgiving response up towards the tip. Cheers, Chris, TW
You should give it a demo to see how it feels for you. I prefer the response of this update and found a more pleasing response when my contact point drifted higher up in the hoop. Cheers, Chris, TW.
