  • Not everything is so easy with source, for stars to appear good using textures is a bad idea and rotation basically requires animation since the in-built func_rotate will eventually crap out.
    In this video the entire skybox (mars, the stars) are one model. Each star is four triangles, which look circular at such an extreme distance.

    Would it save on render load if you replaced each simple tetrahedrons with a single, suspended, flat-ass polygon? If their rotation is static, they might even look like they're twinkling, when they're moving past the camera POV at 90 degrees.

      Potentially, but I was in a hurry to test it. despite how it looks each of the 9000 stars has an identical orientation.

      @@KalimandoMalivol It looks really rad, as is, especially with the right amount of motion blur.
      Makes me want a deathmatch game that applies accumulative disorienting effects to a player who is on a kill-streak, to act as a little bit of difficulty rubberbanding.
