Yo this helped me out a lot. It just broke one me and I wasn't sure what I was up against. Also a lot of people recommend changing this flange every time you do timming belt job because it's prone to cracking and breaking after 120k miles of heat cycles and cooling off.
I'm happy I was able to help you out, thanks for watching!. Yea, it's definitely a common failure part. And I also recommend to replace it before it fails.
Hey man I appreciate the video, I work in a shop and I’ve never done one of these and Audi doesn’t have the replacement procedure in the service manual so this helped me a lot!
I wish I had come across this sooner. I just finished doing mine and had to learn through trial and error some things you mentioned. Also, my ‘07 has stainless t-30 bolts holding the coolant flange onto the engine instead of the triple square bolts so I guess they differ on some or maybe a previous mechanic switched them? I have the same design light too, got mine from harbor freight and it was very helpful for this job. It puts out a really good amount of light and being able to articulate it helps get the light where I needed it. I also replaced the valve cover gasket, cam chain cover gasket, and vacuum pump o-rings. To anyone reading this that changes the cam chain cover gasket, be sure to use silicone sealant on it or it will leak. I used reinzosil part number D176404A2 from ecstuning and it is working well, no leaks.
Yea, this replacement can be a real pain. I've never seen stainless steel bolts on that part before. Yea, the slim light is a game changer, I have two of them. Sometimes I have one one the charger while using the other.
Great video! I have found that putting a little silicone grease on your fittings helps the hoses go back on much easier and the o-rings will seat and seal better. Those bit ratchets are fantastic for these cars! Most German manufacturers have you drop the power train to do a lot of different jobs... 🙄
Damn you make good videos. Please take an entire Audi A4 B7 engine apart so we can fix all issues with this car. But I’ll settle for a full motor mount replacement video if you have the time.
This job isn’t as bad as you might be expecting. Just make sure you have a mini ratchet to get into the tight space. It’s also a good idea to buy an extra coolant flange bolt and lay down a shop towel underneath the coolant flange in case you drop one. Have a plan in place and take your time with it. You’ll feel great when the job is done.
I did this without taking off the air pump as I have rather small hands.. I think the hardest part is lining up for the bolts in back and taking off the hose to be able to manipulate it to come out. Otherwise this was awesome guide
Crafty, I just want to add 2qtsto my a4 b7...I lost some when I was replacing my radiator..coolant line plugwas not in...big mess ...can you walk me thru adding 2 qts
Get some stuff called Magic Lube, it is in a white tube with blue lid and blue lettering. It’s so nice and sticky and is perfect for helping any o rings from leaking.
Where can I find the thermostat located behind the engine? I didn't know where it was. I changed the alternator side main thermostat. The one behind the engine was left, I didn't know where it was audi 2.0 tdi 8k2 cjcb engine
Had a complete leak. The dealer tech replaced only the two long hoses and pressured tested it. All good. They didn't replace the flange itself. I am somewhat bummed out about it because I will be constantly worrying now. Car is 2008 with 89K
One of my triple square bolts feels stripped. I turn it and it feels like my bit is skipping. I’m stressed the f out. Whats the best way to go about this.
Clearest explanation of this project I have found online. Very good.
Much respect!

Great video! I love the fact that you use another motor to show clearly how everything is back behind the motor
much respect! yea, it's a tight space to work with. I figured that would be the most effective way to demonstrate the replacement.

I did the same exact thing last year + the cooling system and both timing and drive belt, water pump and thermostat
Thank you for this video! Helped me with my flange/vacuum pump/heater hose replacement!
I'm happy you found this video helpful, thanks for watching!

wow im just running into this problem and this is the first video i can find, THANK YOU!
I'm happy you found this video! Now, you can take on this project without hesitation.

My man 👍 gonna need to do this job eventually
Yea, it can be a pain to replace, but with the right tools and patience you'll be good 👍🏽

yooo thx for the video bro i remember asking u 2 weeks ago
Yea, definitely! I finally got the chance to do it.
Very informative, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video man! Thanks
Much respect, thanks for watching!
Is it the same procedure for a 3.0 motor? I have a 05 Audi A4 3.0
Great video. Great job! Tks.
Thanks for watching!
Great video 👍
Much respect 👍🏽
Did u have to use a thicker/stubby t30 inorder to remove the bigger bolt that holds the vaccum pump in place
I did this without taking off the air pump as I have rather small hands.. I think the hardest part is lining up for the bolts in back and taking off the hose to be able to manipulate it to come out. Otherwise this was awesome guide
Much respect! Yea, I usually take the pump off, my hands won't fit. Lol
Engineers were sleeping when they designed this engine
That or massive amounts of lsd. I'm dreading this repair
Crafty, I just want to add 2qtsto my a4 b7...I lost some when I was replacing my radiator..coolant line plugwas not in...big mess ...can you walk me thru adding 2 qts
Having problem putting the lower radiator hose on,it's right there can't get the clamp to go in,any suggestions
Great video
Much respect 🙏
this also referred as the water outlet?
Need to do this, found a aluminum replacement... that good or bad?
Good
Got the triple Square removal tool
What did you use to lube the O-ring for the coolant flange
You can use silicon based lubricant
Get some stuff called Magic Lube, it is in a white tube with blue lid and blue lettering. It’s so nice and sticky and is perfect for helping any o rings from leaking.
Super !!! Thank you so much 💪👍💯
Respect! 👍🏽
Is this flange easier to access from underneath the car?
Nah, gotta be from the top.
Hello I have a question please is there a thermostat inside the flange.
No, the thermostat is located below the intake manifold.
Where can I find the thermostat located behind the engine? I didn't know where it was. I changed the alternator side main thermostat. The one behind the engine was left, I didn't know where it was audi 2.0 tdi 8k2 cjcb engine
I think there is a coolant temp sensor inside the flange
Had a complete leak. The dealer tech replaced only the two long hoses and pressured tested it. All good. They didn't replace the flange itself. I am somewhat bummed out about it because I will be constantly worrying now. Car is 2008 with 89K
My audi also leaks badly at the flange itself and it recently hit 90k, id say keep an eye out on that flange for build up for coolant residue
Mine just try Reddit dry-rotted and snapped what is the part number to order that what is it exactly called because I cannot find it
One of my triple square bolts feels stripped. I turn it and it feels like my bit is skipping. I’m stressed the f out. Whats the best way to go about this.
sheesh. Try using a screw extractor.
Any ideas why my car did start no more did this and don’t wanna start now
That should not cause the car to not start. That issue is unrelated.
A where you come from bredda ? Accent sound like mine.
Yea, I'm a yaadie. Lol
My Audi 05 A4 2.0 is leaking water back in the engine any idea??
What do you mean by back in the engine?
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds idk how to explain it but is leaking all the coolant under the engine
That link to Amazon is a hex key set not a torx one
What is normal for this job? Dealership wants 2k
thank you...but You should put a little oil or grease on the orange
I'm not sure what you mean?
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds
on temperature sensor orange
Oh, the o-ring. Yea, some people do and some people don't.
@@CraftyWorkshopBuilds
I do..thank you dear
I just put a new vacuum pump on yesterday and today I'm leaking coolant from the flange 😂
It is not hard. 2 bolts. You need a mirrow
